Rate this book
Every move she makes . . .

Tanner Jones is on a mission. One with more at stake than simply proving she’s worthy of heading up the revenge-for-hire company, Dirty Deeds. The last thing she needs is a babysitter, especially when it comes to the overbearing, broody Detective Ben Archer. Not while she’s busy getting up close and personal with Casper Addison, the third—and hottest—member of the original Dirty Deeds team. He’s promised to help her take down Chicago’s biggest gun runner. That is, if Ben doesn’t succeed in taking her down first. . . .

He’ll be watching her . . .

The minute Tanner Jones starts warming up to Casper Addison, the sexy minx becomes Ben’s top priority. And not just because Ben can’t bear the thought of the stubborn beauty cozying up with a dangerous viper whose story has more holes than the scars riddling Ben’s body. But just as the savvy detective discovers the damning evidence, he’s kidnapped. And once Tanner comes to his rescue, Ben has all the proof he needs that Tanner’s the one woman who can help him destroy the monster who haunts his past—and the only woman for him. . . .

Another thrilling episode of this engaging and unique series!!

I recommend you read “Dirty Deeds” and “Dirty Little Secrets” first, not because you will necessarily be “lost” but because they are such a great books and will add you your enjoyment of this one; and you will definitely enjoy this one. Once again we delve into the lives of those who were “rescued” and trained by Malcolm. The “missing” member of this trio is Casper Addison who makes his appearance after an absence of 10 years.

Tanner Jones is training to become a member of the Dirty Deeds team. Broody and overbearing Detective Ben Archer seems to block her at every turn, so she accepts the offer of help from “Addy”. Ben has rules against becoming involved with those younger than him, working with him, and everything else that describes Tanner. But as he is so directly told:
“Any man here can see Tanner’s a complete knock-out. Even me, Ben. She’s smart, driven,
trust worthy. Anyone who’s ever met her can tell she’s got a good heart.” He shrugged. “I guess
the only question left is who gets to be the lucky guy.

Intricate, dangerous, thrilling and impactful story of struggle and love. A remarkable read. I can’t wait for more!!

Just for the record: Ben Archer is mine.

This man is perfectly wounded. I bawled my face off before Ben’s story was even introduced! AJ Nuest sets the tension early—I knew the heartbreak was coming—and even though she gave me a million reasons to turn away, I couldn’t. I wanted to swan dive into that pool of hurt. And when NDP wants something, she gets it.

I latched on to Ben like a greedy parasite. I sank into his story until my eardrums popped from his hydrostatic pressure.

I. LOVED. EVERY. SECOND.

Down and Dirty is the third standalone novel in the A Like Story Series, and I have to say…it’s my favorite. I didn’t think anyone could compare to Detective Riordan from Dirty Deeds (A Likely Story, 1) but err meer guurd AJ knows how to sculpt an impeccable romance.

"…the second she’d read the heartache in his eyes, she’d known the repeated loss of those he’d loved had turned him into the distant, irritable man he’d become."

Le sigh.

Oh right!! The plot!

Tanner is a BALLER. All of AJ Nuest’s heroines are strong-willed, know what they want and work hard to get it. I became Tanner. I walked in her footsteps as she tried to prove her worth in the world of revenge.

Ben Ben the dreamy steamboat is eventually compelled to ride all over our ambitious Tanner, but he’s not the only man in the mix…

"Jealous? A sputter left his lips. Hardly. He couldn’t be jealous of something he’d decided a long time ago he’d be better off without, and he wasn’t about to sit here at zero dark thirty and lay out the reasons why in a bunch of stupid texts."

Tanner seems to be cozying up to this “other man,” but she has to make a choice—she doesn’t know it at the time—and both of these men have serious risks. I say she should just choose the other guy so I can keep Ben to myself. In a world of revenge, you never know when a girl might lose her head…

I’ll keep my fingers crossed. 😉

But then Ben gets kidnapped and Tanner freaking has to save him!

AJ Nuest, only you can make role reversal so spicy. The rake in distress. I loved that Ben was kidnapped! Heck, I should have thought of it myself! Not only is Tanner conflicted by her emotions, but a duty. Tanner absolutely mixes business with pleasure and it not only puts her heart at risk but Ben’s…and I don’t want Ben to suffer any more than he already has!

Tanner and Ben begin their journey with hate. They can’t even speak to each other, let alone work together. But they slowly begin to understand one another.

"For the first time since the day they’d met, they were actually communicating without being stuck in the midst of an all-out war. No, not face-to-face, but at least they were having a conversation."

What’s the nerdy detective equivalent to sexting? Radio-ing? #Naughty

Ok…this particular scene is nothing like that (LOLZ), but I totally envisioned this while reading! There was one plot in front of me, and then a separate one projected on my mind—two different movie reels playing simultaneously, inevitably merging together at the end.

Again. Only AJ Nuest.

This is a game of reverse baseball: three strikes, you’re IN. Down and Dirty (A Likely Story, 3) is addictive and downright phenomenal.

I was honored to read and review this as an ARC. AJ Nuest blew me away with Tanner and Ben's story. The action and danger kept me on the edge of my seat. The attraction and tension between these two had me biting my nails. but the revelation of "why" between these characters shredded my heart then put it back together. I loved each book in this series but this was over all my fave. AJ Nuest delivered a stellar story that had me glued to turning each page. Although they all found their HEA in this series I'm almost sad it over. I highly recommend this and all the books in this series.

DOWN & DIRTY has raised the bar for romantic suspense, ending the Dirty Deeds series on a high that will be what this reader judges the genre by for decades to come. This gritty, fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat offering by author, AJ Nuest, is a brilliant example of the excellence in feel-good entertainment available between the covers (pun intended!).

Former Ranger turned cop, Ben Archer, is practically shut down by the grief he's experienced. When one look at Tanner Jones, revenge-for-hire's newest operative, starts to bring him back to life, he's reluctant, confused and angry. Sparks fly -- and not only the good kind. These two about wore me out emotionally with their battles -- but it was totally worth it as they finally saw their way clear to reach for their HEA.

Down & Dirty is the mother lode of hot, sexy suspense. There aren't enough stars here to do the review process justice.

True to form, this amazing author had me jumping through hoops trying to guess the outcome of this tale. As usual, these characters spring to life immediately and my stomach twisted for want of a HEA for Tanner and Ben. Readers in search of gripping tales that grab your attention quickly and hurtle you up and down emotional rollercoaster, grab this series! Love the talented writing with this conclusion, yet I feel the sadness knowing this marks the end of this series.

I've clearly been living under a rock because I just realized last week that this third book in the series had been released and I had missed it! I snatched it right up via KU and read the heck out of it. Of course, I had to reread the first two books first so that I got the full effect, and that was certainly no hardship. Xander and Charlie from the second book are still my favorites (actually, they are two of my all-time-favorite characters ever), but I was so excited to read Ben and Tanner's story, and it did not disappoint. All the previous characters, plus a couple of new ones, are back for this fast-paced story that kept me riveted.

Potential Spoiler Alert: When I first started reading, I thought a love triangle was going to play a prominent role in this one, and I was doing some serious internal cringing because I hate stories with love triangles. I usually won't read a book if I even get a whiff of a love triangle, but because I love this series and Ms. Nuest's writing, I gave it a minute to see what would happen. Luckily, that nonsense dissolved pretty darn quick and I was able to read the rest of the story in peace.

I have no clue if this is the end of the series or if more are to come, but I hope this isn't the last we've seen of the Dirty Deeds group. Even though she isn't officially part of Dirty Deeds, I'm really hoping Molly gets a story of her own.

I was fortunate to win a copy of this book and what a win it was! Ms. Nuest does not disappoint with this one. If you like hot, broody alpha males and kick-butt females, this is the book for you. The action was tense and fast paced and I was wrung out emotionally by the time Ben and Tanner got their HEA. I'm well aware that a HEA is pretty much a given in romance, however, any writer who can keep me from figuring out exactly how that HEA is going to come about before I get to the end of the story, is well worth my reading time. Thanks for a great read. Keep it up Ms. Nuest.

I highly recommend reading this book. But beware once you start it you won't be able to put it down.
It has a very sexy hot alpha male and he butts head with a equally hot and sexy alpha females. There is also lots of danger and intrigue...bad guys verus good guys, mystery and hot steamy love.

Masterful

Tanner and Ben had a toxic relationship since they met while attempting to learn who was after her boss Eden. And though they have had to work together on several occasions their feelings have not changed. While working together to find the people who murdered Trey's parents they discover that there is indeed a thin line between love and hate.

WONDERFUL STORY!

I really enjoyed this book! The plot was convoluted and riveting! One thing I have noticed in all of the books in this series is that you have to pay very close attention when you are reading them to keep up with the story because the characters are complex and the storylines have lots of twists and turns! I loved the epilogue of this book and any other reader will too! It was the perfect ending!!!!😊 I hope there will be more in this series!!!!

Fabulous series

AJ Nuest has done it again. Great read!!! Not only does this book have a hot alpha male, but a hell of an alpha female. Great love story to go with the sixpence. I truly love everything AJ writes.

Ummm…Wow? Again, I’ve reached the end of a book in the Dirty Deeds series and I am blown away and left speechless. We’ve been watching Ben and Tanner dance around their attraction to one another and now we finally get to see all those combustible emotions break the surface. For as much as I loved Kelly, Ben was already well on his way to being my favorite all the way back in that first book. Getting the chance to see what’s going on behind the stoic mask he wears just cemented the position for me. Hero in uniform? Check. Brooding, wounded warrior? Check, check. Sexy protective alpha? Oh my stars, check! Tanner’s a little like that annoying teenaged sister that you want to tie up and lock in her closet but because she’s family you love her anyway and would give your life to make sure she never gets hurt. Yeah, like that. The sparks between Ben and Tanner sizzle off the page. And the tangled web of deceptions around them sucked me into the story. I couldn’t put this book down until I knew how it all would turn out. Now, I’m nowhere near ready to say goodbye to this band of misfits. I want more Dirty Deeds!
