Daddy, It's Cold Outside

Rate this book
All Jude Kensworth White wanted for Christmas was to be home with his family. He certainly didn’t need to be stuck in a cabin for a last minute work retreat. He considered not attending, but was assured things would be ok by his current boss and former childhood best friend, Logan.

Logan Clark needed Jude at the retreat. He knew Jude would have to be there for the entire thing to work in the first place. He was trying to get rid of his ghosts from Christmas past, and he knew there was no way to banish a ghost without looking it straight in the face first.

Neither of them were expecting the turn of events that leaves them both confronting their past and weathering the present.

It was beginning to look a lot like a complicated Christmas.

Daddy, It's Cold Outside is a full-length, steamy gay holiday romance that has no cliffhangers.

This one's worth a read if you enjoy super fluffy & sexy friends-to-lovers, second-chance stories and are willing to suspend disbelief at the instant reconciliation and silly "futuristic world" the author created.

I believe Jude is the son of two previous MCs, so this story is set in approximately 2045. There are self-driving cars (WANT!), invisible walls, and a high-tech fairy tale Christmas mansion ... errr, I mean cabin.

The HEA is pure cotton candy, but this book is just soooo corny; it's almost unbearable. Both MCs laugh at their own ridiculous jokes, and some of the inaccuracies about killed me.

I'm not going to go all nitpicky on the author's ass, but coughing is NOT a symptom of ALS and it takes several weeks (not one day) to know if a stem cell transplant was successful.

Also, if you're looking for a daddy theme, skip this one. The title barely applies.

Closer to 2.5, rounded up.

Just not put together well enough for my tastes

I normally enjoy sweet, saccharine gay romances, even if they can be simplistic and pat, as I usually appreciate the sappiness (and sometimes how a fluffy story can enhance any smexy sizzle). Unfortunately, although many of the character and plot ideas were nicely cute and fun for me, the execution didn’t flow well for me. I’m accustomed to excusing several eye-rolling moments of disbelief in a short, overly sweet romance, for the sake of an “aw shucks” story or to set up explicit heat. This story seemed to be trying to be more earnest than many cute and/or sexy gay romances, but unfortunately for my reading experience it did not come together well in several spots.

There was a bit of heat in the second half, with a very, very light “Daddy it’s cold outside” theme tying some of the sizzling scenes to the story and smexy roles. The heated scenes worked fairly well, and much of the work read o.k. However, too many of the plot, setting and character ideas just came across as manufactured and took away from the story while only very mildly enhancing the sizzle.

Other readers clearly enjoyed this second chance story, but this particular fluff didn’t work for me.

Everyone but me seems to love this second chance at Christmas tale. I can relate to the nigh general gushing about the writing; yet there are too many problems to ignore, beginning with the utterly ridiculous title and the subpart artwork, both of which underscore the poor quality of the product they advertize. For one thing, there is not the smallest difference between the literary voices of Julian and Logan; characters that are depicted as two peas in the same pod, complete with hardons as soon as they see or brush by the other and the very same vocabulary and syntactic inflections, make for extremely poor estranged friends and lovers. They ought to have been written as complimentary to each other instead of wholly identical. As Mr Walker draweth out the thread of his verbosity finer than the staple of his argument, resulting in an overlong book where feelings are hammered away, situations force-fed to the reader, and where everyone and their mother is entirely too wordy, to the point that drawned out conversations lasting for entire strings of chapters are the norm, I got the same feeling as if I were listening to a concert with two orchestras playing the same part while trying to outdo each other. The same lack of subtelty applies to the plotting and the literary construction : I was convinced neither by The Big Misunderstanding between both heroes (as silly as they come, and then some) nor by the, seemingly random, way their shared past is flung in the reader's face by this rather preaching novel, and disliked Julian's family for their contrived cheerfulness, nay mushiness, in the face of adversity. People preach one thing in their POV then cave in far too easily when push comes to shove; the specific atmosphere of the IT corporate world is not in the least captured; the saccharine quality of Christmas pervades everything within these covers with no lightness of touch. In so many words, this was not a book that I could fall for.

Amei, nota zero.

Ponto positivo pros flashbacks. Amor (pré)-adolescente é o melhor tipo de amor.

Wow. Just...no. So many things I could mention. The craziness of the technology. The wild word choices. The wrong words ("handed him the reigns of control" almost sent me over the edge). The "missing father/dead mother" backstory that's never explained in any way. The midterms just before Christmas and then finishing high school at Christmas and leaving for college the week after New Year's. Umm...nope.

I think we should cross the line
Let's ruin the friendship?

Precisava citar esse hino da Demi Lovato pra essa resenha hahaha

Que livroooo! Decidi me aventurar nesse new adult contemporâneo futurista lgbtq e não me arrependo.
Super vale a pena a leitura!

A Christmas story about second chances. About the one that got away, for Jude. Or the one you let get away, which Logan did. The writing is good, the plot is a tried and true. Through mishaps and circumstances, Jude and Logan get stranded together. Giving them the time to hash things out and realize that they still care for each other, maybe even the big “L” word.

There is a lot of angst as you read about the horrible childhood Logan went through. With his mother dead, he was raised by his homophobic grandmother. The only thing in his life that kept sane, it was Jude and his family. And yet, how does he get past the echoes of everything he’s grown up with, the slurs thrown his way by his grandmother.

From the beginning of the story, you knew that something big had happened to end the best friends and budding romantic relationship between Logan and Jude. And now that they work together, they both are trying to act as if the past doesn’t matter. But it does still matter to both of them. So Boss Logan sets up a retreat, insisting that Jude be there. His assistant does him a favor by mixing up the arrival time of the others on the work team. Mother Nature does him another favor by throwing a snow storm at them and stranding them alone.

There were times as I read that I felt like I had missed something. Through research, I found out that most of these characters have appeared in another story by this author. All of the characters were great. This is an enjoyable, good read.

Second chance love story wrapped up with an amazing Christmas cabin retreat. The attention to details of their surroundings was really terrific. This story was written to take place a few years in the future and the author was really creative about what our world will be like then, from medical advances to transportation. I absolutely am delighted with the world-building that the author did with this story.

Logan grew up in an abusive home and the idea that he could be gay was just too much for him to handle at a young age, so he ran from Jude. Jude was deeply hurt by Logan's reaction, however he never stopped loving his best friend. Jude and his family were really Logan's rock and the only love he had growing up. Both men miss their time together and this is their journey back to each other. There are flashbacks to wonderful and to painful memories that are so well scripted you will laugh and you will cry with them.

Logan and Jude are passionate, funny, strong and loving men, watching them come back together was heartfelt and romantic Together Jude and Logan find forgiveness and love as they reconnect at the retreat cabin. This is a story of childhood best friends who fall in love and fall apart because of the intensity of those feelings. As men, they can deal with the intensity that was overpowering when they were younger.

An amusing book the writing was terrific. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters funny. Even though there is some sadness in this book a large amount had humorous moments. The characters were well developed and thought out. The banter between the two MC’s is great, it’s a detail that helps to make this a good story. Logan and Jude are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, a tech business, snow, a large cabin, present wrapping, past memories and pain, caring family, a nasty grandma, igloo bar, freak blizzard, snow pit and so much more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “I nodded, unable to hold back the dumb grin spreading across my face. Jude knew exactly what to say to get me to laugh. It was like a magic power he had since we were kids. “Sure,” I said, shaking my head as though it would wipe away my smile. “So let’s get some ice cream, then,” Jude said with a sexy wink and a laugh. He turned and entered the kitchen. I realized then that it was beginning to feel as though only days separated us from our past, not five long years. Maybe this will all be ok, after all.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can recommend. I enjoyed this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Such a sweet second chance romance!

So if you read Code White, then you already know Jude. If not no worries, it can stand alone, but I highly recommend reading them.

This book is about him getting another chance with the person he thought was his childhood love. Poor Logan was so conflicted for most of his life, but finding Jude again helps him realize that Jude was always his rock. Through a series of coincidences/bad-luck *wink-wink* they are forced to confront their past and try to figure out if they have a future.

It appears very sweet and romantic--and it is--but don’t let that fool you. There are some seriously steamy hot scenes, and even some “daddy” fun. Considerably low on angst for what I expected with their history, but lots of tension. Plenty of witty banter, some seriously bad(funny) Christmas puns, and a cottage that is one incredibly fun adult playground. Also features a look at what’s become of one of our favorite couples, their trials and triumphs. And some interesting views of what the future may look like...I want a car like that NOW!!

This book is everything I want in a Christmas story and I loved it! It is beautifully written with great character development and the secondary characters made this book even better - I love Jude's dads. My favorite part was how incredibly close Jude is to his family and how they included Logan in everything they did and went out of their way to accept him. Logan's grandmother treated him terribly when he was a kid and his only solace was Jude and his family. Logan made a huge mistake and rejected Jude after their high school graduation and they were out of contact for many years. They meet up again when Jude goes to work for Logan but they spend the first three months ignoring each other. Once they spend some time together the sparks are flying and these two stubborn men have to chose to be together in spite of their past mistakes. I can't wait to read more books by Max Walker!

Great second chance Christmas story. I must admit that when I started reading I took an immediate dislike to one of the MCs, Logan. Jude, on the other hand, was delightful from the word go.

However, as I read, I realised that Logan had grown up in an abusive home, and young Logan's reaction to Jude was understandable.

When they finally reconnect, watching them come back together was both sweet and romantic. Logan came to realise what a mistake his young self had made, that he loved Jude and wanted him in his life.

For all it was a sweet tale, it is also seriously hot. When the guys finally get together, they're combustible. I did think that there would be more angst, but am pleased to say that the angst level was considerably low.

On the contrary, the story is full of witty banter, and full of Christmas puns (very bad ones, by the way). It becomes obvious that the two were meant to be together. Really enjoyed it. Recommended.

This was a lovely story that I found a joy to read, once I started I couldn’t put it down.

Jude always went through life knowing who he was. He grew up with 2 Dads, and a sister, and always knew he was gay. From a early age his next door neighbour, Logan, spends most of his time with him until the day things go a step too far....and they kiss.....

The story picks up 5 years later when Jude goes to work for Logan. They spend most of their time avoiding each other until it’s arranged to attend a Christmas group bonding retreat . Only whilst there they get snowed in by a storm.

The story is so sweet. It retells the past, and brings you to the present, of two men fighting against their feelings. The anger and the angst just makes the attraction hotter and steamier.

Will Logan finally admit his true feelings towards Jude? You will have to read this book to find out if they will get their HEA.

Daddy it's Cold Outside
This is a lovely story about second chances.
Jude has always been in love with his best friend Logan. They shared a kiss at Christmas when they were teenagers with Logan pushing Jude away. He can't admit to himself he's gay let alone tell Jude he loves him!. They reconnect eleven years later when Jude gets a job at the company Logan owns. They both slyly look and think the other is more attractive than ever. When they get snowed in alone at the cabin Logan had arranged for all his team to relax at before Christmas they can't keep their hands off each other. Can Logan convince Jude this is for keeps and can they start again?
There are some lovely moments between Jude and his dads!
I would recommend this book

A really enjoyable Christmas story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the characters and their story was very well written and although this book is Christmas themed it wasn't cheesy which can happen with this type of story.

Basically this is a second chance novel, it's about two childhood best friends who fell out but never forgot each other. Years later they work in the same company and Logan decides to take his employees in a Christmas retreat but things go awry when only Jude turns up, then they find themselves snowed in. Logan and Jude find themselves having a heart to heart about what broke them up as teenagers and when it turns out they still have feelings for each other, can they make this second chance stick this time. Recommended.

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" Working for your childhood crush could be awkward for anyone, especially when Jude finds himself in a remote holiday house for a work retreat when he really wants to be spending the holidays with his family. Isolated in Xmas holiday overwhelm is uncomfortable for Logan, plus he's finally forced to confront his childhood friend he hurt years ago. Will they stare at the Santa hologram and try to make small talk or follow the elf chasing the reindeer and find a new path? Another gift from Max Walker with excellent cameos of characters from the Code series.

I love Max Walker's books and this one was no exception.
If you read Code White, when you have already been introduced to one of the MC. Jude is Nicholas & Shep White's son.
Jude and Logan were childhood best friends who had a falling out.
Ten years later, Jude applies for and gets a job at Logan's company.
To boost moral within this company, Logan arranges a company retreat at a cabin.
Snowed in and alone, Jude and Logan open up to each other and rekindle their relationship.
This is a definitely a great holiday read.

Although I don't usually read the 2nd chance romance, this felt different from the beginning. While there had been a possibility for more, Logan hurt Jude and left his best friend before they could have one. When Jude applies and gets a job at Logan's company, they both have underlying feelings for each other, but it's not until they go on a company retreat that they explore those feelings. It was a good read and although I liked Jude more as a character, I understood why Logan was so closed off and appeared as cold. One of the best 2nd chance romances I've read!

4.5*

This is a sexy holiday-second chance-contemporary romance.

I think Max Walker did a wonderful job of creating this world and characters. I felt so deeply for both of the MCs in this story. The heartbreak and pain they went through and then watching them fall in love all over again; only now as adults and both accepting of themselves and the relationship that is forging ahead.

I really enjoyed this book. I felt like I would have got more out of it had I read the other books that feature the same characters, or their parents but it's standalone in its own right. It was fun to see a little into a potential future where technology has advanced so much but where we are still human beings making the same mistakes when it comes to love and relationships.
Who wouldn't want to be snowed in with the person they love? Read as Jude and Logan find their way back to each other thanks to a meddling colleague and a freak blizzard.

Awesome read! Jude and Logan get a second chance at love in a delightful holiday background. Story is wrapped with the future and scenes from the past written to flow natural with the couple. These two are sexy, funny and perfect together. My heart broke with what they went through and cheered when they reconnected and found their true selves. Can't wait for the next. An incredible second chance romance! Love the storyline, I could not put it down, kept me glued to my kindle until the very end. Logan and Jude are wonderful characters who were best friends until Logan ran from Jude. Now they are snowed in together in a cabin and the chemistry and love are still there. Can they move beyond their past and work their way back together?

This is all a about second chances.
Jude has always been in love with Logan, ever since they first made friends one Christmas when he took Logan home as one would a stray puppy. Logan has always been in love with Jude although he can't admit it to himself. When they kiss one Christmas as teenagers he pushes Jude away and they do not meet until years later when Jude begins working for his company. So when they are stranded on a company retreat, can they start over?
Beautifully written.

absolutely adored this story
for me it hit all the right buttons.
I loved Jude & Logan and their connection
I had one icky point but decided to not cut down in rating for that after wondering about it i admit.

not revealing spoilers the illness that was worked in the story was in my opinion the wrong choice , there are multiple choices and going with this one in this context was wrong like i said in my opinion.

but as i said i absolutely adored the story the characters the family etc

Sweet

I really liked this story. The charges are interesting and well-written. This take on a second chance romance is nice. I am a little confused as to the year this is supposedly taking place since it seems that at some parts it could be current, but then it seems like years into the future. Self-driving cars and random holograms?

This is a cute story with great characters. Give it a chance.

Max Walker wrote a very nice Christmas-Second-Love-Story. years ago becoming friends, shoked by the feelings one left. Years later they work as boss and employee together and both want them.
Thanks to a winter blizzard, some (human) elves and long nights with a christmas-song brings the HEA.
And it has nothing to do with a "daddy" kink!

Steamy!

I really love friends to lovers and even though they hadn't been friends in a while it was still really good. I didn't care for the past to present and back and forth, I wish the past were told then present the rest of the book. However it was a really cute little holiday book.
