Inspiring and a bit kooky (which is a good thing here)
There are some good ideas in this book and it is definitely inspiring and motivating. The editing is not great but the book was such a quick read that I easily got over it. I utilized several of the ideas immediately and can’t wait for the morning so I can get going on some of the other ideas. The “kooky” aspect is actually funnier than kooky. I was amused to read the ideas about thanking my possessions for what they do for me. But once I actually said it out loud, I felt pretty good about it, so “kooky” is a good thing here. I will more than likely be reading my highlights several times because I truly want to remember what I read.
A lot of my friends have been raving about Marie Kondo and her show/book. After reading the reviews on the book, I thought a summary would be best for me. While there are some things that I agree with and some suggestions that I can definitely put into place, I wasn't a big fan of everything...nor did I agree with her style on things....however to each their own and if this helps people declutter then great!
When I going the audio, I didn’t realize it was a summary and not the book itself. I just finished Kondo’s actual book. This summary leaves out the essence of her work, and is without her charm and wit. Her book is a quick read and a summary is a waste of money.
I loved Kondo’s actual book and it is already helpful.
I already read Marie Kondo's Book - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, but it's been a minute and I thought I'd save time by reading this summary instead. Not sure it saved much time, but it did give me what I needed concisely, which was what I needed.
I liked the strategies listed but I wanted more approaches to tidying and organizing. I also wanted more for long term application. I did have a few take away key phrases!
I noticed that it addresses a few reasons people may or may not clutter up their space but only a couple suggestions were given. I have seen first hand how people hold onto so much stuff because they feel that it holds some great value. They feel that they could get a dollar here or there for it, instead of freeing themselves of the items. Things pile up beyond measure, especially with a procrastinator who never attempt to sell the reserved items to sell.
One good book. My take home notes: - keep those that spark joy - ask what should i keep rather that asking what should i throw away. - doing at minimal distraction- avoid tv, and radio while doing something. focus on one thing. - sorting and storing - like and like - same thing together. - tidiness will built confident, make you become happy. - enjoy space, buying things is an extra baggage that wont actually make you happy.
(Audio version) I guess this was about what I expected. A good summary and I had a couple of takeaways (don't roll socks, they will never be free and will lose their elasticity).. and some really strange ones (don't leave your sponges in the sink, but let them dry outside... ummm...). The narrator's voice was a bit monotone and really lacked the essence of Marie Kondo. It was almost hard to get through.
I have been wanting to tidy up for a long time. After watching the Netflix series with Marie Kondo and reading her book and this summary, I feel energized about it and am ready to tackle the steps. The first step in anything is always the hardest and most scary....so here it goes!!
After watching the complete season of her show, reading this book just emphasized everything. I loved reading and her explanations in this book which is so detailed.
This book just made perfect sense. It is enabling me to Declutter my home and set it in order. I am implementing these techniques to live a better life and have a cleaner home.
Love Marie Kondo!!! So many helpful tips and getting to only keep that items that genuinely bring you joy is a genius idea. Quick and easy read, and I marked down all kinds of new ways I plan to organize my newly married life.
