It's not the first time a young woman's body has been found outside this small town. What's suspicious is why no one seems to care ... no one is scared .. no one questions the local police.
When the train makes a stop in Burdensville, Scott Sharp gets off looking for a restaurant or cafe .. somewhere he can grab a bite to eat before re-boarding. Finding what he's been looking for, he stops in only to find himself trying to protect a waitress from a very obviously drunk, resulting in punches being thrown.
When the Sheriff shows up, to Scott's amazement, it is he who winds up in handcuffs, and although there were plenty of witnesses, no one speaks up in his behalf.
This is not only a crime fiction featuring a serial killer, it also spotlights a small town harboring dark secrets. The town becomes a character all its own, skillfully drawn by this author. There are surprising changes with twists and turns and frequent changes of direction. Like watching an accident on the side of the road, it's hard to take your eyes away. It's riveting and will not fade from memory for a very long time.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this gritty crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
A great read, very fast paced! I felt like I was in the town of Burdensville, a part of the book. The characters were portrayed perfectly! The ending blew me away! Definitely a must read!!
Another great disturbing book by Mr Clarke how the heart can be torn between family or to his work !Think the cop and the killer both had metal health problems !
I definitely will give this story 5 stars because drama was great, follow up with the whole drama driveways excellent.I personal didn't like the Denise die, Scott ended alone again ,and the 2 brothers history is a repeat from the beginning of the story.but definitely good book to read.
Guess I am now what you might call an obsessed fan of RWK Clark's writings. What goes on in his macabre mind scares the daylights out of me. I not only see the words on the page but my minds eye sees each scene as if I was the proverbial fly on the wall. The genre is definitely not for the faint of heart, but I will say there will never be a dull moment.
S good enjoyable read. Great storyline with a few shocks. Enjoyed the back story and how it all flowed so fed worth a five star as kept me Guillermo how it was going to end. Definitely worth recommending.
This was the second of RWK Clark's books I have read, both of which seem to explore the theme of the abused child becoming an abusive adult. It was a fast paced thriller that may have stretched one's credulity at times but, that said, it was a satisfying read.
Man, talk about a rollercoaster ride. The author stated he was looking for a story like the town of "Mayberry without a shower" and that's exactly what we got. I was saddened by the ending but I wonder if it was a set up for a part 2. My first read by the author and it was smooth and compelling. I urge y'all to check it out. It will keep you hanging on until well after the end.
I really enjoyed this well paced horror/thriller. If anything this book could have been a bit longer and the ending left a possibility for a second book. It was an interesting read- and at no point boring- the pace was very good and kept me involved with the characters.
Oh my goodness what a terror this is. I was on pins and needles the whole time reading this. The authors wording with descriptions was spot on as I felt I was there watching, smelling and listening the entire time. This is a must read for everyone who needs a real thrill.
From the very opening pages of this book the action is red hot and it continues throughout. A real page turner from an author I'll be keeping an eye out for.
