The Zone is a historical novel set in 1937 Nanjing during the infamous Rape of Nanking (now Nanjing). Two families struggle to survive the atrocities inside the International Safety Zone set up by westerners who refused to leave China. They constantly face death from the Japanese Army who brutally murder innocent civilians and rape women on a mass scale.
Jada Tan Rufo is a former English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher who spent fourteen years teaching in China. She is the author of Banana Girl: An Asian American Woman's Life in China, a memoir that takes place in a single school year in a small town in China. Her new book, The Zone, is a historical novel that takes place in 1937 Nanking, now Nanjing during the period now known as the Rape of Nanking.
