Ok, where do I start? This whole series was a bit of a mess, but interesting enough to keep me reading for 3 books, because I wanted answers and closure. I don’t feel like I got that from this. So many more questions arose, little mysteries that never get solved but felt like they had a lot to do with the whole plot, tons of unnecessary rape scenes and not enough time spent on building what was actually happening, and literally, about 95% of this book is “telling” as opposed to “showing”, meaning it’s a lot of recounting events that happened vs actually reading those events unfold, which again, felt unnecessary. Why not just write the scenes? By the end, epilogue does not feel like an epilogue but instead just the end of that chapter. We get zero answers on a whole of things, including anything definitive that would give me faith this was actually a HEA ending. For everything that happened, it wrapped up a little too quickly and left too many loose strings. Now, it’s clear the focus of this book series was leaning towards maybe erotica (?) which makes it more understandable that the plot points weren’t exactly well executed, as is common in that genre, when the author is just looking to provide some steamy scenes, but it didn’t hit the mark there either. None of it was particularly erotic and yet the rest of the story wasn’t well written either. It’s a shame, because the premise, with some tweaks, would have been a really interesting read. As it is, it feels like a first draft.
Tbh I’m kind of mad. Ella’s characterization turns her into the ultimate damsel in distress and Alec into a 1D villain. Also is he dead or not? You can’t make him invincible and then end the book 2 pages later! He didn’t even die officially on page!!!! What happened to Adaline? She needed to get her just deserts. The ending felt rushed and didn’t feel like an ending at all!
Other issues I had were: How the heck did Duncan run like a fricken maniac but had a broken rib protruding from his body, and some how didn’t puncture a lung??? How is Ella moving around after being brutalized by demon Alec? Sooooo many questions!
