Rigel and Rion Wyatt have just won the Spaceracer Championship. The young men are on top of the world until an enslaved girl named Aurora challenges everything they know about their sport. Determined to set her free, the twins must execute a daring plan with all the finesse a champion Spaceracer team can muster.
Aurora is part of Mydlands, a Creative Commons sci-fi universe. It is a short story (approx. 17 minutes average reading time).
Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick lives in an undisclosed location outside of Phoenix where she and her husband chase their four little boys and an escape-artist dog. They don't chase their cats, however, because cats hate that. She is the author of "The Kitten Files" mysteries, "The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott" spy series, and multiple short stories.
In addition to her writing, Perry enjoys graphic design, playing a number of musical instruments, and watching movies that make her laugh.
Really sweet short story! The world building was great, and while short with not a lot of time for description, there was never a time I was confused. The characters were great, and I loved seeing Rion and Rigel grown up. The human trafficking theme was exceptionally well done, and Aurora was so sweet.
All in all, a great short story! My paperback edition as absolutely adorable.
After reading Stronger for Language, it was delightful to see those cute toddlers grown up into honorable young men. I especially loved the concept of a “brainstorm” (literally) and the tech surrounding. That was the most realistic fake science I’ve ever read in sci-fi! :P AND can we talk about how brilllliant their plan was??? Because it was. (Also, ) Just a note that the evil of human trafficking is present, but the issue is well-handled and talked around.
Best quote: “I have a way,” he said. “And you are worth it.”
Altogether, this was a great sequel! I dearly hope the author writes more about these characters. ;)
I love brother story's. They are so awesome. So when two brothers go into rescue quiet Aurora, I was all in. I loved their interaction through the story. Actually I was amazed at how well I got to know them in such a short time! They are so reckless, yet strong morally. And them with their parents; that was awesome! And that ending. <3
I would recommend to anyone who likes sci-fi with strong characters.
Nice story with sweet characters, but the telepathy thing was a bit out there for me. Just a personal preference, but I like my sci-fi more tech-based than strange-ability-based. But the way they used it to help Aurora was great. ;)
Content--mentions of human trafficking and veiled hints about how female slaves are treated; mentions of drinking
That was interesting ... I liked seeing the twins older!!! I didn't understand their ability of talking to each other through their minds though! But, I guess authors can make up anything in sci-fi books! :D
I think I liked "Stronger for Language" better than this one, but that's how it works sometimes!!
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
The cover is beautiful, the twins are great, and the author is a favorite, but the topic of this story was not for me. For that reason I'm leaving my rating blank to avoid skewing the average rating. :)
