She was going to be called “Big E” like her predecessors, though Eric Simmons didn’t know that. All he knew was what he could see, what he could hear, and what he could taste … and that was mostly fear. He could almost feel it oozing out of every pore, hard-spiked adrenaline on his tongue as he walked toward the big graving dock where they were building the ship. He was sweating even though it wasn’t particularly hot, his armpits soaked in the cool Virginia air. “I have to do this,” he whispered to himself. And he did. There were no other choices for him.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
So 18 books in, Out of the Box has to be running out of steam, right? There's no way Robert could keep coming up with compelling stories for our intrepid heroine for 18 books in a row, right?
Well I will admit, the new villain has elements of familiarity and shares a few traits with a certain villain from Girl in the Box, but things aren't quite what they appear and despite the borderline retreading of some ground it's kept fresh with plenty of twists, not that I'd expect anything less of Mr. Crane.
It's really nice to see Sienna with a non-agency ally who isn't out to get her or exploit her to their own ends, though predictably she takes a while to thaw and let herself trust someone after the nightmare with Rose. Our girl's been through a lot, and it's a seat-of-your-pants read as you try to fathom how she'll beat her latest foe with nothing but her succubus power, but beat the foe she does, and the massive overarching Revelen plotline is furthered in some very interesting ways.
Also, guys, I totally guessed who Sigourney Weaver is. :D
Please note that this review was posted in exchange for an advance reader copy of the book, but I have no other affiliation with Robert J. Crane besides that.
Book 28 in this series and one of my all time favourite yet. Now THAT is impressive. This also unlocked a new trope love: Road trips with people you hate. The banter. The exasperation. The growing to not hate them…but still say mean things so they don’t think you have gone soft. YESSSSSS
This books definitely made me feel all warm & fuzzy inside. To have the focus back on our girl & for her to be kicking butt instead of getting hers kicked was great! Not that I don't love the team but Sienna is my spirit animal lol. Y'all need this book! To read what our girl has been through & to have Robert be able to bring all of those emotions to light but not have to deal with it all alone is such a huge deal as a fan. I'm trying really hard to not spoil anything for y'all but that ending... Awww! If y'all don't get & read this book y'all need your head examined lol. Enjoy this y'all. I have a feeling the next one is going to be a heck of a fight!
I know that Hollywood has a penchant for reboots at the moment. (Take Spiderman, for example). And you could perhaps be forgiven for anticipating some of that approach to be sprinkled over this book like so much fairy dust, given what happened to Sienna in the Scottish Trilogy.
If that is what you are expecting; dreaming of; hoping for, then you may be disappointed. For while this is definitely not a reboot - this is something of a fresh start for our beloved, beleaguered, snarky heroine. After so long with the company in her head, she now has to remember who she is without them.
That on its own is a story. Add in some familiar faces, some new bad guys and some help from unexpected quarters and you have a tale that reminded me what the heart of these stories is:
Sienna.
At their core, just Sienna. Finding a way to deal with everything put in her way. With as much sarcasm as possible.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I thought Sienna was at her lowest before with Rose, but after Rose, she didn't fare much better. The hits and the villains just keep coming. The evolution of Sienna is filled with many twists and turns. Will she finally accept herself as she now is, powerless and weak? Will she rise above her self doubt and be the hero she always has been or will she continue to wallow in sadness and self doubt? You have to things in to the next episode to find out!
Robert Crane never disappoints. I have enjoyed Sienna ever since she came out of the box. The ride has kept me entertained ever since. Keep them coming!
So I’m back to being addicted to the Sienna Nealon saga. Sienna, now a shattered drunk, is drawn into a battle with some very tough enemies. To beat them she will have to come to terms with some terrible losses. After all she went through in earlier books, her grief is overwhelming. Author, Robert Crane, let her have her tears, and actually made me cry with her. To borrow from Sienna’s dialogue: Bastard! (And, btw, I do not forgive him for what he did to her in his previous books in the series known as the “Scotland Trilogy.”)
Will Sienna get her groove back? Will she survive battles with two super powerful villains, determined to harm her? In order to survive she will have to find herself again, use a lot humor, and get a little help from some unexpected allies.
The battles are exciting, creative, and entertaining. The characters are interesting and more well rounded than you’d expect from this genre. This isn’t Crane’s best work, but it is good. All in all, I enjoyed this installment in the series.
I'm done reading this series of books. I became fascinated with Sienna she was invincible, tough, and wise then she become a wreck add the worst and dullest character I've ever had to endure Reed. I actually skipped all of the chapters that were about Reed. They were very boring. Also Sienna became pathetic for way to long. Not worth continuing. I don't see her coming back as she was unstoppable and so so sure of herself. That only leaves me to not recommend this series to anyone, unfortunately I already had recommended it to 2 of my friends . I will check with them and suggest they don't start.
Hopefully they haven't started reading because the books start of amazing and then nothing. Get rid of Reed. Sienna doesn't need to be sad for ever. Make her what she's suppose to be. "The most powerful meta in the world"
Given the events of the previous book with the evil Rose pulling our Sienna apart almost to the point of no return. This book shows the aftermath and grieving for a life lost. Situations previously dealt with in sort order now becoming insurmountable, putting supporting (and favorite) characters in definite harms way.... Reading another's review of this book who described it a reboot, I can kind of see what they mean, but given there is a fair amount of follow on from before I think its less of a reboot and more of a soft reset leaving certain things in place. Really missing Wolfe and co swimming around in the recess of her mind palace to give aid and acid advice when (and not) needed. This book gave time to catch our breath from Scotland, moving the story on, with more villains lurking in the shadows to cause certain havoc. Bring it on .....

Robert is my favorite author.... If you haven’t read anything by him, you are definitely missing out.
Poor Sienna is perfectly happy drinking her days away when low & behold, unwanted company shows up knocking on her door. There’s a new bad guy in town with more super powers than anybody has been seen before. What’s worse is that he’s knocking around her friends and family. She watches helplessly not even knowing if they are alive or dead. He is hunting metas & hunting her but then again so is someone one else. Powerless & feeling sorry for herself since losing some of her memories, can she pull her self up & once again be the bada$$ everyone knows she is?
I missed the previous 17 (!) books in this series but it still was possible to put together the general framework of the story. Sienna Neilson is some kind of mega-superhero who used to head up an Avengers-like super team but got nearly killed and is now trying to fight her way back, with a little help from her friends. Most of this reads like a comic book, with lots of blow-by-blow descriptions of fights between the struggling Sienna and two new nemeses. It's well-written, with a lot of pop culture (mostly film) references, but it's about as deep as a wading pool, and the outcome is never really in doubt.
Like the rest in this series it keeps you wondering if Serena is going to find some respite in the world of super metahumans, I'm left wondering if she will get her powers back and if she will be recognised for the hero that she is, looking forward to see what Revelen is all about, and her relationship with Harry, about time she has some normality in her hectic life 😊
I thought this book was brilliant, Mr. Crane once again you've made me laugh, cringe, cry and cheer because Sienna is back! More bashed, more self aware and more I touch with herself and the world around her than ever before. I love it. Thank you! Can't wait for Time xx
After everything Sienna's been through in the last three books, it doesn't surprise me that this book was more like an aftermath for the most part. While she dealt with new enemies, I definitely got the feeling that this book was mainly gonna b how Sienna adjusts to her new lifestyle. Still, seeing her slowly regain her confidence and find herself again makes me eager to see what happens next.
WOW! Great addition to the series. Sienna Nealon is almost all the way back. By stripping her back to the basics she is coming back with a vengeance. I can't wait to find out how she will deal with Revelon and the villains waiting for her there. I would recommend this book to any reader who likes a kickass read with a lot of witty repartee thrown into the mix.
Is it April yet? How am I going to last five weeks until the next book is released. The world and his wife are after Sienna, and she is alone, very alone and empty. She needs more than the help of the one person she is reluctantly relying on. She needs her brother, her team and more than ever, her souls
A meta-human is attacking and challenging Sienna's friends to see if he is more powerful. Harry Graves helps predict the best moves to take down this "Predator" and also a military "Terminator" . I did get annoyed that she blew her cover to relay a common sense message to Reed when there were other ways of making contact. Other than that, it was good. I really enjoyed her and Harry.
Spoiler alert! I really enjoyed this book and even though my initial title for my review didn’t take place till the very end, I must say that Harry Graves is one fine character. This was a nice change from the intense previous books. And a very fitting end.
Was tired of the Scotland Sienna. The broken down, drunk, and just plain old lame (metahuman) that she was. Understand she lost her souls but she was a bad was before she got them. So glad that she started to remember who is is.
This was not as satisfying as some of the previous books but it still left a lot of questions unanswered. I hope Sienna is able to regain some of her previous powers and more. Look forward to the next one.
Does this man ever take a break? I can never seem to catch up. This book was OK. Sienna dealt with a couple of bad guys and now is in the calm before the storm.
I love this series. I also love that I don't have wait too long for the next book. What I don't like is all the typos. Seriously, does no one proofread these before publishing?
I can't believe we are already to book 18. I definitely could not put this one down. Another terrific adventure with Sienna. Loved Harry being on the scene.
I’m beginning to see the reason behind the interesting change of direction. I love the psych aspect of, well, people and this is an unique way to achieve the goal of recovering and insight.
