Glenn Hawley is care-worn and just plain worn out. Unable to escape his past mistakes, and with the consequences of bad luck and poor choices closing in from every side, everything he cares about is in jeopardy.
It’s going to take more than his neighbors to help the ex-Sheriff save his ranch, his way of life and the family he is willing to risk everything for.
But sometimes a man can get lucky. Sometimes a chance encounter with one person can make all the difference.
In the shadow of Wyoming’s sweeping grasslands, when history and the present collide, it will take more than a united front to protect an uncertain future where the stakes are high and courage is all a man has left.
THUNDER BASIN explores one man’s search for redemption and second chances. It is a character study in a contemporary western mystery-suspense setting, and includes a dollop of MF romance, high action and humor.
Nya Rawlyns cut her teeth on sports-themed romantic comedies and historical romances. She found her true calling writing about the wilderness areas she has visited but calls home—in that place that counts the most, the heart.
She has lived in the country and on a sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay, earned more than 1000 miles in competitive trail and endurance racing, taught Political Science to unwilling freshmen, and found an avocation in materials science.
When she isn’t tending to her garden or the horses, the cats, or three pervert parakeets, she can be found day dreaming and listening to the voices in her head.
This one totally gets 5 stars from me because... 1. It's M/F and I don't do M/F but I liked the first 2 books so much I had to do it and now the heart of the reason that it gets 5 stars... 2. because I really, really freakin' liked this one...like seriously liked it.
Before I go into what I really loved about his story let me just say I liked Glenn he wasn't perfect, hell not even close but what he was was very believable and while I was disappointed in why his marriage ended Glenn's ex-wife got me over that real fast because for me, seriously she's another candidate for 'whack-a-mole' or slap-bitch whichever you prefer. I don't care why your marriage ended you don't get to use your kids as cannon fodder to get even with your ex for their perceived wrongs...no simply no. There are no exceptions for this in my mind so as soon as she did this I was so over her. I care not what Glenn did her actions were inexcusable.
Now the part of this story that I loved Glenn's love interest she was freakin' awesome!!!! This lady was strong and kick-ass, she was not waiting for a knight in shining armor to come along and save her because half the time she was doing the saving. She's strong and fiercely independent, not afraid to speak her mind...yep, I liked her. She's totally someone I could be friends with.
I can't say that it's been a long time since I've read a book with such a strong female figure as an MC because actually it's only been a couple of days...Tequila Sunrise, anyone? But still there are never enough positive female role models to be had the world can always use more.
Ok, I'm off to see what my next audio selection has in store for me so happy listening or reading because this ones available in eBook or on audio for you to enjoy if you're interested.
This book was at first hard to get into. Yet once I got into it I couldn't put it down. For me I grew up on a ranch and have a hard time reading stories were they ranch. This story was spot on with the language, terms of ranch/reining horse and cowboy life.
Glenn left the badge behind to help his brother on their family ranch. Times have hit them hard and things need to change. Going to enjoy a weekend to himself after dropping off his brother Glenn decides to get a hotel and live a little. He just didn't know that he would be meeting Ava Manning.
Ava is enjoying some time off before she heads back to Denver for work. In walks in "cowboy" offering her a coffee and she offers at seat at her table. They have an instant pull towards each and can easily sit and talk for hours. I loved how they interacted and could feel Glenn's passion for his time with Ava.
As Glenn heads back to his ranch after an amazing time with Ava, things start to change. Now he is in a fight from his past and future. I love how the suspense of the story went and how everything unfolded.
This is my first read from Nya and I will be adding more of her writings to my list.
It's not often that you find a brand new-to-you author and you truly connect with their writing style, but when it does happen, it's epic. That's exactly the situation here with me and Thunder Basin by Nya Rawlyns. For some reason, the book called to me and boy, I'm glad it did!
The way the author wrote, not just the dialogue but the general story, felt so real!! It was truly authentic to the "western lifestyle" and I loved that! Down to the boots comment which had me laughing out loud! That's the type of comment you'd hear a real, legit cowboy say! You can tell Nya Rawlyns knows her ranch/livestock lifestyle!!
I also really liked Ava's character! LOVED how she and Glenn met, and her sassy attitude which was exactly what Glenn needed.
If you love Western Romantic Suspense novels, you really must give this one a try! I read it in one sitting! Started it last night and stayed up late finishing it. :) LOVED it! A must-read!
As a native Texan familiar with country life and the rodeo, I appreciate the authenticity Nya Rawlyns displays in Thunder Basin. The dialogue and terminology ring true. I love the fully fleshed out and believable characters, especially the protagonist, Glenn, and his love interest, Ava. The arc of their relationship is realistic and intriguing. The sex scenes are well-written, crafted with heat and humor. The vivid descriptions of various meals made my mouth water. And I love the overall care the author put into the setting, pacing and characters. It's evident that Rawlyns loved writing this book. I loved reading it. I highly recommend this quick, juicy read.

**I received a free copy for my honest review** Overall -- If you are looking for a story with suspense, romance and a western flair, click on this. The author does a great job pulling you in to the story and really getting you hooked with the characters. You begin to ache for Glenn who fits the saying "if it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all", both financially and emotionally. Ava works well with him in the story. The plot moves along with some great heat between the two and a wonderful suspense angle that works well too. You do get a lot of information and background on Glenn, sometimes too much and not a deeper dive with Ava, however that does not detract from the overall story arc. Just the right balance. Enjoy
This is first time in reading this author. The characters are good especially when you come onto scenes between the brothers. Glen sure has his plate full and some of it is spilling. He also has a daughter whom you can see he does care for and wants to be there for her. Then there is also Ava whom is front and center in this also and when their paths cross they will generate some heat enough to brand a cattle. The style though was a bit tough where sometimes to me it was all over the place for my taste. They will have to handle drama also that you get into then puff where did it go but you catch up with it later. Has a wrap up you do get into that does leave you smiling.
This is not your run-of-the-mill, fluff, contemporary western romantic suspense novel. The characters are more human and the story more real. The ranch life scenes feel natural to anyone who has ever owned stock and the story has segments that could have been plucked from both a farm journal and local newspaper. Good job. I was tired of authors who haven't a clue writing about rural and ranch living. I hope there will be another in this series...but maybe, there can't be. I enjoyed the book and its ending.
I read it cover the entire book cover in a few days. Unusual for me. Great character development. Glenn Hawley was good boy/bad boy just enough for me to like him and tormented enough for me to understand him. Ava was good girl/ bad girl enough for me to wish I were her! One of those could be a lose/lose situation or a win/win situation stories. Kept me wanting to know where this plot was going. I was twisted, pulled and on the edge of my seat. Humor was nearly tucked in. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it. Thunder Basin is a heartbreaking love story. There is so much going on with this family. The sex scene are very explicit which I wasn't expecting. This book is narrated by Nick J. Russo. Nick does a great job telling this story. He has the perfect speed and tone. I enjoyed this author and narrator.
