Grim Like Me

Rate this book
Cormack Grimlock thought he was in for a day of meetings, and then his wife sprung something new on him: Take Your Daughter to Work Day. And, because he’s a Grimlock and his daughter is spoiled, that means taking Aisling and her best friend Jerry to work with him.

Though he’s not generally in the field, a work illness forces Cormack out on a case … and he must take Aisling and Jerry with him. Of course, since Cormack is a reaper, that means he’s visiting the dead. Unfortunately he has to take his young charges along for the ride.

What should have been an easy collection turns into something more for Cormack when his soul runs away and he’s left to solve the murder of an unlikable man with nothing but two eight-year-olds to help him. He also has to do it without his wife finding out what he’s up to because he has no intention of getting in trouble himself.

It’s one long day for the terrible trio, and it’s going to take everyone working together to ensure things turn out exactly how they should.

What a fun read!

Grim Like Me by Amanda M. Lee was a delightful book about a family that is grim reapers. It's Take Your Daughter to Work Day and with four older boys and just one 8 year old girl, the mom tells the dad he has the girl today. Then the dad gets a call to pick up a soul, a Mayor that has been murdered. Also with the father and daughter is the girls best friend, a boy named Jerry that is gay. Jerry knows about the family business but can't see spirits like the family can. It is a funny, heartwarming, never dull story that kept me interested all the way through the short tale. Loved it!

Very funny 😂

I plan to read this series, and this one when the heroine was only 8 years old!
She already had a strong mind and put her daddy in the trouble most of the time 😜😳.

4 Stars... Eight year old, Aisling and Jerry, get to spend what is supposed to be a quiet day at the office with Cormack Grimlock… Of course, the day turns anything but quiet when they are sent out on a reaper job that has a few kinks in it... As with Amanda Lee's style, amongst the humor there is heart and this one has some very endearing moments with Aisling and her father that were sweet and touching... I love that Amanda Lee's writing can bring both the laughter and some tears of joy... Another fun read in this fabulous series:)

From shorts are going to be my new favorite....

Amanda M Lee us at the top of her game with the Grimlock family shorts. Humor, snark, adventure, and the reapers. What more could you ask for? A great start to a new series of shirts. Can't wait for the next one

I'm good with the snark

I've read all the Grim novels and the Wicked witches of the Midwest as well. At first I was having trouble because, although I liked the story line and the characters, the family dynamics gave me a headache, until I tried viewing the interaction as the guests of the Overlook did --as dinner theater. From that point of view it was much more entertaining and less stressful. Because I like the characters, it's hard not to get emotionally caught up in the stories. It's easier just being entertained. However, the interaction of family members is very insightful. Although I've raised my family, I can understand through Ms. Lee's writing how to advise someone who might come to me for advise.I hope to never have to deal with families like those she has created.

A look back in time

Awesome. If like me you are a fan of the Reaper books then you are I for a real treat. This is a look back into when the children were much younger and centre on one particular day. Take Your Daughter to Work. He didn't want to take his daughter to work (along with her best friend) but got shamed into it by his wife. Even as a child, Aisling is mouthy, opinionated and independent. Throw in a last minute reaping job, a murdered mayor, his collection of sex toys and his errant soul. The lessons learned that day are funny, poignant and will stand them I good stead for the future. A wonderful read that will have you chuckling in places and remembering your own children. Plus the young Aisling and Jerry are so believable it's freaky.

Important Lessons!

I don’t know what to say - I love love love this series. This short goes back in time 20 years ago when Cormack Grim takes 8 yr old Aisling & her best friend Jerry to the his office on Take Your Daughter to Work Day. Somehow the day is definitely not what Cormack expected. While I had quite a few laugh out loud moments, as 8 yr Aisling & Jerry are just so precocious & adorable, there were quite a few heartwarming moments too. It was good to get a small glimpse of Mom Lily before she turned. My only complaint with this book just like Amanda M Lee’s other books - they are over too soon!!

A look back in time

I've read the entire Grimlock series and was thrilled to find a new book out. It was wonderful reading about Aislings first collection on take your daughter to work day. A cute book that allows us to picture Aisling and Jerry as young children and perhaps understand why Aisling talks to her souls before she collects them. After all its what happened on her first experience in collecting a soul. I think everyone who reads this will wish their fathers gained the insight of what his daughter wanted or rather needed from him. Please keep the writing coming. Can't wait for the next book.

Aisling and Jerry as kids... what could be more fun?

Go back in Grimlock time and spend the day with Aisling and Jerry on “take your daughter to work day.... Mr. Grimlock thinks he will have an easy day with both kids just coloring in the office going for Mexican lunch etc.… But things are never how you would expect especially when you’re a reaper and things get out of hand pretty quickly but as the day progresses and you see Aisling as a child you also get to see what she really wanted for the day.

Enjoy a fun laugh out loud adventure with Mr. Grimlock, 8 year olds Aisling and Jerry.

I'm reading this short story in The Grimlock Aisling Grimlock grim reaper series which I absolutely love. I'm not even on page 20 and I'm about to pee my pants laughing so hard. This story goes back to when Aisling was 9. Her best friend is enjoying a day with Aisling. It's take your daughter to work day and Aisling had to bring Jerry. Jerry will grow up to be gay and he is absolutely my favorite character. He's polite. Cares about how he looks, hates getting dirty, and he sometimes throws theatrical fits when you least expect them. Jerry is being a sweetheart as usual and tells Aisling to "be nice to her dad, that they are lucky they aren't at school." So Mr. Grimlock tells Jerry "thank you for your help and says you can have 2 desserts at lunch." Jerry says "Thank you sir, I'd love that but I shouldn't have two because then I won't look good during swimsuit season." Dying!! I'm dead. I love all of these characters!! I hope she never stops writing for this series. As always make sure you read them in order and don't forget about crossovers and shorts. I can't imagine anyone not loving this series!

Father -daughter day done right, sort of....

I love that this is from McCormick's POV. I also love his relationship with Aisling and Jerry. He is such a good father. What started out as a fairly simple job, turned into chaos. Nothing with Aisling is ever simple. Ever. Between getting called out on a job, an errant ghost, to train stations and the zoo, he came through it a better father and a closer bond with the kids. Some oh my halloween moments and some laugh out loud moments, definitely recommends book.

Cormack Grimlock is a man use to getting things done and having people do as they are told. Yet, a day spent with Aisling and Jerry is an eye opener and many lessons learned for Cormack. Take your daughter to work takes on new meaning, when Aisling and Jerry goes to work with Cormack. Instead of doing office work, Cormack has a soul to collect, a soul he loses and must find. While keeping Aisling and Jerry entertained and out of trouble. It is an amusing short story, with lessons taught and a new perspective of Cormack.

Aw such a sweet story!!

This book was a short grimlock story.
It centres on aisleen and cormac's father-daughter relationship. I loved their interactions. It was so sweet.
It was lovely to read about aisleen as a child. She was funny and snarky as a child too.
It was take your daughter to work day at the reaper. Cormac decides to take aisleen and jerry to the office but circumstances change and he has to take the kids to catch a soul. Matters worsen when the departed soul refuses to leave and escapes.
Cormac and the kids spend the day trying to capture him.
Loved it.

Grimlock kids

I admit I don't find the Grimlocks as entertaining in childhood. Aisling was a mouthy child and I am not fond of mouthy children. However, it is a sweet story in the long run with an important lesson for every parent. Mr. Grimlock learns that children need your time more than anything else you can give, and finds spending a day with his daughter to be more fun and important than he ever dreamed.

Dad's turn

Cormac Grimlock learns several valuable lessons when his wife informs him he's the lucky parent in 'Take Your Daughter to Work Day'. With Aisling and her best bud, Jerry, in tow, Cormac plans a quiet day in the office. An emergency sends the reaper & 8 year old daughter with Jerry to find the soul of an evil dead man who refuses to be absorbed. Along the way, Cormac finds he has more in common with Aisling than he thought.

A grimlock family short

This book was great. I did not know what a grim did and when I found out I thought I would not like this book. Boy was I wrong. I loved the story with father and daughter and her best friend. I have enjoyed every one of her books and I highly recommend all her books to everyone who love paranormal stories. Diana Romano

Loved it

It was adorable. I love the short stories that are written from these series. They always give you a bit of history and backstory to the main stories. You cannot go wrong with any of the stories by this author. Aisline and Jerry as kids is just too adorable. To see them interacting at the age of eight with her father on a job is just too cute to miss.

Delightful

Do you never have that moment where you adore a series of characters and you always wondered who they were as children? This is that book. It is filled with whimsy and love with still a hint of snark and a twist of reality to find humour.

Wonderful read, can stand alone but even better if you know the characters.

Thank you to the author, it was a gift to read.

Dad Takes Daughter to Work

Love this series. Hilarious, sarcastic, family drama and souls needing to be reaped. This shirt story is great because it is a story 20 years in the past when Aisling and Jerry are kids and Dad intrudes them to future job. Loved this story. Couldn't put it down. Please read.

This short story made me smile

Want to read a book and have a huge smile on your face while reading? Then this short story about the Grimlock's will do just that and probably having you laughing out loud too. Aisling and Jerry are just too adorable when they were younger. Aisling's dad really shows how much he loves his kiddos and being a dad. Loved this short story.

Grim like me

Oh my gosh! This was horrible! I normally love these books, but I could barely get through this one. So much repeating of the fact that she is manipulative towards her father and thumbs like that. We get it, every sentence doesn’t have to remind us. I hope the next full length novel is not like this.

Different perspective

I really enjoyed reading about younger Aisling and her relationship with her dad. It is nice to know Aisling wrapped her dad around her finger early on. I love the conversations between the kids that makes dad
smile. I am looking forward to the next young Grimlock story. Must read!

Spending the day with his daughter on "Take your daughter to work day" was not like her thought it would be.

Taking his daughter to work should have been a easy day but it didn't turn out that way. When it's time to collect a soul all he thoughts were on his his daughter would react.

Oh My Dog! I do not give 5 stars; I feel there is always room for improvement.
I adore Amanda M Lee; and have read all the Grimlock stories.
This short had me laughing out loud so often my husband kept saying “what’s happening?”
I definitely recommend this “prequel” story about Aisling and Jerry going on their first collection.

Absolutely not Grim!

This was a delightful short story! I found myself laughing out loud at times and tearing up at others. This is a wonderful vignette of the early relationship with Aisling and her dad, and of course Jerry. I'm very new to the series and this just set the hook deeply for me! Well done!

I loved this short story.

I loved getting to read about Aisling and Jerry being young. I really enjoy their relationship and seeing it from her Dad's perspective was wonderful. Although these stories are short, they are still packed with humor.

This was so cute I want to cry. It really brought asking and her father to life. It shows why he loves her so much and is willing to give her anything later on. Very sweet little episode for the series. Keep them coming!!!

Taking your daughter to work day

I really enjoyed reading about Aisling and Jerry when they were 8 yrs old and time spent with Mr and Mrs Grimlock in their thirties. I chuckled and outright laughed at what Aisling and Jerry had to say about their day!
