This is basically a practical guide to lettering that shows various types of lettering styles and gives opportunities to practice them. It's good if one wants to practice established styles of lettering. This book is not helpful if a reader wants information on how to create one's own lettering styles. I'm not all the way through this book, but I feel I've had enough exposure to rate it.

I’ve bought a lot of lettering books and this is the only one I don’t go back and reference. In fact, this was the first book I bought on my lettering journey and my first disappointment within the genre. More of a copy me child’s book rather than a how to guide.

This is a cute and inexpensive little workbook. It focuses primarily on hand lettering with a few mentions of brush lettering. The alphabets are cute and easy to pick up which is good bc there is very little instruction or directions in this book. The guidelines are a bit small for the brush letter alphabets.

Brief explanation of different lettering styles and lots of practice sheets. This is definitely a beginners guide and would be helpful for anyone who doesn’t have experience in this area, but it isn’t very thorough. It’s about 90% practice sheets and 10% information.

This is a great book for beginners to learn the basics of calligraphy. I love that there is space in the book for practice and that there are many different styles included. Sitting down and unwinding with this book for practice is something I always look forward to.

3/25/2022 ~ I would have preferred more alphabets and fewer practice pages. The first 5 pages were useful, with their descriptions of strokes & terminology.

Considering this art form in terms of four Ts was also useful: terminology, technique, tools & tips.

In the world of digital media and digital communication, hand written words are that much more valuable and the art of it’s expression this much more precious. I loved this little book with markings for practice since at the end of the day - this is what matters: diligence, desire and practice for mastering the art which hopefully will not be lost.

This is a great beginning intro in hand lettering. It’s easy to pick up and start, but gives you plenty of information to get a good beginning. It’s a fun way to pass the time. The book is of good quality and has plenty of practice space.
