Two years ago, perfect Ada Cosgrove made one mistake—and narrowly escaped with her life. Gorgeous, clever, and the editor of the sexiest magazine on the racks, she dealt with it in her usual efficient, solitary manner—then carried on as she always had. Working hard, following the rules, and winning at everything she turned her hand to. Mistakes weren’t part of her identity, and she didn’t care to linger on—or share—the nightmarish details. Except now, threatening letters start appearing. Someone knows something they shouldn’t. And in trying to work out if she’s in danger, Ada is forced to relive that night and question everything she’s worked so hard for. Did she really leave the menace behind her that night? Trying desperately to understand her past, she unearths more secrets than she bargained for…but they just might be the truths she needs to save herself.
A dark, sexy suspense that has it all—complex characters, family drama, scorching sex and endless intrigue. “It's rare to read a romance that does intrigue so well and has such unforeseen plot twists.” *Please note this novel contains dark themes, multiple POVs and timeframes, and some mild taboo content. 18+.
We meet Ada following her break up from Ben, a secret break up from a ongoing on secret somewhat taboo relationship. Ada is a perfectionist, she sets limits and goals and strives to achieve and hit those goals within her life. She is a workaholic who cannot and will not rest...because she enjoys her work, using it as a coping mechanism and finding comfort is being busy... hiding behind the reasons why she feels the need for perfection in her life.
Ok ok ok... I'm gonna hold my hands up and be honest...As if Bubbles The Book Pimp could be anything else....but...I'm not normally a fan of Romantic Suspense 😱😱😱😱 BUT...And this is the first book I've read by this author....I really really really enjoyed this book!
This was a wholly original book for me...I enjoyed the concept and although Ada at times was not the most likeable character, but as her story was slowly revealed I found myself liking and understanding her more. I found her intriguing and myself fully engrossed in her past.
Ben is Ada's total opposite. A kind, warm and emotive soul who balances out Ada's frosty exterior.... his character was a great at exposing the fun and carefree side to her character. Their scenes and interactions together were beautifully constructed and filled with chemistry and passion. 🔥🔥🔥
With a time line the jumps between the past and present, it's a story about the learnt behaviours and self imposed rules, we as humans put on ourselves to protect us from the past traumas. How we can learn and work to overcome those traumas when we realise we may not be the only ones hurting.
I will be looking into further reads by this author.
🌏 Ada does some soul searching: is being perfect really the way to happiness?!😕 August 30, 2018 👍4 and a bit stars 💕 Interesting psychological drama set in the magazine 📖publishing world in 🌆 Melbourne, Australia, with lots of angst, unresolved family issues and 🔥passion. The plot hooked me and provided some unexpected twists along the way as it dealt with an emotionally distant parent, mysterious (possibly stalker) letters, a secret affair between stepsiblings and a heroine who tries to defeat feelings that she's not good enough by constantly pushing herself and her staff to achieve perfection. Heroine Ada had so many issues that it was hard for me to warm up to her, but I really liked Ben, her stepbrother, and their on again, off again hush-hush romantic relationship, though I did find it a bit unrealistic that Ben let it go on for so long.
The book is well-written but I found the frequent back and forth changes from past to present a bit distracting. The author kept the dramatic tension high by only revealing the full story of Ada's disastrous relationship with ex-boyfriend Kingston in small doses, and by keeping the reader guessing as to the origin of the cryptic, unsigned and vaguely threatening letters Ada keeps receiving. The cast of characters is nicely limited to family, a few office colleagues and Ada's "big mistake" ex Kingston. The story definitely kept my attention from start to finish. I did think the last intimate scene between the leads was steamy for sure but awkwardly placed.
I would read this author again.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Great story, complex characters whose emotions will seep into your own, infuriating yet pretty great.
I wish I was warned it was a step-romance, I don’t read them, it’s not mentioned on the blurb or anywhere except in the story. That was the major downfall for this book for me along with, to me, an unfinished story. We still don’t know for definite who wrote those letters, only the characters’ speculations. That was disappointing as that was a very gripping party of the story.
I’m sure if Ada was a real person, I wouldn’t like her or be even remotely friends with her. She’s quite unapproachable, unattainable and quite bratty. Ben was her polar opposite in every single way, he’s laid-back, down to earth and incredibly attentive. I’m guessing he’s hot but there wasn’t much of a description on him.
The authors writing style was amazing, gritty and emotionally charged. I’d love to read more from this author in the future.
Overall, the story was great, though unfinished, and the characters were definitely interesting to read about.
I voluntarily read an arc of this book for a fair and honest review. From the moment Ben said the word “perfect” I felt like an invisible string was pulling me toward my kindle. I kinda fell in love. Ada and Ben are/were lovers who are friends. His father married her mother when they were both teenagers. Let me say here that I, for one, love a mature heroine, I loved that Ada was older, well established is her career and ran her magazine like a fine Swiss watch. At work Ada is boss, in her personal life she has a lot of mama drama as well as an overbearing sister. Ada knows if her mother found out about her relationship with Ben, her mother would explode. So after the prologue the book begins with Ada and Ben broken up. They can’t avoid each other...the fare “family.” Both Ada and Ben run magazines...Ada runs hers like a sleek super yacht and Ben is more of a sailboat skipper. Ben when 14 when his dad married Ada’s mother. By 15 Ben was in love with his step sister by 18 he and Ada stepped into the sex zone. And it was all Ada’s idea. The conflict in this story emanates from a threatening, stalking ex of Ada’s, Kingston. Or maybe not. Ada couldn’t be sure. Letters and emails arrive..Ada doesn’t take this seriously but her mother and older sister Chloe are constantly badgering her to do something about. When Ben learns of this situation he freaks and goes into protection mode. Perfect is a very satisfying read. The character development and pacing is on point. I rooted for Ben from when he said “perfect” until the very abrupt end of this book.
Perfect by Fen Wilde is a complex story between step siblings. Ben and Ada’s parents married when they were both in their teens. Naturally they were in each others lives and when friendship and familial bonds became more, so did they. This story is told mostly in dual POV and goes back and forth in time to show the development of their on/off relationship. There’s so suspense due to mysterious threatening letters that need solving, a stalker from Ada’s past along with conflict with their family and some truly hot scenes. I would have preferred to have the story finish on a better note than it did, but overall I good, tense and sexy read that I enjoyed. The characters had their flaws and good points. It wasn’t sure of Ada to begin with, but did warm up to her in the end. I loved Ben and his attitude from the start. He’s sweet and soulful but with a side of protective alpha. Well worth a read.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I thought it was good. It took me a little while to get into but I'm glad I kept reading. I liked the storyline, the suspense, and the relationship between Ada and Ben. The reason for three instead of four stars, for me, is because it read kind of choppy. There were two point of views, which I do like in a story, and three different time periods. I had to really be paying attention to my reading so I didn't get lost. As I said, I did like the storyline, so I would definitely like to check out something else by this author to see if the writing is any different. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
This was a complex story surrounding Ada, a compulsive perfectionist, and Ben, her childhood love and stepbrother. I enjoyed the thrilling story, but I found Chloe almost a bit too much throughout a lot of the book, though I liked her more in the end. The mystery element in Perfect had me guessing, but I think in the end it was left open ended, which left me a little dissatisfied. But the chemistry between Ben and Ada was pretty hot, and I wouldn't have minded seeing them get to explore things even further. There was a lot of flashback and present alternation, which was a little hard to follow, but I was able to keep up, and I enjoyed this steamy read.
What an interesting read! Well presented storyline; characters that kept you guessing; some creepy twists and turns with lots of the unexpected. Although the story moved very slow in places—and the switching back and forth from current to past to way in the past—was annoying to me, it had a kickass ending for Ada and Ben. If you like books a bit off kilter...Perfect by Fen Wilde belongs on your TBR Lust. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and found it intriguing.)
I read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This amazing book is so very well written. It is always surprising the things that a person can withstand and the heart can cope with. You are stronger than you think you are. Each of the characters had issues that needed to be dealt with before they truly could move on. My heart broke for Janey surprisingly. I knew Ada was strong enough to cope.
Ben and Ada's story is complex with characters that come from a complicated situation. They are in each other's lives but they become more important as far as sex/feelings goes. There is so much to this book. Stalking, problems with the ex, some suspense, Ben getting protective over ADA. I enjoyed this book, it kept me entertained. Ada and Ben have sparks, you can feel it when reading it. In the beginning, I was actually not connecting with Ada but then that changed, and I actually liked her character as the story went on.
This book appeared in my email as a “daily special” for $2.99 so I thought why not, going into it I haven’t heard anything about this book and haven’t heard of the author. The story line was good, and I liked how it went back and forth between the 2 leads, and the flash backs made the whole picture more clear on their lives. I’d read this author again.
This was the first book I've read from this author and it was pretty interesting. Of course, I'm a sucker for step sibling romances, but this one was completely different from what I normally read and not what I expected. There was suspense, angst, romance and more. Pretty good read and I absolutely adore Ben.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Perfect starts out with the aftermath of Ada breaking up with Ben, though they are Perfect for each other. He can't understand it, refuses to accept it, and will not give up on her. Ada is a wound up, perfectionist heroine that is very stubborn throughout this story, and I'm not going to lie, she drove me up the wall quite a bit. I believe she truly wanted to be with Ben, but her desire to be good enough in her mother's eyes really hurt her in life, as she hid behind work, and came off as an ice queen. Ben, on the other hand, I loved from the beginning, as he was just perfect, and his interactions with Ada, tended to thaw her out. The story went back & forth between past & present so I was able to understand Ada so much more with her past revealed. There was of course some serious twists added in, for which I had to add some f-bomb dropping while I read this story, along with the cast of secondaries, with which some came off really sketchy at times. Fen Wilde is a new to me author with a talented writing style that I really enjoyed, so I will be reading again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Perfect By Fen Wilde 4 stars Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Book Blog
So overall I enjoyed this book. There is a taboo subject running through it but it isn’t one that particularly bothers me. I think the author did a great job with the whole story and I enjoyed that it was written from dual point of views – it really helps me understand both of the characters, their thoughts and their feelings. The story does go back and forth in time but I found it very easy to follow. There were some pretty good twists in the storyline and I liked the suspense that ran through it too. The characters weren’t instant likes for me however I grew to like them over the story, especially Ada. I felt like I really got to know her and could kind of see why she did what she did. Overall an enjoyable read and I hope to read more from this author in the future. A solid 4 stars!
This book was so well written with engaging characters and a storyline that flowed with so much tension, drama, suspense and intrigue from page one till the end.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a well written story, with complex characters and a complicated plot. Ada and Ben are total opposites, yet perfect together. Ada’s mother married Ben’s dad when they were teenagers. Add in the stalking, and this story had me intrigued and hooked throughout. The only down side, in my opinion, is that there were some unanswered questions at the end, so I hope there is a follow up novel!
I really liked this suspenseful read. The story really draws you in and has lots of twists and turns. Ben and Ada are great characters with lots of depth. The chemistry is steamy and the story intriguing. I good read.
Ada and Ben have been lovers for 20 years, they have hidden their relationship from their family. Ada doesnt think that her mother would approve of the step siblings being together. She has spent 37 years trying to get her moms approval but always seems to come second to her sister, who has the perfect family life to Ada's professional business life. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
Ben has wanted to be with Ada but she cannot handle what others will think. Ada loves Ben but being with him is so wrong to her. Their story is not easy but you can definitely feel the love. Add in issues from the past and I found this story interesting to read. It flips between the past and the present which was a little distracting. The story also ends with open questions so hopefully there is a follow up to the story.
4.5 Stars! Was completely hooked after a couple of chapters!
The very beginning was a bit confusing. Well, maybe I wasn’t understanding. There was critical information that I think was intentionally not disclosed until a few short chapters into the story. Once I realized why Ada felt she and Ben couldn’t be together, it all clicked into place. Honestly, I was quite riveted. There were secrets, stalkers, and sexy chemistry. I loved how Ada was a strong, independent business owner, but I wish she had stopped caring what her mom thought. Especially since her mom had never really been the caring mother. It angered me since Ben was so obviously the one person who would do anything for her. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This book is, as the title says, Perfect! I loved how this story is told in multi-POV's because it's so important for us to get the past and the present with Ada and Ben...there's a story to that and boy does it play a major role in their lives.
This book is told at a pace that is perfect for our H/h because the publishing world runs at a rapid pace even though they both have different ways of managing their teams, it doesn't stop them from engaging in some hot off the charts sex... there's no imagination needed while reading this book which I for one, was absolutely okay with!!
The ties that Ada and Ben have are complex and deep and when there's a threat to Ada, Ben takes on a new role, which just endears him to me that much more. This book has twists and turns I didn't see coming and almost a coming of age story because Ada has to make some decisions that will have a reverberating consequences! There isn't one thing I didn't like about this book and I'm so looking forward to reading more from Ms. Wilde!
I was lucky enough to read an early ARC of PERFECT and I love this author's writing. Loved Ada. She did what needed to be done. It could have even gone a bit darker and I would still have loved her. And Ben was HOT!
Smart, sexy, complex, and beautifully written. Wonderful characters that don't fit into the usual boxes. Definitely not a light, easy read, and different to your average romance - be prepared to pay attention. It's worth it.
—>>> Ada’s life is not perfect. She tries really hard to make it that way, especially at her work where she is the CEO of her own magazine, and she just cannot seem to relate to those around her. Her mother has mentally checked out of being a parent to her, and she does not get along with her one sister. The only item she can consider perfect is her back-and-forth, complicated, taboo, behind-closed-doors arrangement with her step brother, Ben. It’s hot, it’s what they both want, and they have already have the perfect system down in order to scratch their mutual itch. One overriding factor in her life, though, is the creepy correspondence she is receiving from what appears to be a stalker, and Ada might just have an answer for that but she is too afraid to bring it up, because her image will be tarnished.
While I cannot believe Ben’s patience for the past fifteen years, he is the only one who really understands and accepts her. Secrets always have a way of coming out, whether you are ready or not. Great read, with some good explanations towards their HEA.
As usual, Fen Wilde tells a fascinating story. This one is about Ada, a woman full of secrets and contradictions. Self-assured, driven, and an utter perfectionist in every aspect of her life, it's the last quality that nearly proves to be her undoing. It causes her to reject the man who's perfect for her in favor of one who looks perfect, but is far from it--so far in fact that she nearly loses her life.
I don't want to spoil the plot, so I won't say much more. There are a number of good twists, and Ada finally grows up and realizes that being perfect isn't all it's cracked up to be. I really liked the leads in the story and was glued to the pages all the way through, but I felt a bit cheated at the end. I wanted more closure on the central mystery--an answer is suggested, but not proved. And I also wanted Ada to come clean about her big secret to the man she loves. These two things niggled at me, but otherwise I really enjoyed the book, and I recommend it to anyone who likes their romances on the darker side.
Wilde takes risks with her writing and doesn't always take the easy way out, and I admire that. I look forward to whatever she writes next!
All Ada's life she thought she needed to be perfect to get the love from everyone mainly her mother. The only person who has always loved her has been Ben. Ben's Dad married Ada's mother. Ada always thought to be perfect she had to keep her feelings for Ben quiet. For years they keep their feelings under wraps. One day her world starts falling apart. Ben over heard something that makes him think Ada doesn't want him any more but it is the fastest thing from the truth. Well her world is falling apart, Ben's is being crushed. Ada gets a call that changes her world. It started with news from her sister then about Ben and the biggest is from her Mother. The details are to much of a spoiler which I'm not spoiling. Ada finally realized she doesn't need to be perfect after all.

I received this book through HG for free in exchange for an honest review...Ada is miss perfect, she is obsessed with being perfect and not letting her mother especially but everyone else know that she makes mistakes...one is Kingston who becomes an obsessive stalker. But Ada, has a big secret from everyone about Kingston and her love interest for years I'd controversial. Things spiral out of hand when mysterious letters start reappearing and her sister tells her that she told their mom her secret lover's identity 2 years ago. Alot of revelations come to light and makes Ada rethink everything in her life. I really wanted to know who wrote those letters for sure though but only hints. But Ada got a happy ending.

I received this ARC from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. This is the story of Ada and Ben, who are step siblings and have a secret romantic relationship dating back from their teenage years. The book changes perspectives mainly between Ben and Ada. The story is also told in flashback going back to the start of the relationship. The book looks at their relationship and how their situation might affect others in their life. There is also a bit of mystery surrounding who might know about their relationship and who is sending these notes to Ada. The notes then send us back three years to another lover Ada had and how he worked within their story. It was a bit of a strange story and I did not like the ending.
