Rate this book
Eris Blaekthorn can’t believe what she and her father find when two strangers come knocking on their door. According to the visitors, a memory spell caused them to forget a place called Havenwood Falls, including their life there and all the people in it. But when the strangers remove the spell, secrets from the past start to unravel.

Eris learns she has an older brother in the small Colorado mountain town. He’s trapped in a coma, caused by dark magic. But they don’t know who did it or how. Her father agrees to leave their home in New Mexico and return to Havenwood Falls—a place he left to keep Eris safe. There, she learns about her family history and who she really is, which becomes the biggest surprise of all.

She also meets Rylan Giles, a senior at Havenwood Falls High, and her brother’s friend. He’s beautiful and snarky, and their attraction to each other can’t be denied.

As events start to spiral and danger rises, Eris turns to Rylan for help in finding the person who spelled her brother so she can save his life.

This is a Young Adult paranormal tale in the Havenwood Falls High series of Young Adult fantasy stories featuring a variety of supernatural creatures. The series is a collaborative effort by multiple authors. Each book is generally a stand-alone, so you can read them in any order, although some authors will be writing sequels to their own stories. (RabidReads.com)Now, I know a lot of readers aren’t novella fans and I understand. However, some novellas can really be a lot of fun or even add to an existing series story line. Cameo Renae is one of my favorite authors, not only for her writing, but for her sweet online persona. In other words, she’s a sweetheart. She writes mainly for young adults and she was the first YA writer that I remember reading and enjoying, as an adult. This series is made up of novellas all set in the same mostly paranormal inhabited town. Cameo is just one of several authors involved in writing these.

Eris is seventeen and lives with her father in New Mexico. When visitors come, Eris and her father realize that their whole life is a lie-of sorts. This realization takes them to the small town of Havenwood Falls, in Colorado. Not long after they arrive, Eris is swept into a whole new life, one that’s full of witches, magic, shapeshifters, and at least one ghost. She soon discovers that dark magic is being used against those close to her. And, yes, I am being vague on purpose.

My favorite character was Eris. She may be only a teenager, but she is strong-minded and doesn’t back down when confronted with bad news or dark magic. She jumps in with both feet to try and solve problems concerning her family and is even willing to go it alone if she has to. She meets Rylan early on in the story. Rylan was taken in by a family in Havenwood Falls after losing his mother. He’s eighteen and the best looking guy Eris has ever seen-and he lives next door. He’s cocky and very sure of himself. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him at first, but he grew on me. He was extremely supportive of Eris and very protective as well. Of course, he is the love interest of this story. There’s several other characters important to the story, and they were also well realized-which is a very good thing in a novella.

This was an extremely fast read and that’s mostly due to Renae’s storytelling ability. I literally did not put it down once I started it. I was pulled into the story immediately and needed to know what was happening, so ignoring everything else, I dove in and stayed in. Another plus, there wasn’t a lot of filler like you see so often with novellas.

There’s a fair amount of action, but of course not as much as in a longer book. There’s a romance happening a bit as well. Not all of the novellas will have a sequel, but this one will have one that publishes in September. I was really happy about that, not because of a major cliffhanger though-thankfully! There are a few loose ends, and people and situations I want to know more about so, of course, I want to read the sequel.

Highly recommended to people that enjoy young adult paranormal books, ages 14 plus. And just a heads up, none of this one takes place in a high school, although the sequel might.

Another very entertaining story in the Havenwood Falls High novella series. A forgotten life, jealous witches, a hidden heritage, revenge and danger, will keep you turning the pages in this thrilling novella. You can’t help but become attached to Eris as she finds out that life has hidden aspects she could never even of dreamed of, especially when she discovers her inner strength. I loved the slowly smouldering attraction between Rylan and her and can’t wait to read more of his story in a future novella.

Bound by Shadows is A Havenwood Falls High Novella by Cameo Renae.

“This is a Young Adult paranormal tale in the Havenwood Falls High series of Young Adult fantasy stories featuring a variety of supernatural creatures. The series is a collaborative effort by multiple authors. Each book is generally a stand-alone, so you can read them in any order, although some authors will be writing sequels to their own stories. Please be aware when you choose your next read.”

This was a book that captured my attention from the first page...strangers turn up at Eris' front door, strangers that turn out to be family that she knows nothing about. They need to talk to her and her father about a brother that she knew nothing about and that her father had forgotten about. The pair used to live in Havenwood Falls and when anybody leaves there, for the safety of the other supernatural residents a spell is put on them making them forget everything about the place and its people there.

The spell that was placed on Eris and her father is taken off by the visitors and when they are told that they are needed back in Havenwood Falls they are only too happy to comply. They need to find out who has put Eris' brother in a coma and try to get the spell lifted.

Apart from the main storyline I also enjoyed seeing Eris learn about her past and embrace the supernatural person that she is. I love the emotional scenes where she interacts with visions of dead family members too. They were written so well that you could really feel the emotions that were going through Eris at the time. She also finds herself attracted to her brother's best friend, he makes her feel safe, but he also makes her want to just grab him and kiss him. He plays a large part in helping her stay safe when she finds out who has hurt her brother and when she has to find a way to break the spell.

This book was only a novella, but it was full of exciting content which kept me reading as quickly as I could to find out just how it was going to end. This is definitely one of the best of this series, and I recommend it 100%.

Another hit for the Havenwood Falls High Series!!!

Bound by Shadows is a Novella by Cameo Renae. I have to admit that I wasn't sure about several authors writing with a cohesive vision of a complex and diverse setting like this series, but I'm blown away with each installment. Each novella is stand alone and builds one every other story and characters. With each novella, I can't wait to read more and find out more of the hidden secrets that are so a part of this world. In this installment we find a seventeen year old Eris living with her father in New Mexico. Eris is surprised by an impromptu visit from family she didn't know existed and quickly realizes the odd new powers she's been experiencing are only the tip of the iceberg. Memories unlocked, family in danger, a trip to a home forgotten, more secrets uncovered and one really hot jerk named Rylan Gilles are all packed into an amazing addition to this wonderful series. Seamlessly meshes with the rest of the Havenwood Falls world.

As part of Kristie Cooks Review Crew I was pleased to be offered the chance to read an advance review copy of Bound by Shadows. I had not come across Cameo Renae or her work before now, so this is a first sight review of both book and author.

What if you had a family and a history you knew nothing about? Eris Blaekthorn lives this life, at least until two strangers visit her home in New Mexico. Eris discovers a family and a history she knew nothing about. Arriving in Havenwood Falls Eris learns more than she could ever have imagined about herself and the family she never knew she had.

As with the other novellas I have read and reviewed which fall within the Havenwood Falls High series, the intended target audience is far younger than I am and this may well contribute to the fact that whilst I enjoyed the story I didn’t necessarily enjoy it as much as some of the other novellas, however I do hope to hear more from Blaekthorn Lumber and Supply.

Another great book by another great author. This story is the most emotional book I have read yet, but it is emotional in a great way. This book is focusing on Eris and her family, The Blaekthron’s. Without giving away too much I think this book was great especially at the end. Eris and her father moved away from Havenwood Falls for reasons you will find out in the book when for some reason they had to go back years later. It seems that when ever anyone leaves Havenwood Falls for some reason or another they always return which is a good thing. I gave this book a 5-star rating because it was that good (as all of the books in Havenwood Falls and Havenwood Falls High Series). Thumbs up to Cameo Renae’ for her mad writing skills.

I love these stories and this little supernatural town.
Eris Blaekthorn grew up with her dad not knowing about the past or the small town they came from. After finding out that her brother Camden was in some sort of coma, Eris and her father travel back to Havenwood Falls and reunite with a family Eris doesn’t remember.
Rylan is Camden’s best friend and soon-to-be protector to Eris. As secrets from the past are explained, Eris learns of the threat to her family and finds the strength in herself to conquer it.
This story was very entertaining and fast read. Can’t wait for the next authors set of characters.

Exceptional!!

Wow, that words packs a lot when y oy talk about these Havenwood Falls stories. I have come to love this little town and the characters in this book just add too it. All of these authors know how to pull you into the book and get you so wrapped up you believe you are right there in the town.

This boom will make you sit on the edge of your seat and wonder what is going on and in the next moment your emotions are so wrapped up in the characters stories you find yourself crying.

If you have not started this book collection you need to ask yourself what you are waiting for.

Until Next Time... Tabi

Loving this series so much, each book I read just gets better and lets me feel more like a person from town than an outsider. Eris gets one heck of a surprise when a stranger knocks no the door one evening. So she and her dad head back to Havenwood Falls and reunite with much forgotten family members. She even meets her older brother's best friend Rylan a total hottie. Things get serious and dangerous for those she loves and she turns to Rylan to help her save her brother and father.
Can't wait to see what comes next, especially for Rylan!

This was pretty good. It held my interest while I subconsciously made links to other Havenwood stories. I did figure out some things early on but that didn't negate from the story which was well told.

The scene with the girl who kept saying "like", like made my eyes roll. Note to author: That was annoying. Please squash future urges to use that type of speech pattern in your stories and avoid that kind of thing in the future.

While these shorter stories don't seem to allow for building much depth of emotion or character, this one did okay.

I have been reading the Havenwood Falls series and I decided to jump over to Havenwood Falls High to see what was going on there. I was not disappointed, as a matter of fact if the rest of these novellas are as good as this one I may even like this branch of the series better! Cameo Renae did an excellent job of letting us get to know these characters and having them deal with some major issues without leaving major gaps in her story or making it feel rushed. I loved the characters, and this is definitely one of the best written novellas I have read.

I swear this series is brilliant and it's all because the authors put as much thought and feeling towards them as they would a full novel. This was one of my favorites, and not just because I may be biased when it comes to Cameo Renae books, nope, it's because it had everything you would want and more. I was hooked from page one and couldn't put it down. I so need more of these characters but loved what was given for this installment.

Eris has had a somewhat normal life up until she and her father has to go back to Havenwood Falls. Mystery surrounds her return, as well as the people who are introduced into her new life. Eris has an interesting connection to the charming and handsome Rylan. I truly enjoyed their banter. Can't wait to read more about them and what happens with the pack. If I could give more stars I would. Had me hooked line and sinker.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Eris is an amazing young woman experiences several things she can’t explain, when she finally finds out the truth she steps up to the plate to save her family.

I really hope there is another book in the pipe so we get to find out what happens to Rylan

Good story

Gah! I wish this was a full novel and not a novella. The story line is great. But there’s a huge chunk that was just breezed over with minimal explanation. Overall it’s still a good story.

Another great addition to the Havenwood Falls series. Eris is a wolf shifter who doesn't know what/who she is or the details of her past. When trouble befalls her brother, Eris and her dad's memories are returned and they move back to Havenwood Falls.

My only complaint about the book, is that I wish it was longer. Overall a fast paced, yet informative novella in the Havenwood Series. Had a little bit of everything, witches, wolves, and magic.
