PRAYING THE PROMISES is a beautifully done hardcover giftbook style of devotional. It contains a page of thoughts about a Bible hero that obeyed and believed the promises of God, a page of Bible verses about that particular promise, a prayer, and an application for the reader to try to put into practice.
As a devotional, it is not really meaty, but it is more filling than some of the five minutes with God varieties of devotions. It does have food for thought, and if you want more you can get out a concordance or other theological books and do a study on the subject.
This would make a nice gift for any one who loves devotionals, someone who's struggling with the promises of God and wants to learn how to pray them, and for church libraries for people to check out. It might even be a good gift for a pastor as a jumping off point for a series of messages about God's promises.
Are you looking for an inspirational book that’s filled with hope you can hang your hat on? In Praying The Promises: Anchor Your Life To Unshakable Hope, Max and Andrea Lucado have provided us with an easy-to-read devotional that’s filled with promises that God has given us in His Word – an encouraging teaching – additional Scriptures to meditate upon – prayers that help us to incorporate God’s promise from Scripture into our conversations with Him – and affirmative “I Will statements” that help us to apply the truth of God’s Word to our lives!
I like this simple format for several reasons. First, for those of us who are new to the faith, it presents promises from God’s Word in a format that’s easy to understand and provides new Christians with a way of processing and applying scriptural truths to their lives. Next, for those of us who are in a busy season, it provides us with a way to stay connected to God and focus on the truths we most need to here. Finally, for those of us who are feeling discouraged, Praying The Promises gives us real hope and reminds us that God loves us, God is faithful to us, and His Word – His promises – will not return void.
Praying The Promises is a great book to start and end your day with. There is lots of room on each page for note-taking. This book also makes a great gift for a loved one.
4.5 stars - this book is full of wisdom and helpful promises… not a book to read in one sitting and could be read throughout the year or when you need to reflect on a promise from God…
I found this book encouraging and helpful in reminding me Who to turn to when the world around seems a bit too crazy for me to deal with. I see marriages failing, deaths, hurtful people, people struggling, people rejecting God, etc....Thankfully we who are believers have a hope and the promises from God. We just need to believe and trust Him and His Word. So let's be people who go straight to God for all things. This book will remind you what God has promised and provides you with powerful prayers to speak to God with.
The Lucado's write "We do not need more opinions or hunches; we need the definitive declarations of our mighty and loving God." The first promise the Lucado's share is about how God has made a covenant with you. When we understand this, we can't but trust God, because "not only is God a promise maker, God is a promise keeper". That is just the first promise the Lucado's write about. Other promises are you are stamped with God's Image, troubles come but so does God, God is near, Jesus is your Redeemer, your prayers have power, Jesus offers living water, death is temporary, the Holy Spirit empowers you, hope is an anchor for your soul, and many more.
This book is the perfect gift to give yourself or someone you know who is struggling in their Christian walk. This can be used as a daily devotional book or to be picked up and read anytime. There are 30 different promises, along with Scriptures and a prayer to go with each promise that will point you to God and His Word.
The cover of this book caught my eye. I like lighthouses, and I also like Max Lucado's writing. I figured it had to be good.
This is not a Bible promise book full of promises from the Bible, though there are a lot of those in the book. It is more like a devotional. There are 30 chapters. Each one starts with a page that has the title of the chapter, followed by a promise from the Bible. The second page has the Unshakable Hope section, which is thoughts on promises in the Bible. The third page has a few promises, followed by a page with a prayer about promises. The chapter ends with the "I am" section, which is a statement of what we are as Christians.
Throughout the book are pages with lighthouses and anchors in the background, making a very attractive book with its reds and whites.
Lucado and his daughter did a great job on the book. The promises they picked out are varied and relative to today. The Unshakable Hope sections are very well written, interesting, and helpful. The prayers are a very neat way of praying the promises, something most of us probably don't do enough of....if at all. And the reminders of what we are in Christ are very encouraging.
This book could be read several chapters at once, but I would recommend going through it a chapter a day, and using it as a 30 day devotional.
In this book the Lucado’s show by God’s word he has given us a promise for every problem we may face in our life. It shows by reading God’s word and praying we can find hope in every situation, no matter what it might be. I have been reading and enjoying this book very much. I have found at the end of a long day, sitting and reading God’s promises can uplift my heart. There is a commentary of each topic, followed by promise scriptures. Next there is a prayer for praying God’s promises and my most favorite is the “I AM or I Will” section. I love reading these out loud. I highly recommend this book. It is filled with inspiration and most of all God’s love and hope through his Word!
The book is hard-bound with dust cover and is small enough to carry in your purse, backpack or brief case. The pages are smooth and white making the print crisp and easy to see. It uses many of the common versions of the Bible. The cover under the dust jacket is red with gold lettering. This would make a perfect gift for anyone.

Max Lucado and Andrea Lucado have written an inspiring book on prayer. "Praying the Promises" is a devotional prayer book which encourages readers to pray the promises of God and offers assistance through 30 promises of God found in Scripture. Each promise is presented through Scripture passages, a sample prayer and "I am" and "I will" statements that help you claim the promise and proclaim your part in bringing that promise to fruition in your life.
As always, Max Lucado offers encouragement and insight. Along with Andrea, they have created a great prayer resource that will help you and make a great gift for those in your life who need some biblical encouragement in a world of trouble, pain and hopelessness.

Reading this book gives hope to the hopeless. It's encouraging and uplifting. The author reminds us that no matter how bad our situation is or appears to be, there's always hope. Jesus is the anchor that we're to attach ourselves to. He will never leave us nor forsakes us. He stands on His word and if we do the same (stand on His word ) our hope will be UNSHAKABLE!!! In Jesus' name Amen.
Upbeat Max Lucado never disappoints ... this book demonstrates his secure faith in the promises of God ... first, he states each promise, then he illustrates it with a Bible character or narrative, cites scriptures supporting it, and wraps up with a pattern prayer to drive home his point ... good, practical ammunition for the Christian life ...
A very helpful and thought-provoking book, in 30 sections each with affirmations, explanations, Bible verses to contemplate for each section and prayers. I have to admit I started this with a preconceived idea that I wasn't going to like it, but it has provided me with a lot of food for thought and is a book I will be coming back to. Excellent as a study over a month.
(This refers to the Audible version.) Max and Andrea Lucado have written a wonderful devotional. The short chapters remind us of God’s many, many promises, and by reading, praying, and using them, we truly have “unshakable hope.”
As always, Ben Holland does a masterful job of conveying Max Lucado’s style of writing and speaking.
Good devotional that is inspiring, hopeful and backed up with truth from the Bible. The format and style makes it great for a gift - I can’t wait to pass along to others who may need to be comforted and encouraged.
This devotional is very good in !earning the promises of God. Of course l love anything he writes, for he writes with love for the Lord. Also when he writes as if he really want you to understand God through God's eyes. A+ for this book.
Wonderful resource. This can be read in a devotional format and gives you the ability to pause and reflect on each point, inviting us to pray on each issue. Our prayers always work best if we can pray God's own words back to Him. This comes highly recommended.
Max Lucado has been one of my favorite authors for years. His books have helped me grow closer to God. I loved starting my day with a reading from this book. The Scriptures and prayers were a very helpful part of the reading.
Enjoyed book immensely,I was so in need of a review of God's Promises in this time issues our country is experiencing. Thanks, I always enjoy Your books.
