Highland Heartbeats #4

An Auctioned Bride

Rate this book
Some promises are forever…

Hugh McInnis, trying to escape the past and the present finds himself at an auction, his attention fixed on a Norwegian beauty intended for the highest bidder. He wished he could say what possessed him to bid on Dalla.

Dalla was intended for a convent—punishment for disobeying her father—until her uncle intercepted her journey and put her up for auction.

A stubborn, quiet Norwegian woman and a grumpy Highlands man have no business traversing the landscape. Not together, anyway. Yet, that's exactly what they are forced to do.

An infinite bore

This book was dull. Boring. Much too long.
The characters are one dimensional. Flat. The plot was drawn out and lifeless.

A highlander goes into tavern to get ale and there is a slave auction taking place and he ends up buying a Norwegian captive, a young woman who looks like his long lost love. Unfortunately, they become aware she is being pursued by evil men. That's the basic plot. Of course, she hates him because he's a Scot and their countries are at war in some unknown historical era that is never mentioned.

The characters are one-dimensional, lifeless and emotionless.....other than repetitious mention of events in their pasts. There us no sense of any development whatsoever. Their dialogue is stilted and bland.

Descriptions of events supposedly suspenseful, heartfelt or tenuous go on and on to the point this reader tended to skim entire paragraphs.....like the description of Dalla, the Norwegian captive, when she fearfully climbs a ladder to board a ship.....four pages of overlong description. I thought she'd never get on that ship. There are other examples of this tedious and too long describing as she gets herself into one dangerous situation after another and the so-called harrowing incidents if her stupidity are drawn out to ad nauseum.

The dead, emotion starved dialogue between siblings who haven't seen one another in a decade reminded this reader of 'Dumb and Dumber.'

No recommendation. Big yawn.

Sweet clean romance

I don't even think they kissed in this book and they were married!!! Lol. But I did like the story. The h is kidnapped from her family in Sweden and brought to Scotland to be sold as a slave. The H buys her and marries her. She finds out the Uncle is behind it because he is chasing them trying to kill them both. There is hiding in caves, injuries, a noble horse, and a thrilling sea voyage. And I felt that voyage from the authors writing skills. I truly did. It was amazing. I felt like I was in that ship as it rolled and rocked and fought against the waves. I really loved that part. So why three stars? Because you never find out why her uncle was wanting her dead!! That is why plus I didn't feel the romance at all between the two main characters. I will keep reading this author.

Warning alert: super clean story up ahead. And as another reviewer said, not even a kiss for the married couple in the whole story. I can actually fall in love with a clean story as long as there is romance, or the showing of the couple falling in love. I didn't feel that here at all, granted I didn't make it thru the whole book, but from the part that I did get thru... the heroine was a defiant little shrew. As soon as I realized that instead of romance, there would be evil guys chasing our couple thru the highlands, I was out. I felt that the author did a great job though setting up the story, explaining all of the characters well and I never felt lost. I could see editing errors that make me stop reading to question myself, 'sales' vs. 'sails', 'an' vs. 'and', and then a lot of repetition, like whole paragraphs copied, cut and pasted it seemed. I guess this is bound to happen when going thru the list of freebies I have accumulated.

Slave💃 To Her Highlander🐺🔪

Dalla💃, a Viking princess👸, is taken by slave traders right off of her country estate in southern Norway and shipped to Scotland to be sold into slavery. When she thinks about it on the voyage, she realizes either her father👹 or uncle👹 was the one to have it done. It wasn't random.

Hugh🐺🔪, a Scottish Warrior, is on a quest to find his brother, after so many years apart. He stops into the town where Dalla💃👸 has been brought ashore, and buys her at the auction.
Hugh🐺🔪 has the local priest marry them on the way back out of town. Now, instead of a slave, she is a highlander's wife👰!

Interesting book!📕

This was a very good story. I have not read one where Norway were at war with Scotland so it was different. Very good characters and a good plot. Recommended.

A good enough but forgettable read. I am also not clear on the Timeline. I do not know if the appearance of the Annoying American word "okay" in Chapter 21 is an editing flaw or not. "Okay" is about as uniquely American in 1840 as the Wild West and the American Frontier and had no business appearing in the Highlands of Scotland traveling thru time from the future? and crossing the Atlantic to become native in the Norwegian tongue, as this was supposed to be Dalla's soothing "conversation" with a horse. P.S. There is also the still to be answered question as to why was Dalla's Uncle Amund trying to kill her and whoever maybe helping her like Hugh, given that though of Royal blood, she is not a princess?

Awesome clean Highland romance

This was such a wonderful story. It captured my attention from the first page and held my attention throughout. This was a clean romance and it had a interesting storyline. The only complaint that I have with it was that I would have liked to know why Dalla's Uncle was out to kill her. The story never gave a reason for her Uncle wanting her dead. I could make assumptions from what I learned of Dalla's background but it would have been nice to know for sure the reason why. Other than that one complaint, I really enjoyed reading Hugh and Dalla's story.

Loved it

The main female character was a lower member of the Norwegian royal family and was supposed to go into a convent but before that could happen her uncle had her kidnapped and brought to Scotland to be sold as a slave. But Hugh was in the tavern that day and he saw her dignity even under her circumstances and bought her. But her uncle must have decided he would treat her too good because he chased them all over Scotland to make sure she was not going to survive, but Highlanders and pushed off princesses are pretty clever

An Auctioned Bride

An interesting tale. Dallas had an unhappy childhood with an unloving father, having lost her, mother in Childbirth Being kidnapped and transported, from Norway to Scotland to be put on the auction block, she was, fortunate that Hugh happened in and claimed her. Many unexpected twists and turns. Despite all the troubles they were able to locate Hugh;s brother and make their way home. I gave it 4 stars

I've read several of the books in this series and this one did not disappoint. A Highlander, leaving home to search for his twin brother comes upon an auction where Norwegian women captives are being sold. He ends up purchasing one and takes her to a church to be married. They have many adventures while continuing their travels, including trying to keep ahead of someone who wishes the girl dead.

She had been kidnapped from the grounds of her family's estate. Loaded on a boat with other women, then auctioned in a public house in Scotland.
Hugh had gone for an ale, before taking his purchased supplies back to a cabin in the wilds. He saw her, her hair colour reminded him of Elyse, and he had to have her.
She wasn't interested in him, with escaping on her mind.
However, events occurred and they had to work together to survive.

Hugh & Dalla

This book 📕 is has a lot of suspense and angst throughout. This is also clean story with barely one kiss and it being a Historical Romance genre I was disappointed. There’s a lot of activity in their meeting and surviving because of near death experiences of both H & h and being followed. There were few tender moments for the characters to connect and even though I usually love Scottish HR I only gave it 3 stars.

Good story

I liked the over all story, but between the grammatical errors and missing pages I feel I can't give a better rating. I really have enjoyed the characters in this book and the series.
This series is a very clean romance. I do believe a little bit of heat would make the story better.

Captive?

A princess, a protector, a match?
Dalla is a great heroine in this book ever thinking of ways to escape her kidnapping, sale and forced marriage.
Hugh is ever protective of his captive and now wife.
The tale of their progress toward the love in their hearts is entertaining and mysterious as they figure out why Dalla was kidnapped.

A Wonderful Story!

Well told! I enjoyed this story of a highlander who is searching for something more in his life. He gets much more than he bargained for!

This book is filled with adventure, danger and treachery. The perfect setting for a romance, right? Fate has a way of getting us where we belong. This story reflects that very well.

I can't even imagine being kidnapped and sold at an auction but in that era, it seems it was something that happened often. Dalla is vey lucky that it's Hugh who buys her and so their love story commences. Again I would have liked to have seen a bit more passion involved but I enjoyed Book 4 of this series nonetheless. Looking forward to Hugh's twin Derek's story now:)

But why was she kidnapped?

I read this whole wonderful story of danger, survival and intrigue and did not ever find out the reason Dalla was kidnapped because the boat her uncle Amund was on crashed and sunk! I feel slightly cheated, except, it was a marvelous story. I would even read it again!

Exciting, suspenseful, and discovery of love.

Intriguing story of a man looking for his twin brother. He buys a woman at an auction. He marries her, and then discovers someone is looking for her to kill her. He eventually finds his brother and asks for his help. Aileen Adams writes a compelling story that keeps you turning the pages to see what will happen next. I loved this book and think that you will also. Happy reading!

A Viking princess and a highland warrior. A clean romance between this unlikely combination. However, there are too many gaps in the story to make it a good story and, while likeable, the characters did not inspire me to fall in love with them.

Very sweet

Hugh was in the right place at the right place at the time to save Dalla's life. Dalla had been kidnapped and sold, why she really didn't know, but the Scot who had bought her was slowly winning her heart.

I didn’t enjoy this book much. She was a little much for my taste. She just didn’t listen. Then while he’s unconscious decides to like him? There’s no real resolution to the plot either. Just glad I got this for free.
