Another action packed kick ass female strong book. I enjoyed reading this book. It is a prequel to his book Land of the Free. Which is also a awesome book. It introduces the readers to the kick ass warrior females of his universe. I think Micheal W Huard does a beautiful job of blending Steampunk and Science Fiction. If you want to read a great book with a lot of action then this writer is the one for you. I can not wait to read what else has in store for our cyborg heroines.

This story holds the kind of faith in freedom I believed as child. The power truly is in the hands of the many. If they will only stand together against the enemy. May they find a symbol of that truth in the power of women all the better.

I would say the book is well, a rompfest starring hot women in tight fitting skimpy costumes fighting against powerful mecha robots in gladiator rings in a dystopian society of the Northeastern US. A person that will enjoy this book will likely ignore tidbits like sword stab injuries to the wrist will not be a hindrance to the next death match fight 2 days away (it seems like insta healing sprays can be purchased which sort of solves this plot hole) or that an illegal performance enhancing drug (which is somehow neither made illegal or used by every fighter) can allow a 5'4 woman to kill a 300 pound man in hand to hand combat with ridiculous ease.

You might have to turn off the improbability factor that a struggling guerrilla army of women is commanded by a meteorologist or that most of their financing comes from winning gladiator death matches instead of the much more profitable endeavour of simply selling defective chips to the enemy corporation robot warrior and airplane factories and then let an army of brilliant hackers to simply activate the vulnerability and pretty much take over the corporation's weapons arsenal without killing starving street thugs that probably don't like the government either.

If you like the idea of 70% of the book being about a hot blonde chick named Mahira going to a series of gladiator death matches to kill opponents for cash and get nonstop sword action while wearing a suiting red, white & blue patriotic tight fitting dress, you probably won't care about plot holes. While I am probably not the right public for this book, I can see why a lot of people would not mind worldbuilding issues and just want to have a good time.

I kind of like the cyborg sidekick/bodyguard character named Tyne that trails along in the story. The novella doesn't really talk about her past history or if she joined the guerrilla army out of a free will or she was reprogrammed. The antagonists and corporate bad guys are mostly cartoonish stock characters. I think the only somewhat memorable antagonist is the toothless redneck thief that stole Mahira's prior fight winnings (yes, we have a plothole where her money is stolen by his gang and she seems to be perfectly ok about it).

All in all, in a way I do like a lot of the overall ideas flounted in the book where a feisty young woman wants to literally fight for her freedom from the iron fist rule of corrupt old oligarchs with cybernetic bodies in a region of the US that is not used very often in dystopia. I will even be tolerant of some of the silly things Mahira says that would be fitting for the menwritewomen twitter handle. But I do think the book could have smoothened the plot hole issues that are rampant and focused the book less on the endless assembly line of death match fights and more on the society and a deeper explanation of why Mahira and Tyne are guerrilla warriors openly exposing their faces to the masses at the risk of their own lives. But if I ignore the cons, the read was still pretty good, I like how the author describes the fights.

An action packed story that reads like a described video Hentai movie! The combat scenes are fast and violent! The blend of Sci-Fi and dystopian steampunk is breath taking in its scope! Our super heroine couple in this story travel the devastated country fighting in arena death matches to earn funds for the Mystic Slayers cause! Plans are afoot to take down the evil A-Wood corp. but there is an element of romance in the story as well! A sprinkling of humor keeps the story from getting too dark and adds more life to the characters! The novella sets the reader up for the main event series nicely! Sexy and wild the sassy Hellcat dominates this episode with her super smart android sidekick Tyne Gem! I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy!

This is a prequel novella for "Land of the Free." We get to know Mahira , Tyne Gem and a little bit about Blu, women of the Sisterhood. Mahira is a kickass martial arts and gladiatorial arena fighter . Tyne is an enhanced cyborg. Blu, a self professed "greatest pilot in the world" and also a warrior . Mahira and Tyne are traveling the arenas across the country earning much needed money for the Sisterhood. Blu helps when she is needed. The fight scenes are entent and violent. And there is plenty of action to go around. Sometimes the ladies find fights outside the arena, which is right up Mahiras alley. So, if you are looking for lots of action with plenty of fights, look no further. The author is well versed in the martial arts and delivers exciting scenes. A must read!

The Hellcat novella is totally action packed from start to finish, so if you like your fight scenes, martial arts, and general ass-kicking (especially the girl-power kind!) then this book will be absolutely perfect for you! As a prequel to Michael W. Huard's novel "Land of the Free" Hellcat does a great job of introducing some of the fabulous characters and will leave you itching to find out what happens next. Highly recommended :-)

This seems like some kind of fan fiction. Lots of repetitive phrases & jumpy scene changes. I can see the story he is trying to tell but it needs a lot of editing to flow better

Lots of gutsy fight action in this novella in the Mystical Slayers Heritage series.

The reader is introduced to Mahira, and Tyne Gem who is a mega-clever cyborg, but passes as a human in the first instance. Tyne actually meets a man who she's attracted to, but unfortunately that doesn't end well.

Mahira is a kick-ass fighter who goes around winning all her bouts and collecting her prize money on behalf of the Sisterhood, who fight for justice and the truth against the might of money and the old boys' network, namely the Y-Wood Corporation. So what else is new, eh? Friendship is very strongly highlighted here, and they would die for each other. That's obvious.

It's easy to read and you'll want to know what happens next.

I didn't know what to expect of this book as dystopian isn't my usual genre but thos has me hooked. A story with lots of strong kick ass women, fighting, friendship and a common purpose it was equally exciting as heart breaking.

I loved the fighting scenes that were described really well and I felt I was in the story. It's written well and easy read and has me wanting more.
