The new mystery from USA Today bestselling author AJ Stewart goes full throttle!
In the aftermath of a hurricane, Miami Jones wants nothing more than to clean up his house and his favorite bar. He doesn't want a new case. He doesn't need a new case. But when the daughter of a NASCAR legend comes calling, Miami must buckle up for the ride of his life.
Series praise: "...strong, unstereotyped, and engaging..." Kirkus Reviews
"a well-balanced mix of intrigue, dry humor, and wit . . ." Manhattan Book Review
"Robert B. Parker meets Carl Hiaasen." - Bookbub
"A five-star romp by one of the best mystery writers around." - Charles Ray Reviews
A.J. Stewart has lived in so many places it feels like he has a home team in every game he sees. Which explains why his wife begins any sports telecast with "who are going for today?" A.J. and his family currently spend their time in Los Angeles and South Florida, but stay tuned, anything could happen.
Mystery and no murders! Incredible detail and characters you love!
So refreshing to not have blood and guts as the foundation for a truly entertaining read! The development of the kead characters continues as the thread holding the series together. New characters to care about. Faith restored by the depth of humanity running thru every page! More please!!
"No Right Turn," no left turn, no turns at all - just a straight, smooth, soft ride to the obvious end be it with nice pretty people engaged in an ordinary story. The setting, NASCAR racing in Florida . . . no wait! Well it is about NASCAR but there is no racing . . . but there is a hurricane during which no one is hurt. There is no murder. no theft, no crime of any kind and sex is absent as well. It's about the good old boys who love cars, their estranged women, and related shenanigans - an easy read but not a crime story or thriller, perhaps a smattering of drama.
Collector-cars (think Jay Leno divided by 10) are missing, thought stollen, and Jones is hired to find them. He did, and they were with the people who hired him. It wasn't about insurance claims - an immature red herring - but about need, one family member for the other. Take his cars, he will turn his attention and possibly toward you. Did it work? I snoozed the entire book and still don't know.
A well written mystery in the Miami Jones, P.I., series.
This one, like so many of Stewart's other MJ novels, involves a sport (NASCAR).
Several red herrings but MJ will not be deterred from finding the missing car collection. A couple side plots involving dealing with Palm Beach County and the declaration of his home being deemed uninhabitable and with an insurance company that won't pay the damage claim for the hurricane damage.. (King Tide). Keeps the story moving right along without bogging down with useless verbiage.
While reading the earlier books helps, not really necessary. Someone stepping into the series here would not have the background of the relationships, but it won't take away from the story itself.
Miami, NASCAR and Cuban sandwiches!! Makes be miss my home County and driving to Daytona to see a race!! Miami has been contacted, to find cars stolen from a famous NASCAR racer/owner's home in Palm Beach during a hurricane. Meanwhile Miami has to deal with the problem of his own home being condemned, under strange circumstances, while dealing with this 'who done it". Being born and raised in Palm Beach County, makes me love these stories, even more!! P.S. If you ever get to West Palm Beach, you gotta try an AMAZING Cuban sandwich at Havana's!!
# 8 in the series and I hope AJ Stewart has a lot more ideas in mind. You do not need to have read any of the other books to thoroughly enjoy this one. If you read King Tide, #7 in the series, you know that the Keys had a hurricane and Miami was right in the middle of it. Never a dull moment. Well when the hurricane passes, the cleanup begins. Plenty of it. A nifty sidebar subplot, someone is trying to buy Miami's house and the insurance company doesn't want to pay the claim for hurricane damage. Not one to sit on his thumbs, he is hired to find a very collectible car of unknown ownership. A perfect blend of supporting characters makes this an action packed story!
Wow! Another great Miami Jones book. This one takes up right where the last one left off. Miami goes home after braving the hurricane to check on his house. Then he gets a job looking for a stolen car. Since I'm a NASCAR follower, this was an especially enjoyable read. But then I haven't been disappointed yet by one of A.J. Stewart's books. Miami reminds me so much of Nelson DeMille's John Corey. The way he sees things and his humor makes me chuckle. This was very well thought and had me hooked right up to the end. Looking forward to the next one. Wonder what's in store for Miami, Danielle and the rest of the crew. Great read for sure!
Another great Miami Jones adventure. Nice to read a story from this series without a fist, or a gun raised. All the usual characters help Miami to solve a mysterious theft from a NASCAR hero. As a big motorsports fan, great to read a book with an insight into the world, without a single cliche, that you always seem to find in any books that include racing. Thoroughly recommended.
Book number 8 in The Miami Jones series had a very interesting storyline. Jones is dealing with the aftermath of the latest Hurricane which almost destroyed his house. He is hired by a NASCAR legend to recover a number of priceless cars that were stolen during the Hurricane. Jones has to deal with Multi Millionaires and the Insurance Company that doesn't want to honor his claim. Great storyline.
One thing I love about these books besides the unique cases to be solved is the constant presence of baseball parallels. This one added another sport, NASCAR, which was a big part of my earlier life. Not only do I get the feel of my much loved Robert B. Parker's Spenser stories (Jesse Stone, too), I get sports fixes as a bonus! The cast of characters is wonderful, all good and loyal friends. Oh yes, I will now eagerly dive into the next one!
I am always entertained while reading a Miami Jones book. This time was certainly no exception. The character was perfectly on point with his brashness and sarcasm. That is what makes the way he boils everything down as it goes even better. The man is no dumb jock. Keep them coming. Look forward to the next. Fun book.
I have really enjoyed this series and reading what for now is that last book in the series feels like moving to a new town and leaving your friends behind - you can always revisit, but it’s never the same. Great book, great fun and I hope the ride doesn’t end anytime soon.
He ought to be yours, too! Start at Book #1 and read all of them in order. Stewart's writing is so consistent that they will feel like one continuing story. You'll get to know the characters like they're your friends. And you'll enjoy the time you spend together.
Miami Jones is a believable character! He works for all the clues and evidence he needs to wrap up the case! This is the 8th book in the series and these characters keep evolving and doing the work to get the job done! This explains a lot about NASCAR that goes on off the track and what teams do between races. There is much to discover about what happened and why.
I’ve read a few books in the Miami Jones series and this is my favorite so far! They’ve all been good, but this one moved along nicely and it was really great! I love that Miami is not only an investigator, but he’s also a decent human who wants the people he meets to have good lives too. There’s always a resolution and loads of kindness in his cases.
This storyline starts out with MJ' s home being condemned after the hurricane moved on. The speed picks up chasing leads on missing "collector automobiles" stolen from NASCAR royalty. Miami and Lucas find themselves in a stock car running 150mph!
Great read. Story was well written along with a fine cast of story were well developed and interacted very well. Always a fan of Miami Jones and this book really stays in character. Can't wait until next book in this series. Thank You, A.J.Stewart.
Love this series. I always buy these books and blow through them in a day or two. This story was no different. Fun and fast paced with just the right amount of humor. Can't wait for book 9
If Danielle didn't have a ring on it, I would be on a plane to Miami. I love these characters. Great book, the flow of the writing hooks me from the beginning. Hurry , I need more Miami Jones in my life.
Another great read on a summer day. Miami Jones and pals look out for the ultra rich from Florida to North Carolina in this fast page turner. Can’t wait for the next book
Stewart does his homework. His golf story was accurate, and now the racing NASCAR was spot-on. Jones carries on the tradition of Travis McGee. John D. would you be proud.
I have read this entire series with Miami Jones. This is one of the best. Great instructional story line. Exciting until the end. Wish I could find more authors like this.
Another great book in the series . Lots of twists and turns which kept me guessing right to the last . I won’t include any spoilers but highly recommend the whole series . If you enjoy detective mysteries then you will really enjoy this . Makes me want to explore Florida.
This book grabbed right from the beginning, and did not let go. Solid characters, logical scenario, and a satisfying finish. I will definitely put this author on my “must read” list.
This was my first introduction to Miami Jones and his version of Florida. Living in the State myself, I find the author pretty spot-on. Now I'm heading for the first seven books I missed. Excellent Florida beach reading or even if you can't be here.
Mr Stewart hooked me with the first Miami Jones and I find them even more entertaining as they go. At this stage I am on for all seventeen and only hope he puts out a couple more.
The author ran dangerously close to Agatha Christie territory with the last entry, but got back on track, this time. The reader is always learning something new, not a bad thing.
Miami is hired to find a group of valuable cars belonging to a NASCAR team owner. The cars went missing during the hurricane described in the previous book. Lots of twists and turns in the plot keep the story interesting. A great read.
First time reading this author and series. It was good but references to previous situations and people made me think it may be better to read them in order (as I did not). Nonetheless, it had good characters and a fast paced storyline. I may just go back to the first book!
I liked this Miami Jones book, as it took Miami on a different adventure. It was interesting for him to include Lucas on his investigation/trip. The tales about Lucas are always fascinating.
great storytelling and detective work, of course connections are great- I wish I had a few (been a victim of some fraud myself ) this is a real life sort of series for you to lose yourself in
