This was just what I needed to read – a daily devotional with personal anecdotes they call “grace-stories,” as well as encouraging advice, Bible verses to back up the advice, thought-provoking questions, and a lighthearted, positive attitude. Written by two writers/friends who use their own life as examples. I have read a few books (both fiction & nonfiction) by Robin Jones Gunn, so knew this book was going to be good. It didn’t disappoint – easy to read, supportive, and honest. I really liked the personal and from-the-heart approach.

Robin, a multi-award-winning author who has written over 100 best-selling books, including the timeless Christy Miller series, defines “Sisterchick” as a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and gives you a reality check within you’re being a brat.” In addition to this devotional there are several Sisterchicks novels that I’m going to have to read.

This devotional would be great to read in a small group, with a girlfriend, or on your own. I highly recommend.

I slowly read, savored and pondered each “grace-story” and its accompanying scripture verses in “Take Flight”by Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannon. It’s a short devotional book (less than 140 pages) which I plan to read again and again.

“A better thing this grace now brings. It bids you fly and gives you wings!”

TAKE FLIGHT - Sisterchicks in the word by Robin Jones Gunn & Cindy Hannan is a Christian devotional book for women where you can find examples of God's grace, as well as answers to questions about life experiences through ordinary stories and relatable Biblical verses. The kind of experiences where "women can open their hearts to each other" (p.7) and hear the God-centered answers that "nudge" them into deeper reflections.
**Sorry guys, this one is for the ladies. We're not saying that there isn't any value in their pearls of wisdom, but we don't think this book will be lying around your man cave.

So what is a Sisterchick? What is grace? And how does this book connect the dots?
• A "Sisterchick" is a whimsical concept of sisterly bonding defined as a "friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and gives you a reality check when you're being a brat." (p.7)
• Grace is "the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings." (www.oxforddictionaries.com)
• The stories connect the dots because the "remind us that even in moments that seem graceless, God's hand kept you from tumbling into oblivion." (p.7) and we get to see how God's grace is interwoven and intertwined in various scenarios and situations.
Complete with a series of adventurous stories to tell the world, TAKE FLIGHT is a devotional book in the Sisterchick movement (bet you didn't know there was such a thing!). These are not stories only about grace, but about courage and chance encounters that really aren't random coincidences. Heidi Quade once said, "A coincidence is a small miracle where God chose to remain anonymous." According to the authors, this is a spiritual journey of female travel-buddies and spirit-filled adventure companions.

What is refreshing about the book TAKE FLIGHT is that the authors take a different approach to the traditional "devotional time" format of plain old daily verses from the Bible. Instead you get a nice spin and find "From Robin's Nest" which sets the tone for the stories. "From Cindy's Perch" is where she reflects on each story with encouraging observations.

However, a devotional book wouldn't be a devotional book without the tried-and-true thoughtfully selected Biblical verses that support, explain, encourage, reinforce, reflect, discern and/or understand how the Word connects the story with daily life. This section is appropriately entitled "Take a Closer Look." The real key takeaways are the suggestions to strengthen your friendships with your "soul-sisters" in unique ways - "like making the time to have lunch with a friend who needs a new dream...listening is the first language of loving." (p.26).

The ladies share experiences about women connecting and being connected to God can help get you back on track. Each story, each question, every answer, has one goal in mind-to bring you closer to God. In order to do that you must "examine the voices in your head. Do they bring you closer to God or pull you away from Him?" (p.33). The only criticism we had, was the choice to use black and white pictures. The pictures weren't of the best quality and didn't add any value to the quality of the book.

If prayer or spirituality is an important part of your life but you have become lackadaisical in your daily devotion and there are many ways you may want to create a new daily routine that helps you stay on point. Give TAKE FLIGHT a second look, it is written in a thoughtful, kind and loving way that has the potential to uplift you as many times as you need it.
THOUGHTS for your SOUL:
• One of the wonderful characteristics of a true friendship is that it can survive separation, both by time and distance. (What encouraging words from a friend still ring in your ears? Is there someone in your life who needs your love and acceptance right now? He [God] might just wrap up His grace and send it through you.) (p.39).
• Don't let fear make the decisions for you. (p.56).
• When a woman knows she's loved, she can do anything. She grows stronger in her sweet and abiding affection for the One who loves her. (p.79).

WaterBrook Multnomah provided a complimentary copy of A Sisterchicks' Devotional: Take Flight! by Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannan in exchange for an honest review.
What is a Sisterchick? This is the friend that does life with you. The friends that love you so much they are willing to tell you when you're wrong (of course, in the nicest way possible). They accept you, flaws and all, loving you just the same. These are the friends that will squabble with you and laugh with you and maybe, sometimes at you.
From the first page the reader will get the idea she has book a devotional quite original in its own right. Friends and authors, Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannan, have collaborated to bring us A Sisterchicks' Devotional. The name itself screams fun! Robin pens Robin's Nest with a flourish-filled, story-telling voice and shares personal experiences for a few pages making the reader ponder their own life experiences. In the subsequent pages titled, Cindy's Perch, Hannan delivers questions and thoughts to provoke more engagement building upon the story. Tie that in with Bible verses and room to jot down a few thoughts we have a promising devotional.
Apparently, there is a Sisterchicks line of fictional books that Gunn has written that inspired this work. However, by no means would any reader have to read those other books to gain from A Sisterchicks' Devotional. This volume has stories that deal with genuine worship to hospitality to getting out of a funk. This is for a woman's everyday life. Every story/experience that is shared is not an extraordinary moment within itself but, the repercussions of seeing God in that moment bringing the extraordinary into the seemingly ordinary.
One of my favorite devotions from this book was Cindy's desire to relinquish control of her heart to God as she stood in awe of a sunset. Rather than simply admiring His handiwork she wanted to worship His work unabashedly, with abandon of her own inhibitions. In each reading there is some wisdom to be gleaned and treasured. There isn't one Christian woman who wouldn't benefit from this collaborative effort in some measure, for our walk is never complete here on earth.
Gunn and Hannan our obviously good friends as it comes across on the pages. A Sisterchicks' Devotional would be a great small study book. Although, there isn't a lot of content; there are 14 devotions in under 150 pages. However, I could surely see these pages leading to deep conversations with our sisters in Christ. This is also a great gift book or nice devotional for the solo reader. No matter what, these ladies will encourage your heart to Take Flight! and soar with the Lord.

I received A Sisterchicks Devotional TAKE FLIGHT
http://waterbrookmultnomah.com/result... by Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannan and could not put this down. It just hit home with me as I'm sure it will with so many others. Robin, a gifted author for many years, shares Bible verses, stories & pieces of her life and heart just as if she knew we were sisterchicks A sisterchick by definition: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you're being a brat. Robin encourages us to spend time with God,to dig deep into His boundless grace, and quit flitting around, but really take flight as a Christian because there are things to do and places to go! And Robin's sisterchick and pastor's wife, Cindy, challenges us to live out what we have just studied (there's a place for notes) and shares insightful bits of wisdom as to how we might minister to others along this journey. I really did love this Nouveau Devo, it is interesting, tugging at my heart, convicting me & encouraging me to get on out of the birdcage that I'm put myself in, and take flight through God's love and mercy in this wonderful journey of life. This book was sent to me by Multnomah publishers in exchange for an honest review. Great Book!

Are you looking for a great devotional that gives you more than a verse and an explanation? Well look no more because I have found the perfect devotional for you. Take Flight A Sisterchicks Devotional written by Robin Jones Gunn and her sisterchick Cindy Hannan.

What is a “Sisterchick” you ask? A “Sisterchick” is a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat. Don’t we all need one of those??? I would definitely say we do.

Take Flight takes a true story from Robin, with quotes from her Sisterchicks novels, and Cindy writes questions based on the story Robin tales along with Scripture and explanations. There is also a place after each devotional for you to write how it spoke to you, what you learned, or whatever God lays on your heart to write.

I have never seen a devotional put together like this one and I definitely recommend it to all ladies, this devotional would be a perfect to do a bible study on. Both Robin and Cindy wrote this devotional in the hopes that it would spark a deeper love for our heavenly father in us and for His unending grace. I can honestly say that has happened while reading the pages of this devotional.

I received this book free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Company in exchange for an honest review.

But I had no idea how much it would touch my soul - I'm glad they don't expect the book to be returned (with all the tear-stained pages).

On a lighter note, I loved all the flight references: preflight prep, birds-eye view, on a wing and a prayer - it was so much fun!

The first section opens with grace -God's Grace - which is what makes life worth living.

"If we cannot believe God when circumstances seem to be against us, we do not believe Him at all."
-Charles Spurgeon

This novel explores grace-stories of life, but in a truly unique way. Robin tells a grace story; Cindy summarizes it and asks the reader questions to plant the story deeper in the heart & mind. Then there's room left at the end for the reader to write a few notes. And last but not least, suggestions for applying what's been learned!

Read this devotional! But have a box of tissues handy.

I've collected books from Robin Jones Gunn for years. I bought the Christie Miller series & Sierra Jensen series for my daughter. Most of them were bought in a little bookstore at Dollywood just after the park opened.

Then I began collecting Sister Chick novels just for me. This devotional is an awesome addition to my book collection.

"Ah, grace. Grace that would bid us fly and give us wings! What a welcoming image - being set free to become all God intended and to soar through life." Thus begins this wonderful Sisterchick devotional. Does this statement mean there will never be trouble in our lives? No, but it points to the grace of God that can get us through anything.

Devotional readings are meant to inspire, instruct, and illuminate our lives. They are meant to give us help to be better in every aspect of our lives. "Take Flight!" does this. Throughout the devotional readings, we are given challenges, words of wisdom, and are invited to take a closer look at Scripture to better understand what God wants for us. With chapters like "Sunset Worship," "Never Too Late," and "Stars Were Singing," readers are encouraged to practice praise and worship through the grace of God. Come, lift up your voice and "Take Flight."

I love the Sisterchick books, so this was a natural choice for me. There are fourteen devotionals filled with information and inspiration, and each could easily take a week or more to study. I love the way each devotion is sectioned out and it isn't filled with just reading, but also encouragement to study and to do other assignments as well. I recommend this book to Christians everywhere, along with the other Sisterchick books. They will bless your heart and soul.

My first impression of "Take Flight" was the fact that this isn't the "usual devotional book" that I normally would read or review.

The writing is best described like a series of encouraging notes and letters that reminds me of texts and emails, good friends would send to each other to give each other a much needed pick me up.

Scriptural based and filled with the occasional journal options to explore bible passages deeper, I was impressed both by the fact that we are not talking about a deep or big devotional.

This is a book that I can see myself picking up during a busy time in life and over a cup of coffee working through.

The closer looks are non-intimidating,here's a bible passage to read and mull over and all in all, the book just reads like a laid back, take a rest and fill your mind and heart with Gods word.

Suggestions and quotes are filled throughout the book and make for a small book that really packs a needed spiritual punch when it is needed.

"Take Flight" is just one of those books that if you have a hard day and just needed a soul lift it provides a non-committal way to get that much-needed boost in the day.

For the casual reader, I would suggest "Take Flight". Many of us often need a laidback reading yet something with Biblical substance and this is a devotional that does the trick.

A sweet and encouraging devotional book. Nothing too strenuous but full of encouragement. The stories contributed by Robin Jones Gunn and the application provided by her co-author, Cindy Hannan, are all fantastic.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review but the book, honestly, sat on my bedside table for several days before I picked it up. Sometimes God uses our procrastination to bless us - as it turns out, I started reading this book right when I really needed the encouragement and reminders of His care for me.

My one quibble with this book is that most of the scripture passages are quoted from The Message. The Message is OK, as paraphrases go, but I want to know what the Bible really says. I kept one of my preferred translations handy before accepting any application from a Bible passage quoted from The Message.

That one point aside, I highly recommend this for anyone looking for an easy but encouraging devotional. With just 14 short chapters, you could work through it easily in a month or stretch it out longer by doing one a week in addition to whatever other devotional tools you prefer.

I have never read any of the Sisterchicks books, but I saw this devotional on the Blogging for Books site and decided to try it. This devotional is different from others I have seen, and I really enjoyed it.
There are four sections, each containing either three or four chapters. The chapters are short, ten or so pages, so you can pick up wherever you left off when you have a few minutes to spare. Robin Jones Gunn tells a story about her life or others and then Cindy Hannan follows up with relating Bible verses and questions to answer. Then there is a place to write down your responses to the questions and your thoughts on the story. After that, there are quotes and sometimes “Sisterchickin suggestions” that relate to the chapter.
I am glad I requested this book from Multnomah’s Blogging for Books program. I will continue to use this devotional whenever I need encouragement. I will also look for the Sisterchicks books, and try to read them.

I got this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

I've read many, many devotionals and they all seem to follow the same makeup. Example: Daily Bible reading a few words and maybe a paragraph or two. It’s not a bad thing, but after a while it can get a little boring.
I have had the pleasure of reading/reviewing this Devotional and it was NOT like most.
It will deepen your walk with the Lord on a daily basis and gives strength to ones prayer life. You will find beautiful Scripture for every life experience, plenty of wisdom, and of course a beautiful lifelong friendship with the Sisterchicks!
Highly recommend this Devotional Guide to all Women in every
walk of life.
I have enjoyed reading this devotional and was very happy to be given an opportunity to review it thanks to the WaterBrook Multnomah Blogging For Books program for providing me a copy for an honest review.
I pray Robin and Cindy will continue sharing and helping women to be all that our God wants them to be in HIM. In Jesus Name Amen.

I received a copy from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Company in exchange for an unbiased review.

I enjoy a good devotional as much as the next Christian, but oh what a journey in these pages! Robin and Cindy work together in such harmony to create inspiration through God's word and experience.

Here's what to expect: Robin will start a section with a story of grace, Cindy then summarizes while seeking out the deeper meaning of 'what did we learn from the story class?' There are three scriptures to look up and correlate to the text, with room to write down your own thoughts. At the end of each section are inspirational quotes and suggestions for a fun project for the week.

I appreciate the consistency throughout of the "sisterchicks" theme. Play-on-words, background images, and overall lightness help your heart & soul take wing through only 120 pages. I definitely recommend this one! Happy reading.

I love devotionals and this one was no different. I love Robin Jones Gunn too aka author of the sister chicks books, (SISTERCHICK® n.: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat. ) so that even made it that much more fun to read and enjoy.

I enjoy the part at the end of each chapter where you are given a topic and a bible verse to look up and read. Then your given an area in the back of that devotion for you to write down your thoughts on what you have just read in the devotion and in the bible, and how you can minister to others as you should anyway in my opinion.

If you like devotionals I think you will will like this Sister chicks devotional. I received a free copy of this book to read and review by WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group, for my honest unbiased opinion.

I read Take Flight! (Sisterchicks in the Word) in exchange for review from Blogging for Books. I received a hardback for review.

I been reading Take Flight for a few weeks. The book is very inspirational. The book is a devotional. The first part of each section contains a devotional, an exercise, a word of wisdom, and suggestions.

For example, the first chapter discusses Sunset Worship, written by Robin Jones Gunn. She discussed how she saw a beautiful sunset and felt inclined to worship and praise God, but did not. Gunn also discussed how her daughter is not ashamed to worship and praise God. "Come, Crinkle, Curl, Splash. (p. 15).

The book is a great read and good for personal bible study.

A devotional written by Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannan based on Gunn's popular Sisterchicks Series. Gunn starts off each section with a short story relating to the theme and then Hannan wraps everything up with the theological portion. They included Bible verses, quotes from real life Sisterchicks, and quotes from the series itself. If you're a fan of the Sisterchick Series or just Robin Jones Gunn's writing in general and looking for a new devotional this is a good one to get.

I read this book as a review request from Blogging for Books using Adobe Digital on my laptop. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review in any way.

Robin Jones Gunn, bestselling author, wrote the Sisterchick Series and the Christy Miller Series. You can read the complete list of her books at her website here.

Take Flight includes fourteen devotions about grace to be all God intended us to be. Scripture, quotes, photographs, and encouragement to act interweave into the message. This volume does what devotionals do well, challenges.

The pages encourage in a gentle and loving way like meeting a friend for tea on a cool morning.

That to me is a welcome way to ‘do’ a devotional.

This book was not only inspirational for me but I can honestly say it was God's gift to me. I've read so many devos before but this one hit me in the most timely way. I read so much of the things that I needed to hear. It's such an amazing experience how God uses people to write stuffs like this and people read what God is actually telling them, comforting messages or promises, etc.

I got this book for free and with no bias do I say how fun and interesting my journey with this devo is :)
