Holly freaking Gods what a book!!! Man this is one amazing book. This is so well-written and thought out as well as Dam hard to put down once you start reading it. This story that is told with excellent writing skills by Rodgers – and I love the skillful use of vocabulary and plotting the events with the right pace, making this a truly believable story. If you thought that we have done enough damage to Earth for greedy purposes, Project Catchstar makes you re-think that opinion. In this book, they want to go into the space and start mining precious minerals. I’ve always wondered why we are so eager to explore the cosmos; especially when there are there is a chance we may find other life forms out there. And they may not be the nice kind. But in this book Rodgers puts forth another Idea. we are not going there for the life, we are going there for the money! Claire, an archaeologist and a diver with a troublesome past is the perfect hero. When she finds a meteorites has fallen deep down into the sea. She is astonished. But her past problems catch her and now she may finally be on her way to solve them. Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too
I love a book that is centered around a strong female! Claire Everston fits that bill to a T and then some! Project Catchstar is M. Rodgers debut book, and let me tell you that I can’ Tait to see what she comes up for her next book! In Project Catchstar, Claire is in the process of moving on from her past when she learns that her previous mentor has disappeared, not only that but now Claire is challenged with not only finding her mentor but keeping herself alive while doing so since whoever kidnapped her mentor is now out to keep her silent about anything that she knows! I had a great time following Claire as she went on her thrilling dang at times scary adventure. The characters in this book are relatable, and the storyline of fantastic! I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a pleasant diversion, no matter what your normal reading preference is! It’s definitely worth the time!
This was a fun ride. I cared enough about the main character to want her to do well. She jumps to conclusions a little too fast and is really impulsive, but given her history that makes sense.
There's a fair amount of violence. I don't remember most of it being fatal. There's also a lot of cursing. After awhile it became a little like white noise to me, and it wasn't really making much of an impression. If foul language bothers you, I might suggest taking a look at the sample. I found that to be a good indication for the rest of the book.
The mystery was interesting and held my attention, and the resolution was good. Not everything is wrapped up at the end of the story, but there was enough closure in the ending to leave me satisfied with the way things worked out. All in all, I liked the story enough so that I'll likely be interested in a sequel.
M. Rodgers’, “Project Catchstar (The Claire Everston Adventures Book 1),” is a dramatic and mystery styled novel that takes on quite a bit of content. Claire is an archeologist who ends up being betrayed and dishonored because of her previous mentor, so she tries to run away from her problems. She stops at nothing to try and better her life, but she catches wind of her mentor having gone missing along with her own discovery that puts her in harms way. Claire ends up being pursued both politically and physically in order to prevent her from exposing the knowledge she has discovered. She is pushed harder and harder as she tries to maintain her dignity and prove her discoveries to be true. The novel is a good mix of drama, as well as some danger, but there are some great twists and turns that keep you guessing for what is going to happen next, instead of being predictable.
Fantastic opener for a series! An extremely difficult book to put down and a must read. Wonderful science, adventure and mystery book. I found that the author really knows their details and uses this information to make a fantastic story. The details and information provided throughout this story really bring it to life for me. I found that I just had to keep reading to find out what was going on. I really liked the character development in this book and really felt that I knew the main characters. I really look forward to reading the next book in this series and will be buying it soon as it becomes available. I found that the author does a wonderful job of keeping the reader engaged the whole time and that I spend the entire book from beginning to end on the edge of me seat.
Fast paced, packed with action and intrigue. The characters are well developed and the tropical settings made me a touch jealous, I rather wanted to jump into the ocean alongside Claire. Enjoyed the wry humour too.
Well written (air tanks mistakenly called oxygen tanks instead of air tanks excepted) and quite polished for a debut novel. I'll definitely be pouncing on the next book when it appears to see what adventure Claire, Joe and co find themselves tangled up in next time.
I received an Advanced Reader eCopy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
While I enjoyed the overall storyline I found myself flinching at some of the terminology used. For example, describing a Spec Ops person as an agent. When I hear that word the FBI and DEA spring to mind, not what we in the military refer to as an operator (Spec Ops). Another example, referring to a SCUBA cylinder as an oxygen tank. Only a non-diver would make such a mistake. It's a compressed air tank (breathing pure oxygen would kill you if you dove below 33 feet of sea water due to oxygen toxicity). Sometimes the devil's in the details. It just took away from my enjoyment of the book. Despite that I look forward to the next installment.
A story of Claire Everston an archeologist who was betrayed by her mentor and on the run for months, but when she learned that her mentor is missing, she has to get back to find her mentor and to save her life as she may be next for holding some information. The book is her journey to fight back, survive challenges and deal with murky politics. An interesting plot with developing characters, especially Claire, who first wants to hide, but then gives it all back. Good job as first book!
This was sent to me by hiddengems.com in exchange for my honest review and don't want to thank them and the author for such a great book. The characters are that easy and the events that are taken throughout are something that I hope you will want to adventure along with. I finished this on Christmas and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well...
Project Catchstar is the first novel from the series of novels about the “adventures’’ of Claire Everston written by Mary Rodgers. A call from the past reminds our protagonist about the events she thought to be long forgotten. Claire had something from her past she did not want to remember. However, destiny seems to have different plans for her. When she finds out that her former mentor has gone missing and that it is very unclear how did he disappear and where to search, Claire does not have a choice. Moreover, her former mentor seems to be connected with something that is named as the “Project Catchstar.’’ The novel’s premises are good as they can be. When we add the fact that there is some unknown and possible sinister discovery from underneath the depths of the ocean we do not anything about, the novel becomes a real page-turner. Another thing that adds a more “personal’’ experience to the entire novel is the fact that most of the novel is written from 1st person perspective, something which definitely adds even more of “my own personal experience filled with tension and fear’’ element. Another thing that I like about this novel is that it felt like watching an awesome movie about secret discoveries, mysterious disappearances and a female character that will get everything solved. I like that a lot. Since this novel is a debut novel from Mrs. Rodgers and that the novel showed so much potential, this is a clear sign that the author definitely knows how to write an interesting and overall promising novel. Keep up with the great work!
Rodgers' debut thriller is the perfect mix of science and suspense. Lyrical prose, a fast-paced adventure, a gritty first-person POV from a tough-as-nails heroine, and well-researched and beautifully detailed settings keep the pages of Project Catchstar turning. You get a real sense of place and personality. Plus, Claire's connection with her mysterious friend Joe sizzles. I can't wait to see more of Claire Everston.
This appears to be the first of a planned series featuring archaeologist Clare Everston. Project Catchstar sets up a lot of back story and leads Clare on a dangerous journey to clear her name and solve a number of mysteries.
