Hollie Fowler has given up all hope of living a normal life when she returns to Drake’s Crossing. She lives for her job, operating a heavy duty borer, Big Betty. Hired to run a train line through the nearby mountains, she hopes to breathe life back into her hometown. What she doesn’t know, is she’s about to stumble upon an ancient beast, one who stirs up feelings she’s buried so deep even Big Betty couldn’t hope to reach them.

When dragon shifter Obsidian is awoken from a peaceful slumber, he’s determined to teach someone a lesson. So what if he’s been asleep for a few centuries too long, he’s a dragon, master of his own destiny. Until he sees her. Feisty and unafraid, this human holds his fate in her small but capable hands.

Sparks fly as Hollie and Obsidian clash. Drawn to each other, yet intensely independent, they must find a way to work together…because the dragon wasn’t the only thing buried under the mountain. Can Hollie work alongside the blunt dragon, from another time, and save the town from a dark danger that has awoken? Will she tame his brash, reckless nature? Or succumb to his unimaginable power, which makes her heart race, and her body pulse with an ancient need of its own.

This is a standalone novel with no cliffhanger and a HEA.

Amelia Jade loves to write the stories of tall, growly shifter men and the women who come to love them. Living out in the back-country near the mountains, she keeps her own alpha male close by, to keep the bears away and keep her warm. In her down time (which is rare), she loves to read science-fiction with a dash of fantasy. You can often find her curled up in front of the real wood-burning fireplace, her nose firmly buried in a book or her favorite ereader. The cold can't bother her there!

I am not a reader who gives up easily on series after only the first story. Having said that I will pick up Ember, the second in the Dragons of Drake’s Crossing series,, but I’ve a feeling this will follow my usual pattern with Amelia Jade’s work. There are some series that I completely love and follow. There are others that are simply not to my personal liking – and that’s fine, we’re not all going to love the same books.

While I found the premise of Inferno interesting, a waking dragon, centuries past and dealing with the modern world, these two characters did not transport me to a world that I’m certain I want to visit again. And no, I’m not going to toss insults, that’s not my way. This book was simply one that was not for me. If I cannot care about or connect with the characters in some way, then the story falls flat for me. And Obsidian and Hollie were never more than words on the page, they never became alive to me so I had no interest in them reaching a happy ending. I could give you several reasons why but truly what’s the point? Simply because I could not connect does not mean that you will feel the same way. For you Inferno might be just as high on your list as Ms Jade’s several linked series around the land of Cadia is for me. We can have a different opinion. As I mentioned, I’ll try Ember and see how things go from there.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

The dragons of Drake's Crossing seem like it's going to be a good series. I try not to let some of the oddities bother me. I love to read just for the entertainment. Hollie was just that. She was so head strong and spoke her mind. Especially when it came to Sid.
Sid didn't even know the world had changed or how long he slept but meeting Hollie help make the change better and more interesting.
I really liked this first book and can't wait to read the next to see how it evolves.
I voluntarily agreed to review this book. My review is my own honest opinion.

INFERNO

Inferno book one in the Dragons of Drake’s Crossing, and what a great start to this new series. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. A exciting and entertaining storyline, that had action, danger, humour and romance filling the pages. Obsidian is a dragon shifter whose a bit sullen to start but soon thaws out and takes quiet well to his new environment. Hollie is a feisty and somewhat snarky female who overtakes her fear of Obsidian with anger and humour. But somehow they go great together and are well suited. I always think that a first book in a new series, is the most important as it lays the foundation for the rest of the books to come and I think the author has done well. My only real grumble is that I think that as Obsidian is so old he should have used words and actions that was more accustomed to his time. Otherwise, it was a very interesting and enjoyable read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Slow to start for me but improved later on.
I will be following this new series as it has grabbed my interest to see what will be coming.
I struggled to get into this story for some reason but cannot put my finger on why.
I like this authors work and usually fall in love with her characters but for some reason I did not take to Hollie until much later in the story.
I found Hollie to be both annoying and yet at the same time funny.
Obsidian was an interesting mix of modern and old fashioned but I feel like I never really got to know much about him. Yes he had been asleep for 500 years but there must be more to him than what we find out. I would have liked to find out more about his family history but I have the feeling that will be coming in future books.
Will be interesting to see if Nyx gets his own story.
This is my honest review of this book.

The idea and the way the author written the book was good, but there were a few annoying parts that ruined it a bit for me

Honestly the whole idea of a dragon shifter who has been living in a mountain for 500 years is fascinating. I love the development of the story and how the author protrayed the differences of time during the book. The only thing I have to say, that didn't speak so well to me, was the constant anger the protagonist had towards the dragon when he asked her what's for dinner or you scream like a girl. It's fine to add some feminism to the book, and it's a good lesson but too much of it really got me mad. I'm female and I support feminism, but when the dragon doesn't know about the culture, you don't have to keep getting angry at him. Overall, if you don't mind a bit of annoyance, then I recommend the book wholeheartedly!

Modern day sass meets ancient class in this novel Inferno by Amelia Jade. Ancient dragon Obsidian (Sid) is rudely awakened by his fated mate Hollie and literal and figurative sparks fly. Can he win her love while protecting his mountain from the invasion of the drillers? What is he protecting? Will Hollie finally come to understand that she is his forever? Ms. Jade writes a great story and these Dragons of Drake’s Crossing are sure to continue to give us hours of reading pleasure. If you’re looking for sassy heroines, stalwart alpha males, just the right amount of steam to keep you swooning and a whole lotta love, read on.

Sid and Hollie

Sid(Obsidian) was awoken after sleeping for 500 years to find the world radically changed. The first person he actually meets is Hollie. She was the bore operator who was tunneling through his mountain.
Sid is a hot-headed dragon shifter and Hollie is a very brash human. Together they try to solve the problem of how to stop the mining. We also get a peek at Sid's brother who may be the main character of the next book.
I totally love Amelia Jade's series as I've read them all. I recommend reading any and all of them to anyone who wants short adventure stories with lovable (and not so lovable) shifters.

Who knows what you'll get when awaken a sleeping dragon? Especially after a 500 year nap! Hollie doesn't let her fear get in the way of stopping Obsidian before he wreaks havoc on humankind for damaging his mountain. She's determined, feisty, and level headed. She has to quickly teach Obsidian how to exist and survive in this new world. What she doesn't realize is that along the way she starts to fall for this gorgeous dragon shifter. He recognizes her as his fated mate, now he must win her over.

Meet the real world now

Another great book from Amelia. The characters were a pip. Snarly dragon and a snarky human you just knew these two would clash.

Just finished the story and it is worth reading. Laughing out loud at the antics of these two strong and stubborn individuals was glad I was home alone otherwise family might have thought I was crazy.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed this book without obligation to do so.

Yup, enjoyed it!

Sometimes I pick up a book and think it's going to be just another quick read, then I get into it and realize I'm really enjoying the characters and their interactions. Although a quick read, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to continuing the series.

I do hope Nyx comes around and maybe find a mate. Guess I have to keep reading to find out. I can't wait.

This was an interesting way to start off the new series. Hollie and Obsidian were both strong, stubborn characters, but were perfect mates for each other, and fun to see interact. I enjoyed following their story, seeing them fall in love while dealing with everything that was going on. I'm really curious to see what the author has in store for the rest of the series. I was gifted a copy.

A fun loving ride

Who Kew could be such fun.

Hollie is an extraordinary woman, strong of heart and soul, with a quirky sense of humor.
Obsidian has been asleep for hundreds of years and is fascinated with the new world around him.
Join them on a wonderful journey.
I haven't laughed so much in awhile thank you.

Inferno

This was a good book starting the Drake’ Crossing. You meet the characters and get some of their history along with the romance between an alpha and the heroine. Both characters are strong willed but compromise together to become a mated pair. It is a stand alone read but I look forward to reading more in this series.

Love!

The fact that there is such a huge difference in times between Sid and Hollie makes this great! The added effect of learning all of the new technology and having that child-like glee makes this appreciate the things we have nowadays. Then you add in the amazingly strong character that is Hollie and you have an awesome read :)

A new series from Amelia with sexy dragons waking up in Drake’s Crossing. While out on a dig Hollie finds herself in front of a dragon Obsidian. I found Hollie to be a bit much at times. It was funny to see Obsidian’s reaction as he learned to adapt to this new world he has woke up to. New series that I’m looking forward to reading. I voluntarily read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book of a new series, and it looks to be a good one! This story was a lot lighter than other Amelia Jade books that I have read - it had several laugh out loud moments, plus a great romance, and a hint for future books! Loved it!

Exciting

I loved it. Hollie is such a modern woman and Six is such a fun and exciting dragon. Between the love story, the advances of the modern world and the excitement of fighting to conceal their identity it was just fantastic.

Inferno

I thought he was protecting his horde in the mountain from the miners that's why he was protesting. I never suspected he was trying to keep his brother in. The miners are lucky Nyx hadn't woken up first.

Hollie loves it when she operates the heavy-duty machine called Big Betty. Digging in the mountain breaking through a thin wall they found something unbelievable.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD DRAGON STORY?? THE FIRST MEETING BETWEEN AN AWAKENING DRAGON AND A FEISTY HEROINE.

What didn't work for me?

The moment the two met...there just wasn't anything interesting about them or their possible chemistry and the heroine was too snarky with little lack of trying.
