ONE...First novel in a brand new cozy mystery series TWO... Great new holiday cozies by two well-loved authors THREE... fun full-length whodunits that will make you want to ignore the frost and snow outdoors and snuggle in with a thick blanket and a cup of sweet cocoa!
A Little Taste of Murder-–First in the NEW Brightwater Bay series-- A dead car, a vacation that’s really all about running away, and a guy face down on the steps to her rented cottage make Claire crave home. Even the promise of hopping a ferry for the beautiful San Juan Islands seems like an impossibility when everyone is trying to point fingers at each other. Right in the middle of it all, Miranda has to convince the tight-knit town that she’s not the murderer, even if the clues tell another, horrible story.
Cookies and Catastrophe--The 2nd Chance Diner is ready for Christmas! Rose has taken up knitting and has produced scarfs enough for half the town. The windows are painted with fake snow, the menu has added pumpkin and peppermint in all their forms. They’re even having a Christmas cookie bake-off. Things take a sinister turn when one of the bakers turns up dead. Was it the competition run amok? Was it some secret crime underbelly of Silver Falls? Maybe the gossip is off, and it was just a terrible accident? Rose decides that she won’t have another event at her diner ruined and decides to investigate. With the snarky Zee in tow, the two of them gossip their way through the murder while trying to avoid Rose’s budding romance—the detective who wants neither of them involved.
Winter Storms and Deadly Thorns--The year is 1901, and Katherine, a wealthy scion of a powerful Boston family has just buried her father. She is distraught, but her terror is only beginning when she learns that he was killed by those she thought she could trust. Now, she must wrest her life back from the brink of destruction with only the help from her failing grandfather and an orphaned houseboy. Will they succeed, or will her family’s legacy be irrevocably cast into shadow. Set within the Red Pine Falls cozy mystery series, this prequel explains the origin of the Morgan Family Treasure and the legend of Kat Morgan herself.
This is supposed to be a "Christmas Cozy" The first four chapters of the first story are about a widow who has hidden from the world for 18 months. Gets away spending the last of her savings for a nice vacation before she has to return and get a job to survive.
If anything can go wrong it does. Her car breaks down, she doesn't get to go to the island rental (and can't get a refund), then a recently released felon is found dead, literally on her doorstep. She has never been to the area before, but yet her phone number is in the dead guy's phone. Now she has to prove she's innocent as a stranger in a town where she literally knows no one.
This is an extremely depressing story, and as they normally chose similar stories in a box set, I choose not to read the rest of this book.
I want Christmas stories to be uplifting! with hope and humor! This DOES NOT qualify!
I enjoyed these 3 stories very much! Carolyn L. Dean’s Ravenwood Cove cozy mystery series is one of my very favorintes. Her story did not disappoint! I hope this story will become another cozy mystery series as I enjoyed the characters very much! I had never read anything by the other two authors before. The story by Angela C. Blackmore seems to have a “cliff hanger” ending. I hope to find out more about what happened to Katherine in another book of hers since this story is evidently a “prequel”. I enjoyed this third story, by Beth Byers very much and hope she has or will write more books about these characters.
I totally enjoyed the 1st book , but the 2nd & 3rd were somewhat lacking, it had excitement and mystery and love but what it lacked was a definitive ending , you didn’t know what really happened at the end of book 2 and the end of book 3 never said who was wearing the green hoodie and if Rose and Simon ever got together on a more permanent basis, and other than mentioning that it was the Christmas season in either of the 2 you never would have known . I enjoy reading books (especially cozy mysteries ) that involves Christmas but I found this series to be a disappointment
What a fun set of stories! The authors fit very well together and I especially enjoyed that the stories were set indifferent time periods. Winter Storms and Deadly Thorns sets us down in the middle of what seems to be a much longer tale but, is !ore than enough to set !e searching for the rest of the story. The other two are complete in themselves and enough to set me looking forward to reading more by the authors.
I found the first book to be poorly edited. The names of the characters kept changing and the heroine's emotions were all over the place. She used to be fun and outgoing but now shes not. Implications are made but not divulged. She lost a spouse? maybe? unsure. I quit reading after the fifth chapter as it was too difficult to follow. Book two was good but I really like book three the best.
This is a collection of 3 stories by 3 different authors. the first and second are complete cozy mysteries. Both are entertaining. the second is part 1 of 2. It's totally different and better than the other two. It takes place in today's world, but is hinged on a deeper story of betrayal and murder that took lace 100 years earlier. I look forward to the second half due out in January 2018.
I read the 2nd book first in this series and I like this book much better. The characters were excellent and I like the pace of the story. I like this new series and it is a lot of fun. I live in a small town so I could relate to this setting. Looking forward to book #3 in this series.
Really enjoyed each story (book) although I keep getting the two diner series mixed up. Really enjoyed hearing the prequel for Red Pine Falls, was familiar because I've read the books and am waiting for the next. When I realized this was the second book for Rose and the 2nd Chance diner, found the first book and read it first. And finally am enjoying the new Brightwater Bay series...
Out of the three stores I was very disappointed with the second one. I felt like I missed the whole first part of the story. Plus that story just ended. The first story I had read previously and enjoyed very much. The third story wasn't to bad but I did feel like I was missing parts of the characters life stories.
The first story I enjoyed. I want to read more if this is a series. The second story became boring and was a story within a story. So it really did not work as a stand-alone. The third story was meh- and whoever edited it did a very poor job. I am finding that to be the case more and more often. ARe publishers really short of people to edit?
I liked books 1 and 3, but book 2 was a little slow starting. It finally got better towards the middle even though I was still a little bit confused about how it tied into the beginning of the book. I finally figured it out almost at the end. All 3 books were very good and I do recommend this collection for good reading.
Three great stories about strong women and murder. Angela did a great job letting us know the reason the Senator is so bad and the early years of Kat Morgan. All three books are winners
I enjoyed all three of the mysteries. I found two new authors that I will add to my list as well as a back story for one of my favorite authors, Angela Blackmore.
Three holiday-themed murder mysteries, all engaging and well written. These are parts of series that were worth checking out. All take place in the Pacific Northwest, a lovely part of the country.
Three talented cozy authors used make this a fun way to spend some time. I loved all the tales, they varied but for that fact that they free me in and let me reading.
This collection of three Christmas stories is perfect for the holidays. All by three different authors. If you like holiday cozy murders this is a must read.
