Stealing Runner's Heart

Rate this book
When she was a child, he was her hero. When she grew up, he was her dream.

Charlotte Rose has loved Runner Jeffries since she was five years old. Her best friend. Her protector. Her constant companion who left to become a Major League star.

Late-night phone calls. Texts about nothing. He hasn't gone a week without her voice in his ear since he was thirteen. He has no idea she's been building a life with him in her head, brick by brick, the whole time.

Charlotte is now a Cornell-educated attorney with a coveted position waiting in New York, ready for Runner to see the woman she's become. When he comes home to their small Colorado town with a fiancée, a woman he's never mentioned, her future collapses.

But she's not the girl he left behind. When she tells him she's fallen in love, something dark and unfamiliar uncurls in his chest. He demands a name, desperate to know who has stolen his Firefly.

As they say goodbye, she leans in and gives him four words.

"Look in the mirror."

Back in New York, Runner can think of nothing else. The Firefly he was supposed to protect is the woman he can't stop dreaming of. He's engaged to someone he doesn't love. And the only one he can see is the one he was never supposed to want.

To win her, he'll have to burn down the life he came home with.

By day, Mimi Foster is an award-winning Realtor helping people find their dream homes in beautiful Colorado Springs. By the quiet light of early mornings, she slips into another world, writing steamy, emotional romances where love always wins.

A fifth-generation Floridian who has called Colorado home for more than fifty years, Mimi writes contemporary and historical romance set in a world that keeps growing. Her Thunder on the Mountain trilogy and Leaving the Game series share a Colorado mountain, a connected family, and an evolving love story that spans generations — from the 1890s gold rush all the way to a present-day Major League pitcher hiding from his own grief.

Her standalone, Maisy's Mirror, is a tender ghost love story set on the coast of Maine, the one book that lives outside the universe and remains a reader favorite.

Mimi started writing in 2013, then life arrived in the form of a year of chemo, a global pandemic, a house fire, a tree through the roof, the loss of beloved family members, and what she affectionately calls The Unicorn Years, when her real estate business took off in never-before-seen ways and she barely came up for air. She set her pen down for a while.

When she came back to it, she rewrote Stealing Runner's Heart, gave Maisy's Mirror the epilogue it always deserved, and finished In the Strike Zone. She's writing on purpose again.

Mimi is the proud mother of five daughters, grandmother to five grands, and a cherished friend to many, loved for her warmth, humor, and genuine heart. She and her husband share a relationship grounded in laughter, respect, and the kind of love that inspires her stories. She writes about people who have been broken and are learning to live again - because she's lived it.

When she isn't writing or helping clients find home, you'll find Mimi with her camera, surrounded by family, dreaming up her next love story.
She loves to hear from readers. Find her at MimiFosterBooks.com or on Facebook.

Forever. That’s how long she’s loved him.

From her earliest memory, Charlotte Rose has loved Runner Jeffries. If it was worth learning or doing, Runner showed her how. If something hurt or needed attention, he was there to fix, protect, and watch over her. Charlotte Rose dreamed of him as hers forever.

Never having thought of a future without him, Charlotte is determined to carve out a new life for herself. But before the final curtain falls, is it worth one more chance to go after what she truly wants before her dreams are extinguished forever?

I so enjoyed the story of Charlotte Rose and Runner! For us, the readers, it was like going home to Nederland and visiting family. We laughed along with them many times as they made it known they were on Charlotte Rose's side while she tried to get Runner to notice she had grown up and was ready to move on from being his childhood buddy. It just wasn't going to be that easy to get Runner to realize they were meant to be together. He had a fiancee, after all, and the fiancee didn't like her. Miss Foster took us on a fun ride with unexpected and emotional surprises. I loved this story!

Great contemporary romance full of heart tugs and plot twists. When Runner finally returns home, Charlotte is thrown for a loop to meet his fiancee. As she picks up the pieces of her dreams and begins to build a life without him in it, fate throws her a curve. The characters are well developed, full of emotions. The story moves quickly and will keep you turning pages late into the night. This is a wonderful story not to be missed!

I stayed up late to finish Stealing Runners Heart last night and have added it to my favorites. The problem with Mimi's books is that when I think I have a favorite the next one comes along and becomes another favorite. Stealing Runner's Heart is no exception. This is the first in another series by Mimi and I'm looking forward to the next book!
