Unmated Detyens die at thirty, so why is Kayleb NaMoren still alive? He came to Earth to find his mate, but on the eve of Kayleb's birthday, he knows that time is up. Heartfelt goodbyes and one final night with his brother are all he has left... until he wakes up the next morning, alive and unmated. Or so he thinks. An injury on his journey to Earth has left him with gaps in his memory, but he couldn't ever forget his denya. Could he?
She's escaped from pirates and is running out of time... Tessa Greely didn't leave her position as a medic on a space ship willingly. Sure, she wanted a change of scenery after a disastrous relationship, but captured by pirates to be sold into slavery was not her idea of a fun vacation. There's only one person she wants to see less than the pirates who are hunting her down: Kayleb NaMoren. Only problem? He might be the only guy who can keep her alive.
A second chance at a first impression... He doesn't remember her, but he'll do anything to save her. She wants him gone, but she can't run forever. Together, they just might find that they're all each other need.
Kayleb is the sixth book in the Mated to the Alien series. Detyens are doomed to die at the age of thirty if they don't find their fated mates in time. The series can be read in any order and there are no cliffhangers! Enjoy fated mates, steamy alphas, and plenty of space adventures.
Tomorrow Kayleb will turn 30. Normally a joyous event, but in Kayleb's case, it's a literal death sentence as unmated Detyen's die if they haven't bonded to their denyas (fated mate).
Uncertainty and suspicion arise when Kayleb wakes up alive on this birthday. A feat that shouldn't have happened but does. Could it be related to the amnesia he had following a head injury or is there another malevolent horror origin that would be a game changer for all remaining male Detyens.
Tessa survived an attack on her ship escaping to Earth though Space pirates continue to hunt her. The reason may be something she took as an insurance policy to use to bargain with in the event she was caught but it backfired as the space pirates don't care about her, just the package.
When she's finally cornered and all seems lost, Kayleb, a face from her past, arrives on the scene to save her. It seems that history isn't done with her yet as Kayleb then declares her his denyas though he had rejected her when they were a couple on the ship.
* * * This is the first installment I've read in the Mated To The Alien series. This might have been a factor in my not getting as into this story as I might have if I had read prior installments.
I was on the fence in feeling this was a 2.5 rating but in the end went for 3. The overall writing style was more on the lines of a chick lit format with interaction between the alien brothers tending to portray Earth siblings than brothers from another planet/another civilization. I know integrating into society is going to happen but I would have expected "more" Detyen to have come through.
While I'm not a fan of this installment/series, it may appeal to SciFi fans looking for an action-adventure romantic suspense with adult content thrown in.
Detyens have it tough. The few remaining members of this homeless species from a destroyed planet roam the galaxy in search of their denyas - their true mates. If not mated by age thirty, they die. Now, Detyens have hope, ever since Kayleb's cousin Ruwen found a human denya. The word got out, and Kayleb and his brother Krayter took their denya-hunt direct to Earth. It worked for Krayter, but Kayleb just has a chronic headache, memory loss from TBI, a mysterious obsession with red haired women, and no mate to save him. He makes his peace, says his goodbyes, and the night before his 30th birthday, goes to sleep for the last time. NOT!!! When he wakes up - very much alive, and thoroughly mystified - is when the fun begins. He's thirty and not dead, so he must (somehow, somewhere, some way) be mated! On with the search for the missing denya! Against all odds, he finds her - Tessa - and she knows him, and doesn't want a thing to do with him! But Detyens are a determined sort, and he's not giving up. It's hard, what with not recognizing her, not remembering their time together, and her all riled up about him leaving her... Finding a mate is hard - winning back the one you left is even harder. Kayleb vows to spend the rest of his life doing just that, and at the rate people keep trying to kidnap his mate, he won't have long. The meat in this story comes from the wild adventures Kayleb and Tessa have while they dodge interstellar pirates through Manhattan, and from the slow rebuild of trust as they work out what went wrong, and how to get their groove back. It's fast action, a veritable avalanche of narrow escapes from danger, and a slow burn romantic journey back the love Kayleb thought he's never have. Kate Rudolph does the feisty human heroine and the steadfast Detyan hero to perfection, with a dollop of humor and a side of sexy to make it hot and sweet. Crazy-good!! I want to thank the author for the ARC of Kayleb, and the above-expressed opinion is mine alone.
If not mated by 30, Detyens will die. Kayleb has come to Earth in search of his denya, when he is unable to find her by the eve of his 30th birthday he says his farewells to his friends. But what does it mean when he wakes the next morning. Has he found his mate and why can’t he remember her? This is a fast-paced read full of drama and suspense. I liked both Kaleb and Tessa and the story is fun with plenty of steam and action-packed. A good read.
Kayleb NaMoren is a Detyen. If he does not find his mate before his thirtieth birthday he will die. He left his planet with his brother and came to earth to find his mate. He has not found her so the night before his thirtieth birthday he spends the evening with his brother Krayten. The next day he will die. The following day he wakes up and he is surprised to still be alive. His brother is overjoyed. They wonder why he is still alive. Did he meet his mate and forget her? Kayleb thinks that is impossible. How could he forget meeting his fated mate? Tessa Greely is being pursued by space pirates. She is trying to hide from them on Earth. Kayleb has a feeling he needs to go somewhere. He follows his instincts and finds Tessa being chased by two men. He now realizes he has found his mate and he cannot let her go. He feels like he has met her before but he barely remembers her. Tessa does not want to have anything to do with him. Can he convince her they are meant to be together? Can he make up for what he did before? Kayleb and Tessa have some intense and steamy scenes together. They are hot together! This was a good book with a lot of intrigue and action. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kayleb is book 6 in this series, and though it would definitely be more enjoyable overall to be read in order, it can be read in any order. I actually read book 5, Krayter, first. Seeing as the two are so closely entwined, I'd say they are the worst to read out of order. So read Krayter first. ;)
Kaleb is much more serious than his little brother Krayter, and his book reflects that. Though he has a serious personality and is much less 'personable' than his younger brother, we still get to see the playfulness that is apparently a family trait. I really like Kaleb's overall character as he felt very fleshed out and balanced. Tessa was an interesting mix of knowledgeable, spunky, and impulsive. I liked her too, honestly. When I say spunky, I don't mean perky and bubbly, just so we're clear.
The story is an interesting addition to the series in that Kayleb has found and bonded with his mate prior to his book beginning. The catch being, due to a massive head injury that almost killed him in the time just before he and Krayter arrive on earth, he doesn't remember an entire week or his mate or being bonded. Obviously, this lends to a whole slew of problems all on it's own both with his mate and his life (he doesn't die at 30, which is a major shock to all involved). Roll in Tessa's boatload of problems and you've got a book full of action, redemption, muddled memories, steamy romance, and a smattering of appearances from previous acquaintances.
I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series, I have to say. Lighter than Cyborg, but darker than Krayter, so a nice balance. If you like alien romance with action adventure, this is totally a read for you. I look forward to more books from Mrs. Rudolph.
I hadn't read any other books from this series but I found the universe pretty easy to fall into and the romance a great core to the story.
The denya curse gives a connection between two people but it doesn't guarantee a relationship. In the case of Kayleb and Tessa, it didn't even guarantee memory. Kayleb suffered a head injury soon after finding out that Tessa was his mate and forgot her, leaving her behind to get captured by pirates. Now six months later, Kayleb is trying to figure out how he has survived his thirtieth birthday and why he has a hole in his life, while Tessa is on the run. When they meet up accidentally it gives them another chance, but still no guarantee.
It is hard to imagine forgetting someone so important but this is something that can happen in head injuries. If it did, it would be so hard to move forward after. For the one forgetting, the lack of knowledge could be painful and confusing. For the one forgotten it is like you were never important enough to be remembered. Though it isn't the fault of the one injured, it would be hard for the forgotten person not to blame the person who has forgotten. Despite it being no one's fault it is an unimaginably hard circumstance. Working back from this is a major relationship hurdle for Kayleb and Tessa, all amidst figuring out how to escape the pirates after them. It was a fast paced story with a fascinating romantic core.
Kayleb NaMoren spent what should have been his last hours with brother. But when he shocks everyone, no one more than himself, when he awakes the following morning, he is left with one question...WHY? He suffered a brain injury on his way to Earth. Is it possible he forgot his Denya?
Tessa was the medic on-board the ship with Kayleb. They...bonded and when he was injured she treated his injury. But he never remembered her. So much for being his one and only! When he left her behind she stored up a whole lot of resentment, hurt and animosity. When she was abducted by pirates she harboured plans to escape when the opportunity came. She grabbed some information to use as a bargaining chip in case they came after her. But there must be a tracking chip on it cos they keep finding her!
When she bumps into Kayleb again can she trust his aid or will he leave her high and dry again?
Brilliant read. I loved the fact that they had to get to know one another again, even though not under the best circumstances. Tessa may have loathed what he did to her but she finally understands that he didn't intentionally hide her from his family, he just didn't want t hurt his brother. We also get a chance to meet Penny and her scary mum again. I love that mercenary mum!
Kayleb and his brother came to Earth to find mates and set up a place where others could do the same. Tessa is a space ship medic where they end up for a short time, and while helping Kayleb to heal, they become mates. During an attack on the ship, Kayleb is hit again and this time loses his memory of everything about that ship - including her. The brothers leave for Earth and the ship Tessa is on gets taken by pirates.
The story is a great suspense mystery with an alien flare. Pirates, kidnapping, tracking, escaping more than once, and much more keep the pages turning as you do not want to miss anything. I could not put this book down at all. The romance that was once there, starts to reignite and by the time they are half way done dealing with pirates, they are starting to trust each other again. Liked how he always shows up and it befuddles her until later when she can sense him as well. Their family is very supportive, when they are told of things going on, and even the in-laws take matters into their own hands.
Enjoyed the ending and the idea of what they will do now that they are free. Now onto another book by this author.

Kayleb, like every Detyen, knows what to expect on his 30th birthday... maybe not the exact details, but the fact it will be the last day of his life if he hasn't found his soulmate is undeniable. So when he lives to see another day questions arise, compounded by a serious head injury a few months back... did something important, life-changing important, happen during the time he can't remember?
Tessa comes face to face with some hard realities over the course of this story. We are responsible for our own actions, it applies to everyone, and failure to act, or speak up, is an action as well. So often we think we've looked at a situation, or problem from all the angles, only to discover we missed at least one... and from there something important can be seen or revealed.
As much as a part of me wanted this done in one story to be an even faster paced adventure, this was a case where Texas's journey revealed the discoveries, not her destination. When I reached the end of the journey, I found myself appreciating the path, and hoping we encounter these characters again.

This is a fated mates, alien romance with lots of action, steamy scenes and a happily ever after ending. I absolutely loved reading this book and recommend the whole series to anyone who likes reading alien romance. Kayleb is turning 30 and without his Denya, he prepares himself for the inevitable death that happens if they are unmated. But morning comes and he’s still alive, the only problem is he doesn’t know why. When he finds Tessa in trouble and on the run, he knows straight away she’s his Denya, he just doesn’t remember mating with her or any time they were together. Tessa is shocked to see Kayleb again, he broke her heart when he couldn’t remember her after getting hurt aboard the ship they were on and then he left leaving her to be taken as a slave by pirates. Now she’s on the run and Kayleb is determined to protect her whatever happens and is hoping she will accept him as her mate once again.

I LOVE this series! Every book within the series is different but all have the same underlying story arc. In this book we meet Kayleb and Tessa. She is a medic on the same ship that Kayleb is recovering on. It is a story that will have you questioning but still delivers. The fact that Kayleb is at the precarious position of awakening and he is confused as to why he is still around when he has not mated and does not remember. (am I saying too much?). This story does move a bit slow at first but not enough to keep me from reading and enjoying the characters. It offers a bit of mystery and with that comes the twist and turns that follow the story arc. Some will question the reality of it but know this; These authors are remarkable writers and will give you the answers you seek. I really enjoyed this story and I know you will too.

Kayleb is a Detyen who doesn’t let his brother know that he has a form of amnesia. The day of his thirtieth birthday, he thinks he will die. He wakes the next morning and scares his brother and sister-in-law because he is still alive. Penny, his sister-in-law asks him if he had somehow found his denya, his mate. He says no.
Tessa was Kayleb’s nurse on the ship he and his brother, Krayter, were traveling on with their journey to Earth to find their mates. They mated and Kayleb’s head injury caused him to forget his connection to Tessa.
This book shows insecurities, frustrations, and regrets with second-guessing and hindsight of what should have been done. It also portrays loyalty, love, and the extent one will go to defend one’s mate.
I loved this story and can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Detyens die at thirty if they have not found their mate, or denya. When Kayleb NaMoren woke up the morning after his birthday, he was confused. He had been injured on his travel to Earth and now suffers gaps in his memory. But to forget his denya would be impossible!
Tessa Greely was captured by pirates to be sold into slavery. Although she does not want to see Kayleb NaMoren again, he might be the only one who can help her as she eludes the pirates chasing her. But he can’t remember her! Will he still try to save her? Does he feel anything for her? Or is it useless to wonder if there is a future for them?
This series is wonderful. Despite the overall theme being pretty much the same, the individual stories add the differences that will keep the reader enthralled. The Detyens are always so heroic, especially when they find their denya. Grab your copy and don’t miss this exciting story!
Entertaining, fun alien romance! I’m always excited to read one of Rudolph’s alien stories; I usually love them, so I knew I’d probably love this one and I did! Love the setup for this one; Kayleb is turning 30, which is when Detyen aliens die if they haven’t been mated. Surprise!! He doesn’t die, and wonders why. Turns out, he has some gaps in his memory that could possibly hold the memory of something very important, his mate. Tessa is not very happy to see Kayleb again, but it sure is nice when he helps her against some space pirates.
Love the chemistry and passion between Tessa and Kayleb. Plus, I love the whole amnesia scenario, and the bit of mystery behind what happened with Tessa and Kayleb in the past that makes Tessa unhappy to see him again. Love the action too, and exciting danger; fun adventure for Tessa and Kayleb. Excited to continue on with this series and other books by Rudolph!
Kayleb has reached his 30th birthday without finding his Denya, or mate. He spends his last night with his brother, but wakes up the next morning, very much alive. The only explanation is that somewhere, somehow, he met his Denya and bonded with her. Tessa had her heart broken six months ago when the man who told her she was his everything walked out of her life. Now she is in a whole heap of trouble, and has nobody to call on for help. Then he spots her, and his mind may not know her, but his heart does. That is just the start of their adventure. Kayleb and Tessa get their HEA, and they revel in it. The book is much better read as part of the series, as there is an over-arching storyline, but it can be read as a stand-alone. One-click this one for sure!

Unmated Detyens die at 30. When Kayleb NaMoren doesn't he, and everyone, are.very confused & wary.
He came to Earth to find his mate, but everyone seems wring. As if he had already found her and he doesn't remember. An injury on his journey to Earth left him with gaps in his memory, but he couldn't ever forget his denya. Could he? And why does red hair fascinate him SO much?
Tessa Greely was a medic on a space ship when Maglev was hurt. After talking for his words of fated mates she wanted a change if scenery, but not as a captured slave of pirates. Shes escaped them and Kaykeb is the only other being she wants to see less then them
Enjoy their story and the plot. It is well written and a pretty good read.
Kayleb is the sixth book in the Mated to the Alien series

Detyen warriors get the raw end of the deal, if they do not find their mates by the time they turn 30 they will die. Kayleb has not found his so he spent his last few hours with his brother and he falls asleep. To his surprise he wakes the next day alive and well. He is baffled by this and so is his family. He lost his memories to an injury and they are coming to him in bits and pieces, all he knows is something is pulling him to a specific place and he has no idea why. I loved this book! There is a mystery to solve and lots of action to keep you engaged. I always look forward to Kate’s books and this one was no different.

Amnesia isn’t something to be held against someone and used to discount everything said prior, nor can anyone assume someone’s relationship with family for me this made it very unrealistic and hard to read
The flashbacks don’t help the story and just end up as “justification” for the FL to be mad and do things on her own. Normally a great thing but in this case wholly stupid given the alien mate she has, has claws and is built like a fighter.
It also makes it hard to read given the length of the book, the back and forth of flashbacks and indecision just make for a hard read
Enjoyed the others I’ve read by this author and May pick it up later but after chapter 6 I lost interest.

It was interesting and light entertainment. It could have been much better like the rest of the books in this series.Too many questions from the story just were not answered like I expected. But I did really like the basic story of Kayleb expecting to die on his 30th birthday but surprised when he woke up the next day. And thus starts the action and adventure as Kayleb and Tessa end up running into each other against the odds (but not really all things considered) and fighting for their lives along with a bit of personal conflict to overcome to get back together. Like I said I expected a better story but it was entertaining.
This is a story about an alien whose race is cursed to die at age 30 if not mated. Kayleb spends the last night with his brother but wakes up in the morning. He knows there is something he forgot but just can't figure it out. The story is good but has a few spots where it drags and the bad things just keep happening. And then we are done except for the plug for the next book. I liked the story but it was a little hard to keep reading because you think it is over and then the next thing happens. I would have liked a little more down time from the action for the heroes to find each other again.

I really liked this book. I thought it was a bit slow at first but got better and better. Both Kayleb and Tessa are on the run from some pretty bad pirates. Kayleb knows Tessa is his Denya (Mate) but had an accident and doesn't remember her. He finally finds her and knows her but not the circumstances around the accident. Tessa has been on the run as she swiped some pretty bad intel on the pirates and they want it back. Lots of action, passion and some trust issues, especially on Tessa's side. Recommend.
Like most romantic novels, this is basically about Kayleb finding his true mate before he dies: unfortunately the story starts out where he has found his mate but they were in a battle he was hit over the head and he lost his memory…… She runs because he doesn’t remember her and steals something from Pirates, they do end up finding themselves again but I would say the majority of this story is nothing but running and fighting, end it isn’t until the very very end when they can actually relax and get to know each other. To me it was just a little off
Kayleb and Tessa aren't my fave mated couple in this series but I still really enjoyed it. These Detyens make many other alien species feel a bit lacking :) Kayleb is the first amnesiac Detyen we've met and it def. puts a twist on everything as he tries to figure it out. The writing is great and it is worth remembering that though part of a series they can be read alone, albiet there is more enjoyment and understanding if you start with book one. This was a fantastic, enjoyable book within this series, although can be read as a standalone. I've previously met Kayleb and his Denya Tessa in other books, having read a previous one that introduced Kayleb and his brother and having also read his brother Krayter's book. This is a lovely second chance romance which had a great storyline, with lots of action and plenty of steamy scenes. It starts with Kayleb preparing to die on his 30th birthday because he hasn't found his Denya, but finds that he survives supposedly without having found his denya.
This is an excellent way to escape from... well, everything. With the amazingly entertaining storyline, to the plot twists that shock and amuse, this book is easily worth a second read. A great romance and an equally great science fiction novel. I can confidently give the book a four star rating.
Exactly as described in the book blurb but with some excellent interactions and a few twists and turns - recommended reading for romantics and science fiction lovers.

I am so enjoying this "Mated to the Alien" series and this story is no exception! It's a good science fiction story with fated mates. I have enjoyed all of the Detyen stories they are interesting and intriguing stories about finding the Denya or paying the ultimate price. I love this authors creativity and storytelling. This is Kayleb and Tessa's story. It's a fairly quick and fast paced read that is intriguing and interesting. The story is nicely developed with uncertainty, suspense and great twists and turns.
Fated mates, a deadly legacy, amnesia, and pirates in pursuit; Kayleb is a romance thrillingly driven by action from the beginning. Kayleb, a Detyen, is destined to die at 30 unless he finds his fated mate. The same curse all his people live under. He doesn’t remember so much as meeting his mate. And yet, his birthday comes and goes and he doesn’t die. So is he somehow immune, or did he do the unthinkable and forget his mate? Tessa, who met a pair of Detyen brothers in space, has been burned by the promises of fate and mate and isn’t interested in romance and love anymore. Been there, done that, got kidnapped by pirates for her troubles. But she managed not only to escape, but to exact the kind of revenge that leaves her on the run and in desperate need of help before the pirates catch up again. But not Kayleb’s help, no matter how willing and able he is to provide it for the mate he doesn’t remember, but who kept him from dying despite his every expectation. Tessa isn’t looking for a second chance, and Kayleb is basically starting over on the wrong foot, because he doesn’t remember his first chance with the woman he instantly recognizes as his mate. However, with Tessa’s life in imminent danger, Kayleb isn’t willing to back down. Not in protecting his mate, and not in doing his best to win her back and remember her. Kayleb is thrilling, fascinating, and a gripping read. A real enemies-to-lovers vibe that’s a second chance romance in a lot of ways—at least on one side. It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat and have you rooting for, cursing, and aching for the hero and heroine. I’m eager for more!
First off, the beginning of this book is so well written. You know Kayleb survives (because (a) the book synopsis says so, and (b) the book would end at Chapter 1 if he kicked it), but the dread and the poignancy of the moment is so prevalent that you just get sucked into it. The action in this book keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the sparks between Kayleb and Tessa make you root for their happiness. I’ve loved every book I’ve read in this series, and this one does not disappoint!
Kaleb failed his mission to find his mate before he dies at age 30 and has resigned himself to dying but when he wakes up the next day he knows something is not right. He meets his mate Tessa and he needs to figure out why she is so upset with him. The story line was interesting and had action, kidnappings, pirates, amnesia and amazing chemistry between Tessa and Kayleb. I did find the story line was a bit choppy with some unanswered questions but it was still a good read.

Kayleb thought it was the end of the road for him since he was turning 30 and hadn’t found his mate. Who would have thought that his life would be turned around and that he already found his mate.Tessa was broken after What happened with Kayleb. The last person she expected to find on earth was him. Together they will face some crazy obstacles. However it seems what they need in order to find each other again. I enjoyed the story and can’t wait to see who the next story is about.
