When Toria Miller realized her only option to get away from her over-amorous employer was to escape from Beckham, Massachusetts, her first thought was to become a mail order bride. After talking to her niece, the matchmaker for the only agency in town, she chose a letter and embarked on a journey that would take her all the way to Creede, Colorado. When Toria arrived, she was excited to start her new life with her husband, the owner of the mercantile. Mortimer Jackson was blessed with the perfect wife. Now that he’s a widower, he’s convinced he needs someone just like his first wife. He runs a mercantile in Creede, Colorado, and though his new bride doesn’t look like he expected, he hopes she’ll be just like his Grace. It doesn’t take him long to realize his new bride is nothing like the first. How will he be able to accept anything less than the perfection he had the first time? Is their marriage doomed from the very beginning?
I love how this book had more info about the previous characters and I especially love that the angel was for both of them, for a great reason! I wish I had her energy!
Throughout the earliest stories in the Cowboys and Angels series we’ve heard the local mercantile, Mortimer, speak of ordering himself a mail order bride from back East… one day. It came as no surprise to readers, like me, who have followed the Brides of Beckham series as well as to who he was referring to. Well, Mortimer went and sent off his letter, and although it seems that he’s looking for a good marriage what isn’t in that letter is that he’s looking for a wife just like Grace who died about five years ago. Maybe he didn’t even realize it himself, but he certainly was imagining how this unknown woman would do things and look like his first wife. Mortimer is in for a surprise for he’s about to get not the wife he wanted but the wife that he truly needs thanks to Elizabeth’s matchmaking skills and a little help from an angel.
Toria headed to Creede, Colorado with high hopes and and even higher nerves. She trusted her niece Elizabeth’s matchmaking talents, but this was a huge step far from home. She didn’t expect to love her husband on first sight but she certainly didn’t expect to feel that her very existence disappointed her groom either. It’s going to take some encouragement form an angel who knows Mortimer well and some of Toria’s own talents in the kitchen along with her outgoing personality to turn this situation around. It’s going to be a rocky road to a happy ending for this couple, not because of outside dangers but because of Mortimer’s difficulties in letting the image of his first wife go. We’ll run into several now old friends again, watch a young man face his own demons and win, as well as move the series along with mention of other characters we’ll meet along the way. I had fun with Mail Order Merchant and would recommend this story and series to any Western Historical Romance reader who enjoys a good love story, likable characters, and that special magic that surrounds a couple who is perfect for each other – once they realize it that is.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Toria is a 32-year-old spinster who is being hounded by her recently widowed boss to marry him. When he accounts her in an alley she is saved by the butler of her niece, a matchmaker. Mortimer is the owner of the mercantile in Creede. He lost his wife 5 years before and is starting to get lonely. After talking to his friend he decides to send away for a mail order bride. When Toria arrives in Creede, she sees that her new husband is unhappy with her. Will she be able to prove her worth and get Mortimer to love her or will she be as unhappy as a wife as she was as a spinster? Her guardian angel will have something to say about it.
As usual another Kirsten Osborne and it's well written. If I see another new book by her I will always read them. She is one of my favorite authors. I have loved her work for a while. She makes you look for her next books. Although I l love times gone stories. If your info contemporary stories of knights and castles she writes those. I'm sure she doesn't disappoint. If your like me and love old Americana then start with Brides of Beckham. Follow her the flower sisters. Then the state's books. The angels and cowboys. Then the ABC stories. You'll love them all.
This is a story of a an Angel and her choice of the new wife for her husband. Its about the angel picking her husband's wife. It had to be just the right on. The shop keeper who had mourned his first wife for 5 years and was finally ready to move on. Its about how misunderstandings, and worry can be had to get past, but in the end all is well. Their angel was happy to see her family move on to a much better life.
Hero: Mortimer --- Heroine: Toria Reading Enjoyment:4.5* I enjoyed reading this engaging love story that is well written with loveable characters, and was an exciting/ tantalizing story There is an element of faith, and angels which seems to be key to this series. As this is book 5 another new angel was introduced, I like that it's not all the same angles in each story.
Another Kristen Osbourne winner. It's truly amazing how she manages to keep all of these story lines straight. She weaves her characters in and out of her many series with a skill that is truly unique. If it says Osbourne on the cover, I'm reading it. Tori and Mortimer's journey to love is a delightful tale. I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed the fact that this story was about a more mature couple. I also enjoy how the characters from the other books continue to play a role in the New stories. It makes for a stronger connection to the community created by these different authors. So far really like this series.
This is the fifth book in the Cowboys and Angels series. It's by the Brides of Beckham author and the heroine is the aunt to the demon horde. I like this series because the change in authors spices up the style and information readers are given. Plus, the addition of guardian angels gives me an added dimension to contemplate.
Wow, did I have a hard time liking Mortimer for a good portion of this story! He was pretty much a jerk! Just because his long awaited bride was a pixie sized blonde, he treated her like a thorn in his side…. Thankfully, with Toria’s kindness and some help from a certain angel, he finally woke up.
A very sweet read. Great series and recommend it. Get kindle unlimited and binge read the entire series! Recommend Kirsten's other series too such as river end ranch and married at the altar.
Believe and follow your intuition. Creede,Colorado needs people who dream and work hard and families to make it a home and the Angel's help to set them on their path. Humor and emotions make for interesting story telling.
Toria is hoping for a good marriage, as a way to escape her life, but is Mortimer ready to love again after loosing his first wife? A surprising angel will help them find the right path.
A story of a woman with more energy and initiative than I could imagine. Fighting the idea of seeing a ghost would make me feel crazy. This story is wonderful. I couldn't put it down. Beckham has the best brides.
I loved this story from beginning to end. The character of Victoria is an inspiration. She was given lemons in her life at the beginning, but she kept on making wonderful lemonade. I hope there is a sequel that features John.
I loved how practical and God fearing the Jackson's were! Toria was a blessing to all in Creede and her stepson John was a perfect example of the wooing of God. - Babs
I'm really enjoying this series and this was my favorite book so far. I loved Mortimer and Toria's story. It captivated me from the beginning and left me with a smile.
I really enjoyed reading this sweet, clean & uplifting story that takes place in one my favorite states...Colorado. Loved the storyline & all the little surprises. Great read!!!
It kept me interested from beginning to the end! Evil thoughts from her employer. Not really understanding each others feelings. Then the happy ending! I recommend this book! Read it!
I love visiting Creede! Ms. Osbourne created characters that have such depth, they seem real! If you haven't read this series yet you are really missing out!!!
