Leveraging the creative flow is the objective of the Fat Outline Method. This book continues the examination of the FO from the basic book, allowing the reader to further tune and empower their storytelling.
Another really quick read and, again, to the point.
Key takeaways to add to your outlining process:
* Include character reveals through physical descriptions and tells * Pace the number of physical descriptions and tells throughout your outline.
Interesting note: If the character reveals decrease as the series continues, the reader becomes less satisfied. I think that this somewhat depends on whether the genre is character-focused. For example, thrillers and mysteries are less so and would suffer less reader attrition as opposed to romance.
This book with the first one was for me very important book. A new way to approach writing. It gave me a way to analyze my writing with new perspective . It is a method not build for everyone. It doesn't give you answers until you do the work . Waiting for next one.
While in the first book, I found some useful nuts and bolts to use in my outlining process, this book was just meh. It read very difficult and I couldn't really see the usefulness of incorporating how many character traits you reveal in each scene/chapter. Safe to say, this 2nd installment just wasn't for me.
