In this eclectic assortment of flash fiction, Bram Stoker Award-winner Norman Prentiss concocts a different end-of-the-world scenario for each calendar day (Volume 1 covers January through March). The stories range from humorous to bizarre to unsettling, commemorating holiday and observance days (New Year's or Valentine's Day, National Pig Day), famous birthdays (Robert Frost, Charles Dickens), or notable historical events (the first computer...and the first computer virus). Other daily entries include a riff on the first (and only) golf game on the moon; and "The Milking of Elm Farm Ollie," which reinvigorates an in-flight publicity stunt by adding apocalyptic results.
Volume 1 includes more than 40,000 words of doomsday fiction, ready to be sampled in small doses just like the pages of those desk calendars you buy for 50%-off in February...or available all at once for your immediate binge-reading pleasure!
Finished Volume 1 (A bit late, running behind for next volume), and have been amazed how great these short pieces of fiction are, one per day one new end of the world per day. Sometimes frightening, often times hilarious. I am humbled seeing how consistently good and entertaining these are. Highly, highly recommend this collection for your daily reading pleasure. Every story through the end of the volume. Pretty impressive
I breezed through this book enjoying all the different stories, which made me wonder if some of them would be continued just to end my suffering. Great read!
Not every story is great, and they are super short, more like story starters, but it is a great way to make sure I read every day, even if only for a few minutes. These stories remind me of stories that I come up with....I come up with a great beginning to a story, but don't have anything after that. Definitely enjoyable though!
It had some cool shorts that I enjoyed reading. Short antidotes for each day about the apocalypse That are well written. I received this free but plan on looking into more from this author.
I just finished reading a very different type of book by one of my very favorite authors. Not all that it appears to be, THE APOCALYPSE A DAY DESK CALENDAR by Norman Prentiss is very much a daily blog where-in the world ends, but also contains much more humor than Norm is accustomed to writing. From short flash fiction to longer 1000 word pieces, there is a new end to the world daily. There are also welcome tidbits from OTHER FATHER, DR SIBLEY, and HAUNTED HOUSE.
I've read the first volume and admit to choking up at the end. I can't wait until the other volumes are finished and published. It's available for pre-order now. Don't wait to buy it, gift it, enjoy!
