THE VICTORY WAS HOLLOW. Too hard-fought. Too short-lived. Now, scattered and hunted by the monstrous rakul, Rachel and Jarek must do everything they can to protect their friends and keep their brewing Enochian weapons safe long enough for one slim chance at turning the tides. But first, they have to find each other. And with no comm network to speak of and a squadron of galaxy-class killers on their tails, nothing is quite so simple. Harvest has fallen. Grab your copy of Retribution now, and suit up for the thrilling conclusion of The Harvesters Series!
Luke is a storyteller whose dreams include learning the ways of the Force, becoming a sentient robot, and maybe even one day growing up. Also, lots of zombies… Don't ask.
After studying engineering science at Penn State and neuroengineering at Drexel, Luke finally decided to throw in the towel on actually building a working Iron Man suit, opting instead to simply make things up and write them down. Boy, is he having more fun now.
When he's not holed up in his cave trying to string words together, he can often be found powerlifting, video-gaming, reading, and/or drinking the darkest, most roasty beers he can get his mitts on.
You know what? Enough about Luke. He's not that interesting. But if you'd like to say hi to him for whatever reason, he'd probably be glad to hear from you. Contact him at luke@lukermitchell.com (kind of a silly email address, right?) with questions, critiques, or just a friendly hello!

Sniff! What a mind blowing end to a grasping and fascinating series! I enjoyed each and every moment and scene of savage battles, emotive encounters, cheeky sarcasm, humourous situations, complex and admirable characters, counting the ragnoths. The original names of the aliens, the vivid description of them is so realistic I could actually visualize them. The rakul, quasi immortal species are mesmerizingly terrifying. Luke R. Mitchell has given his best and more in this series, a unique writing, creative beyond imagination. And the book covers, wow! Every single book has a fantastic like 3D art design that never tires me to look at them. The ending was both unexpected and sad, but happy and thankful. I got emotional too, lol! I didn’t want to see it end! Beautifully written and a wonderful ride I truly hope continues! Congratulations Luke! You’ve made me very happy reading this great series, thank you!
"We ready to seize the carp?" Think you've already read the most epic non stop battle action yet? Then try this one for size. With the world already in a post apocalyptic state after being overwhelmed by lizard like, blood drinking aliens with super strength and other powers, the survivors now face the incoming of near immortals who terrify even the conquerors. Oh, and there are hordes of body hacking, near zombie like humans roaming around, too, determined to exterminate anyone not under a mind control as well as fighting and trampling each other. And fighting for their lives, and that of the earth itself, there is Jarek with his suit and Big Wacker, Rachel, an arcanist, and a handful of brave humans in an uneasy alliance with some of the invaders. The action is almost non stop, the forces to be overcome extremely immaginative, the tension grows, old friends are lost, new loves ignite, - and yet still it is laced with the humour of the author's earlier books.
This concluding book of the Harvesters series is breathtaking, fraught, funny but with time for the occasional tear. The whole series has been superb. The characters, including Al, Jarek's friendly AI, for all their outlandishness, have become friends. Even the author, Luke R.Mitchell, commented at the conclusion of the book that "I don't want to say goodbye" and this reader can totally endorse that - neither did I.
But new readers, don't start with this book. This is a series to read from the beginning in order to get to know the characters and feel the situation. There is a lot happening. And I highly recommend that you do read it. It is quite unexpected, well written and very enjoyable.
This is unfortunately the last book in the Harvester series, following Jarek, The Soldier of Charity, in his fight to rid the world of the Rakul. The Rakul have come to Earth to harvest the planet and that included wiping out mankind !
Some of the Raknoth have sided with Jarek, Rachel and their friends from Enochia and are trying to keep any survivors and fighters alive as they travel to find safe places to stay. The only problem is the Rakul seem to always find them and transmit a signal that turns crowds of people into a ‘furor’, more like zombies who will attack anything.
Can the Raknoth and Enochia collusion work to help defeat the Rakul ?
Rachel and Jarek and their teams have been separated, can they reunite and where is safe against the Rakul ?
Lots of action at points in this final episode and we get to see how Jarek, his exo-suit Fela and Al try to keep his forces together amongst lots of in fighting. He wants to be reunited with Rachel and the others but find the path to follow to reach them has quite a few obstacles.
Great read but sad to see there will be no more in the Harvester series – but at least the little tidbit that there might be some short stories or novels on the Enochian planet and its interaction and help to Earth. I hope so.
I was lucky to get an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my opinion of the book above without hopefully giving too much away.
This was one kick butt series, but it did suffer with some issues. In the first two books we had the whole crew barely surviving a fight with the weakest of the Rokul. But in this book the same crew took on 11 of these unbeatable monsters. 2-3 of the hero's were taking out a single rokul on their own. It was just too unbelievable. Maybe of there had been at most a half dozen of them I could have swallowed my disbelief a little easier. Fighting no more than three at a time. Then we have flying spaceships that can traverse through the universe, but they have no weapons on these space ships. So many times those could have come in handy. Them we have these beings that have conquered world after world over many thousands of years and they also have no weapons on their spaceships. True my, they should have had the ability to just blast our group off the map without getting themselves dirty. I get them wanting to put these people in their place, but no weapons on a ship at the end just pushed the boundaries dsl of believability to me. Other than these glaring issues though, this really was a good trilogy. I would live to see more of Jarek, Rachel and Drogan.
I am delighted to find that this author, who writes the best newsletters around, also writes his book the same way! Snarky, funny, sarcastic, full of action and intensity – it makes you sit straight up in your seat, ready for an adventure. He just sets the tone that well!
The Rakul have come to Earth to Harvest the planet, and that involves the extermination of mankind! Jarek and friends are doing what they can to fight back and save humanity. It has been ongoing, exhausting, and a hard-won victory.
There are many creepy-crawlies and stuff born of nightmares to fight, so even the most jaded will enjoy the pulse-pounded excitement! The characters are incredible and fun to get to know -- well, some are fun anyway! The race to stay one step ahead of the enemy gives us a nice panorama of the futuristic world out there. And it’s so awesome to see an author having so much fun with his story lines as he relentlessly delivers them to his eagerly waiting fans. Don’t miss this final book in the Harvester series. And don’t stop here! There are many more well written adventures waiting for you by this author!
I really enjoyed this series but I found this conclusion to be lacking for a few reasons.
First - while there weren't many in the end, I found the callbacks to "Soldier of Charity" to be jarring. Why would Jarek all of a sudden be thinking of those things when he wasn't earlier in the series? Essentially I thought this was quite forced and should have been left out.
Second - The increasing scale of the battles starts to feel a little too much. Not because it isn't fun, but because it is simply unbelievable to read the exponentially increasing power of our protagonists with no real explanation given for that increase.
Third - The increasing scale of the battles left us a little bit lost in terms of what was going on and left me a bit cold (also because of point two).
Fourth - On our sixth story with these characters, the attempts at internal conflict are starting to seem a bit forced as they never really affect what the characters do or how they do it, other than scenes here or there during the "talky" downtimes between battles.
I look forward to reading more of the author's work especially as he refines his craft.
Impossible odds, intergalactic space monsters, a post-apocalyptic setting, space vampires joining forces with earthlings, a cheeky Han Solo-esque hero with an exo suit and a badass heroine with telekinetic powers...
What’s not to like?
Another nonstop roller coaster from Luke R. Mitchell, with only one major spot of confusion (the “monster-in-a-box” sequence under the mountain: the wiggly invasion is never fully explained—it just magically disappears).
And okay, there are always niggling inconsistencies in these kinds of stories — where do people get electricity for their comms, or flour/eggs/butter/chocolate for brownies, in a post-apocalyptic world? — but these can be forgiven for sheer entertainment value.
I’m bummed this series is over. It’s been a great run.
EPIC BATTLES AND CLIMAX. Retribution is the fourth and final book in The Harvesters series. You can read this as a standalone but I don't recommend that. This book starts off where the previous one ended. There is a lot of violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. This is a futuristic thriller that has a very different take on vampires and alien life. As usual, everything and everyone is not as it seems. In the previous book, the allied groups achieved a hard fought victory of sorts. Now we get to see what happened afterwards.
Another awesome story that ties all the books together into one story of surviving, death ,and trying to piece a world together and rebuild a new and better civilization of man and rancoth. This book tell it is possible to build and learn from your failures and your enemies and in doing so you grow as one as friends who are able to stand by each other to fight or plant. I have enjoyed the series and highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
What an amazing scifi story by a superb author. Rachel and Jared are trying to help The monsters are unbelievable and the story kept me intrigued until the end. Short but great. Happy to have received a free copy
This is a wonderful conclusion to a series, so do yourself a favour and get book 1 (or the boxed set) as a starter, then read this one. You will love it all if you are into fun adventuring with a load of science fiction thrown in. Great story.
So sad!! This is the end. I really enjoyed this book. It kept my attention throughout. Just like all of the books in the series. Full of action and suspense wondering which side would win.
Once again, Luke has shown that he can fill a book with lots of action while not neglecting character development and relationships. Just the series for the action and adventure junkie, with typical guy humour.
solid 4 stars. minus a half for poor editing and another half for ending too soon. each book should of been an epic battle with a Kul or two so I could have more Jarek!!
Wow. What a finish. This story has been full of adventure and full of heart the whole time, and this finale was even more so. This is easily my favorite of the series!
I really enjoyed this series it had fun characters and world building all four books were fun. I would definitely read more by Luke r Mitchell. Anyway on to the next book
Even when all seems lost our heroes keep going. A definitely fantastic, heart wrenching, exciting, dramatic ending to the series. With heartwarming epilogue. Again, read Goodreads summary.
Whew, it seemed to take quite a while to get here even 'reading' at 1.8 speed.
Luke Mitchell describes each and every battle scene as a well choreographed ballet of action and interaction.
I was impressed with the description of how slowly and tenuously the civilizations were slowly rebuilding - starting with hamlets and villages who being to trade with one another.
I a bit disappointed to leave the mind controlling Mayor of Cheyenne mountain as a loose thread. Perhaps this is a thread latter to be pulled on in a subsequent book.
Again, I must commend Steven Barnett for his narration and vocal character development. I will seek out other books narrated by him.
As the last book in the series, I must say, it went out with a bang. Luke Mitchell did a great job winding up the end of the series. I think what I like most is that two species came together to fight a common foe. And even became friends with them. There's a deeper meaning there. Those that have been keeping up with the series...no spoiler alert here. Those that have not, start at book one and you'll find lots of interesting characters to read about. Since these people have almost nothing, they have nothing but character.
