ARC received for review

Hi, it's me who hasn't read the first six books or the companion series (Haven,Texas). All the names and couples got a little confusing at first but I didn't need to read their HEAs to enjoy this one.

Jenna and Curt have known each other all their lives (since she was 3) with him being significantly older than her. She's loved him forever, even when he married someone else. Took Curt a while after they reunited since he had to pull his head out of his arse and admit his feelings for her.

Now did the Brit really die? And what's with this stupid title...it made no sense with the book.

Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

I strongly suspect that had I read the first 7 books the rating would have been higher as I tend to get attached to series and my rating reflects emotional attachments as well as quality.

Despite having BDSM scenes and some violence this book was surprisingly sweet. A bit too much for me in fact. I debated giving it an extra 0.5 stars but in the end I couldn't justify it to myself and it just didn't feel like a 3.5 read. I know that I can't expect realistic romances, in fact it would be counterproductive to be too realistic, but having a crush on someone since basically a toddler and still having a crush on them some 20 years later is way too unrealistic. I don't even remember the name of my fist crush even though he still lives a couple of floors up in my old apartment building and I visit the place once an year. I'm sure that during those visits I've run into him numerous times but I don't even recognise him anymore yet alone have feelings for him. So for Jenna to still carry a torch for Curt after all these years, especially after years of not seeing him is unlikely. Add to that the age difference and it makes it even more unlikely. You know what would be more realistic and would work perfectly with the rest of the plot, her developing feelings for her after he . I suppose that in a way that's what happened in the book but she kept thinking about him even before so maybe not.

The unlikeliness of the romantic development and the choppy transitions between some of the scenes and the POVs detracted from an otherwise enjoyable read. The first couple of sex scenes were a bit lackluster but the last scene was really well done. For that alone To Save Sir was worth reading. I even think I'll read some of the other books in the series. There seem to be some very interesting characters populating this world.

I was so on the fence when reading this. I started it for the description that the smut in this book was going to be good. But the smut didn't start until about 60% in. All the way up to the first smut scene was just A LOT of sexual tension between the MCs. Which was super annoying to me.

I would probably give the smut a 2 star and the story line I'd give a 4 star. So I think a 3 star review is good enough for me.

The blurb sounded amazing, but unfortunately the book fell very short for me. While the idea behind it was different and intriguing I struggled with Jenna.

The book opens with a flashback of the "relationship" between Jenna and Curt. One that is built on a significant age difference and almost a brother/sister protection. Fast forward a number of years, Jenna is now all grown up and Curt is dealing with incredible heartbreak after the death of his wife (Jenna's cousin). Jenna is overseas with Doctor's without borders when the unbelievable brings Curt back into her life. Then we again fast forward until Jenna is in danger yet again when Curt comes back into her life this time to reveal what really happened when she was kidnapped.

All sounds interesting right?

Well, at some point during this story Jenna becomes this weak little woman who can't do anything for herself. It's as if when she found out that Curt was into BDSM and decided to explore it further, her entire being became a sub. She lost the person she was and was only focused on pleasing Curt. I hated how dependent and weak she suddenly became. It didn't fit with the character that had been developed up until that point.

Sexy smart BDSM romance

I've enjoyed Laylah Roberts' Doms of Decadence series very much and To Save Sir is a great addition.
I enjoyed seeing how Jenna and Curt's relationship morphed from Jenna's childlike expectations to real adult life. I thought they were well fleshed out characters and that the plot was solid. I enjoyed the secondary characters many who were crossovers from her other series.
It looks like the next book may feature Travis, I can hardly wait.

This was my first Laylah Roberts read and of course the first in the series I've read. However, it wasn't necessary to read the other books in the series before this one, although it would have helped in keeping the men straight since there were so many to remember...

This was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed the balance of suspense, love and heat. I particularly loved the beginning of the book - seeing little Jenna interact with an older Curt was absolutely adorable and really drew me into the book right off from the start.

But things are not so pretty after the prologue. We're taken to the moment where Jenna is being held captive in Sudan after some terrible things took place around here. It was heartbreaking to hear of what she endured and saw happen - I can't even imagine and it was all senseless. She thinks she's going to die there, but of course, Curt comes to her rescue (with some help) and he brings her back home. But then he goes and screws things up and they don't see each other for a while.

When they see each other again, it's because something bad has happened once again and Jenna is about to get some bad news that will send them on a journey to find the truth, who kidnapped her in Sudan and of course develop their budding relationship. But again, Curt is an idiot and seems to always say and do the wrong things. This pretty much goes on for half the book before he finally listens to Trevor and tones his harshness down a bit. The first half is full of sexual tension, but neither want to act on it, rinse and repeat.

Eventually, they get things worked out and Curt being the demanding guy he is becomes Jenna's lover and Dom. I was honestly a bit disappointed in the BDSM aspect of the book. Up until the epilogue, the BDSM was pretty basic and boring (it's super hot in the epilogue though). I expected more and was let down, but maybe that's just because I prefer BDSM-themed books to be a bit more daring and not so vanilla. And given the title of the book and series, it just seemed watered down for the genre.

Ignoring all that, the plot is great. I was left surprised and wondering what would happen next every time I turned around, which is probably why I read this one so quickly - I just didn't want to put it down. If there was one part of the plot that I didn't like, it was how things went down with the villain in the end. There was such a build-up until that point that it was boring and disappointing when we get the resolution of the situation.

Oh and I really loved the town of Haven!

I'll go back and read the previous books though and really hope that Trevor gets a book next since I really liked him.

Title: To Save Sir - Doms of Decadence Book 7
Author: Laylah Roberts
Publisher: Laylah Roberts
Date of Publishing: February 5, 2018

This book given to me by NetGalley and Laylah Roberts in exchange for my honest review.

This book was surprising in that it was more than just a romance book. It was also a thriller, filled with self discovery and courage of the heart to go where many fear. Yes there are aspects of BDSM, D/s, Explicit sexual scenes, and some strong language, but also surprisingly enough very little strong language. Instead Ms. Roberts relies on her writing talents, which are very strong, to carry the story. She grabs the attention of the reader from the very first page and holds it to the closing paragraph.

Lead characters Jenna Jasons and Curt Nolan are strong, and well developed. Along with the multidimensional support characters. Characters that may remind you of people from your every day life. We get to see the characters at their lowest and watch as they pull their lives back together after tragedy has brought them practically to their knees.

Even without the romance aspect of the story I still would have enjoyed the suspense written into the story. Unable to put the book down and resenting anything that might interrupt my time spent getting to know more of Jenna and Curt.

I gave "To Save Sir - Doms of Decadence Book 7" a 5 out of a total of 5 stars.

Jenna met Curt when her ice cream dropped, and he brought her another one, she knew she was going to marry him, a few years later she sees Curt kissing her cousin, being so young Jenna sees kissing as yucky.
When Jenna is eleven she sees that Curt is cold, he isn’t soft and gentle like he used to be, but he had just lost his wife.
Fifteen years later Jenna’s kidnapped and beginning to think she won’t survive. Jenna thinks it’s a dream when she hears Curt’s voice but realises that she’s being rescued by him and a team. Curt tries to believe that he is only feeling possessive and protective because he’s known Jenna since she was three and she’s nearly family.
Seeing Jenna after a therapy session, Curt knows she shouldn’t be alone and he takes her to his place to get her to eat something, which ends up with her on his lap telling her what happened while she was kidnapped. When Jenna tries to kiss Curt, he doesn’t handle it well, unsure why he’s got any feelings for her, so he makes sure he’s words push her away.
Jenna moves on with her life, until they find out that she may be in danger from charges her father has been charged with. Curt turns up with his friend to protect her and Curt realises that he wants Jenna, but she friend zones him and he wonders what to do now. Will Curt get Jenna to understand how much he cares for her, is Jenna going to realise that after everything they have been through her childhood crush can be a reality or still believe that Curt really only thinks of her as a baby sister. They also have the fear of the possible real reason why she was the only one kept alive and kidnapped looming in threat.

I do love that this series is very serious about the issue of consent and the stories are all guaranteed a happy ending (pun intended).

In this book, Jenna suffers some pretty horrific traumas when she's out in Sudan with the Doctors Without Borders organisation. Thankfully, she has a knight in shining armour on hand available to save her and bring her home.

This book revolves a lot more around emotions and PTSD than I expected, the fuzzy emotions are really sweet but I found that there was quite a lot of suspension of disbelief required to get on board with the main characters wanting to get naked most of the time. As a rule, enormous psychological trauma is not sexy.

What I did really enjoy though was that Jenna never gives up on her career as a doctor and she ends up in a small Texan town called Haven, where we meet with some of the characters from that series (I've never read them but I can spot a reference when I see one!) and she finds her community.
All of the characters are strong, the men are incredibly protective (annoyingly so in many cases) and are obsessed with defending the womenfolk - great if that's your jam but a bit oppressive if not.

After reading this, I seem to be working backwards through the series and will probably branch out into other series by this author so that tells you all you need to know!

I must say that this is one of my favorite stories so far in the Doms of Decadence series. I loved Jenna! And I appreciated how realistically her anxiety and other issues were dealt with after her tragic ordeal in Sudan.

Curt certainly doesn’t make himself much of a sympathetic character, at least not during the current time period. Not only does he reject Jenna at one point, but he does so in a particularly cruel manner, and right after she’s opened up to him about some of the trauma with which she has been dealing, no less. Although tiny glimpses of his true soft-hearted self do occasionally peak through, like when he brought Sergeant Teddy to Jenna upon her rescue from the terrorists.

Watching these two finally come together and then slowly start to form a caring and trusting relationship is nice to see. As usual, the peripheral characters in the story are interesting as well, the side stories entertaining, and the dialogue often cheeky and fun.

Some of the BDSM elements are a bit over the top for me, but nothing too extreme; and the love scenes are definitely hot. There are also a couple of incongruencies in the timeline of the story, but other than that this is a sizzling, well plotted, endearing and entertaining read.

I received a free eBook copy of this title from NetGalley and have willingly provided an honest review.

Emotional romance…

Jenna had loved Curt for what was almost her entire life. When they came together again, and again, there were so many chances to get it right. Too bad emotions kept getting in the way…

I’ve loved this author’s stories for years. Covering a number of romance sub-genres at the heart of each read is always people. Their foibles, their strengths. Their ability to overcome and forgive. I haven’t read a lot of this series though I’ve devoured the Haven books like cotton candy. I have been avoiding BDSM lately but I couldn’t resist Jenna and Curt’s story…

And I’m so glad I dived in! This was a whirlwind with new characters to enjoy and much-loved ones to savour. Getting a chance to reconnect with Haven folks was great as they reminded me why
I loved their stories so much. A re-read is definitely coming up! This author knows how to convey emotion and the complicated things that are family and love.

If you haven’t read Haven I suggest you do because this story will be even better! ~Diane, 4 stars

Jenna Jasons fell in love with Curt Nolan when she was a little girl. Now she's all grown and has lives through a horrendously tragic event, Curt has become her protector but lets her know he's not interested in anything else. Jenna escapes all the pressures of family including Curt and finds some contentment int he small town of Haven. Curt shows up on her doorstep with some devastating news that turns her world upside down and as usual Curt is his usual surly, grumpy self. Finally realizing that he loves Jenna he seeks to make amends. She stuns him when she asks him to dominate her. She's everything he ever wanted in a woman and a sub. An unscrupulous FBI agent puts Jenna at risk by circulating false information. She's able to get to safety, just barely, and Curt comes for her as he said he would. Curt finally sees that Jenna really wants a life in Haven not Dallas so he makes that happen by moving there with her. Small town life gives them what they both want....an HEA!

I really liked this book. Having not read any of this authors books previously, saying that I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book. These characters are strong and feisty. I have a really good inclination that I will go and start at the beginning of this series. ;). This book was awesome and well written. It didn't feel rushed and each character has its place. Haven,Texas is a town filled with aggressive beautiful ALPHA males and really? What's not to love! It is suspenseful and you don't feel like the female in the read is whiney and dumb. LOVED IT!! Definitely a must read!! I didn't start reading this series in the first book and I didn't feel at a loss because I didn't. Honestly that really makes me want to read the other books in this series more! Loved it!!

This was not a bad read. I read it pretty quickly. The sex scenes weren’t quite at hot as I was hoping, but ehh. It uses a very familiar trope that started when the female was VERY young. I’m still not quite sure how I feel about that one. I’m probably going to read more from this author though.

Romantic thriller with a BDSM twist

No plot spoilers
No real potential triggers
There are some grammatical and editorial errors that really irritated missing words, words used in wrong context and words seemingly left behind after editing - the usual poor editing the author seems to be happy with since they are a constant in ever book she has published.
It's a shame because the characterisation is good with individual personalities that allow you to form a connection, probably the reason I keep reading her work.
The plotline is engaging enough to keep you turning the pages even if it's a bit naive and the usual for the genre.
It's an opportunity to escape from reality for a few hours.
There are some sex scenes, BDSM themed and some swearing.
If you are a fan of the genre, not heavy handed, then you would probably enjoy the series.

A very emotional read. Great storyline and surprising plot. Character are very well described and develops nicely. I like the use of words that kept me on the edge. Very captivating from start to finish. The hint of kink is very well written. The story has drama, heartbreak, action, betrayal, secrets, passion, possessiveness and unexpected twists. Story about taking what you desire and what attracts you. To let yourself have your HEA with the one you cannot let go.

I like that the characters from previous books in this series is also in this story. That gives it all an update. But the book can be read as a standalone.

Jenna and Curt

Overall, this was a good story. While I’m not really a fan of age gap romances—especially when the characters knew each other before both were adults—this one was still an engaging read. The fact that Jenna had a childhood crush on Curt makes sense, but if he had feelings for her back then, it would have felt a bit weird to me. That dynamic just never quite sits right.

That being said, the book was well-written, and the storyline kept me engaged from start to finish. While it’s not high on my re-read list, I might come back to it one day. It was a solid read, just not my personal favorite due to the trope.

This is the seventh book in the series and they really need to be read in order to you know who everyone is. This is a super addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. I just loved Curt and Jenna these two have been friends forever and she has always had feelings for him even as a little girl but even though he has always looked out for her he let her know it will never be more. But what happens when he realises she is the woman for him and when she ends up in danger will he get to her in time? I love this series and each book gets better and better

Great reading!!!!

It was so hot in the beginning of the book when travis was flirting with her too that I thought damn, this is so seexxxy I hope they both have scenes with her. Then travis mentioned that he liked to share with his brother and I was like omgoodness maybe there will be a book about that in the series. This book was good but I'm more into the reverse harem or one really over the top sexually charged man. Keep up with your writing style you are extremely talented.

To Save Sir by Laylah Roberts is book Seven "Doms of Decadence" series. This is the story of Jenna and Curt. I haven't yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book. Jenna joined "Doctors Without Borders" but that leads her to need help. Curt has a troubled past where the only thing he seems to care about is his job working for Black-Gray Investigations. When he is hired to save Jenna opens him up to saving himself too.
Enjoyed their story!

Nothing hurts worse than rejection. And Jenna's heart is torn in two when the hero of her childhood, the boy who saved her ice cream cone and gave her hugs, marries her cousin instead. But when she is kidnapped and taken hostage, he appears in the darkest hour. Will he realize that she is the one for him? Will his anger at being deceived tear apart what could be their future? Love the tie to Haven.

With character crossovers from another series, and characters from other books popping in, this book can get a little confusing. I would suggest reading the others first so you know the lay of the land.
The slow burn between the two MC's was great, I prefer that to an insta lust connection.
The storyline was great and the plot had plenty of twists.

Young and forever love

This is a story about a little girl who goes through a terrible experience, who grows into a wonderful strong young woman only to go through a horrific experience, which thankfully brings her back in his arms: Curt. He's wounded, a widower, ex navy, much older than her and perfect for her.
