The unhealthy icky behavior is back again

I think that shoe horning in the alternate love interest just needlessly complicated the story. While it did give enough of a background to make the main love interest not so icky having the other childhood friend show up and review his traumatic backstory in such a dramatic way just puts a spin on the main love interest as being domineering and unhealthy in his obsession. I'm not sure how I feel overall anymore. But, it does keep you reading for sure.
