A great overview of the current state of Laos and its people. If you're at all interested in their religions, work force, politics, economics, or daily life you'll find it here. Written in 2014, this was still front and center in a Vientiane bookstore in Nov 2017. It's on Amazon.uk for 30 pounds, but is far cheaper in local bookstores if you'll be visiting the country.
