When a long time elderly resident of Sinful dies of an apparent heart attack, Fortune suspects foul play. Prior to her death, Emma Peterson had recently come into money. Despite Emma’s heart condition, Fortune cannot bring herself to accept the ruling of death by natural causes.

When the deceased woman’s eccentric brother and sister arrive from Vermont to make funeral arrangements,
Fortune finds that they have an interesting background, and suspicions of their own. Together, the three of them embark on an investigative roller coaster ride, filled with twists and turns, and a few fumbles along the
way. After an exhaustive search for the killer concludes, a suspect is remanded into custody, but may be released on a technicality. Fortune turns to her old friends, Ida Belle and Gertie, to develop a plan they hope will snatch victory from certain defeat.

PRAISE FOR MARK LEN MAYFIELD'S FORTUNE AND PRIDE:
I hope Mr. Mayfield continues writing about Fortune and her friends. In my opinion, he is the best, other than Ms. DeLeon to write about the Miss Fortune Series. No one is as good as Miss DeLeon, but he is really good. I hope he writes more books in this series while we wait for another one from Ms. DeLeon.

Mark Mayfield's style resonates with me on many levels. He has an easy flow and a wonderful skill in setting up the storyline and scenery. I connected with the many odd and lovable characters. I've read his previous work and his storytelling is getting better and better. I zipped through this story, anxious to find out the relationship and love story of two of the characters. You will likely race through the story because of the natural feel of the writing. It was well written, presented with clarity and leaves open for more great books by the author.

I thought the author did a fabulous job portraying the characters and absolutely fell in love with Ida Belle and Gertie. They literally stole the show. This book (Fortune and Pride) is a fast, fun and entertaining read.

"Devil's Helmet" by Mark Len Mayfield, is another fun mystery set in the Kindle World's Miss Fortune series. I thoroughly enjoy this series and the author does another fantastic job. This book was unique in that there was the addition of another sleuthing team in the form of Victor and Bessie. These two were a riot and equaled, and sometimes surpassed, the antics of Ida Belle and Gertie.

When a friend of Fortune's, and a long-time resident of Sinful, dies of what appears to be a natural cause, Fortune is immediately suspicious, as this person had recently come into quite a bit of money. From this point on, things move quickly, as they usually do for this intrepid group of investigators, and amidst a lot of frolic and tomfoolery, the case is cracked.

Each time a new book in this series is released, I'm so happy, because I know it will provide a few hours of escapist pleasure and it won't disappoint. It's not necessary to have read the other books in this series to enjoy this one, but I'm sure you'll want to read them all once you start. These books are as addictive as doughnuts - you have one, but then you've just gotta sneak another one in.

I have now read a few of these stories by this author and this one I enjoyed most of all. The regular characters are back, joining a couple of newbies who prove to be interesting as well. Once again, the crime solving aspect of the story proves intriguing. It left me fulfilled and more than ready to read the next chapter in this particular writer's Miss Fortune setting. Great stuff.

Love, love, love!

I absolutely love this series! Fortune has lost a dear friend which broke my heart, but she has also made some new friends as well. As always there is comedy, action, and a dash of love tossed in.
Definitely a must read!

One of my favorite guest authors

Of the many other authors who contribute to this series Mr. Mayfield is one of my favorites. He continues with the main characters and weaves a series of intrigue and chaos into his story.
