OK girls, I'm telling you, 3 and 4-star trashy romances DO exist! Actually, of the two books within this one, I've only read the second, "My Hero," and true to form for Debbie Macomber, it isn't trashy. It's not even really a great romance, but it IS humorous. The heroine, an aspiring authoress, finds a man she thinks would be the perfect hero for the book she's writing. So she starts stalking him, the better to observe what a real hero does. The story has all the communication entanglements of any Mills & Boone novel worth the name, but the amusing dialog makes up for it. It was here that I learned that real men--real heroes, that is--don't drink blush wine, something I think every woman should be aware of. So you see, this book is educational as well as amusing.
2 cute stories perfect for Valentine's day. The first, a mom ,alone for several years, needs a date for a dance.the second, a woman is trying to write a romance novel and needs inspiration for her hero.
I'd never read any Debbie Macomber books prior to this and after seeing a shelf full at the local library, thought I'd pick a few up and give them a go. Loved it, light hearted & funny. I'm sure more than a few of us can relate to some of the moments that are so heart warming. 2 romance stories in one with parts that made me chuckle from time to time. Recommended read.
Two Debbie Macomber romance stories combined into one book.
I decided to read this book because I wanted a feel good romance for Valentine’s Day. With this book I had mixed reactions.
The first story My Funny Valentine was cute, and also humorous. Dianne is a single mother who is under pressure from her mother and kids to start dating again. With Valentine’s around the corner, she enlists the help of tow truck driver Steve to be her date.
What’s supposed to be just one date, turns into romance as Steve and Dianne find themselves falling for each other. Yet, Dianne’s fears could prevent her from moving on again.
Steve was the perfect gentleman as he went out of his way to woo Dianne. However, with Dianne I found her to be stubborn at times. I understood her fear, yet during some scenes I wanted to scream at her to stop being a fool and give Steve a chance.
The story ended perfectly and I loved the surprise twist that Macomber included.
As for the next story My Hero, I was intrigued by this one because the main character Bailey is a romance novelist. She enlists the help of Parker to be her muse for the hero in her novel. Of course sparks fly between the couple, yet Bailey’s fears of getting heartbroken again keep her from finding happiness.
Bailey much like Dianne in My Funny Valentine is stubborn. It’s obvious Parker is in love with her, but she keeps pushing him away.
Bailey keeps the story entertaining with her hijinks, at the beginning she and her friend trail Parker from the subway to his work so she can learn more about him. Although, her behavior was stalkerish, I thought it was a funny scene.
Much like the first story, I loved how My Hero ended.
While I had trouble with the actions of the heroines, I did enjoy the stories and it did provide feel good moments for anyone who loves romance.
“Be My Valentine” By Debbie Macomber Review by Sydney Linke
The book “Be my valentine” by Debbie Macomber, is a book with two shorter stories in it called “My funny valentine” and “My Hero”, but I am only going to review “My Hero”. This story is about an author named Bailey York that lives in San Francisco, California. She is writing a romance novel, and needs a real life model male hero to help her fix what is wrong with her main character Michael. That is where Parker Davidson comes in… At first, Bailey was following him around secretly, watching him for research for her hero, but after he caught her, he agreed to help her. And, all through the book, they develop a romantic relationship, that Bailey didn’t want. This is because in the past, she has had two heartbreaks, and would not let herself have a chance at a third. But, Parker wouldn’t give up and really tried to get closer to her, and it may be working. But, the real questions is will Parker get Bailey to break down her walls? Or will he finally give up on her and move on? Well, I guess you will have to read the book to find out.
I really like this book because it is amazingly romantic, and is a very good book. I would recommend this book for three reasons. First, if you like romance, this is an amazing book that you should read. Second, it has something about it that makes you want to keep reading, and never stop. Lastly, It will give you many different emotions, that you probably didn’t think a book could give you. It will give you happiness, angriness, heart breaking emotions, and so much more. Overall, I would give this book five stars for all of those reasons.

My Hero: Bailey is writing a romance novel and needs help with her male character. On the train she spots a man that looks like a hero, she stalks him to gather information for her novel. They meet and have an interesting relationship. My Funny Valentine: Dianne, divorced mom. Her mom and her children want her to attend a Valentine's dance. Not having much luck finding a date. When she locks her keys in her car and calls a towtruck driver, she asks him to the dance and offers to pay him. Boy, does this backfire!! Her entire family thinks he is just perfect for her.
This book had two stories: "My Funny Valentine" and "My Hero". I definitely liked the first one better. It was a cute, fun, short story. I kept laughing at the situations they fell into. The second one felt forced. The main character was too neurotic for my taste.
This was my first Macomber book and look forward to reading more.
Romance, clean Two cute romantic reads. A bit dated in how the characters acted, but that being said, they were both fun reads. Cute falls, and genuine, honest characters with hurting hearts who learned to love again. Both of the books had interesting premises and there was definite chemistry with the characters. Perfect fix for me today!
My funny valentine is so cute. I like how my hero ended but I felt like it was dragging in. I found these little romance books at my grandmothers house and I thought I’d give it ago. I do wish the author but more into my funny Valentine. Other than that I give it 4 stars
Such a good book, it only took me 2 days to finish. I was so addicted, I highly recommend to people, mostly around my age 20odds, I also am a fan of Debbie macomber and I’m obsessed with reading a fair share of her books
2 short stories where a woman approaches a handsome man to help her out. The first as a date for a valentines dinner in town and the second as a model for the hero in her romance novel. Some laugh out loud moments in both.
I really liked it. Especially the second story. It was longer than the first and I loved the fact that she was trying to write a romance and she was experiencing a romance at the same time.
