True Mates

Holly Jolly Lycan Christmas

Rate this book
Dante Muccino’s wolf is restless. After watching all his friends and family pair up with their True Mates, the animal inside him wants what they have. Children. Family. And a woman to call his own. When he runs into rival Holly Taylor, his wolf is intrigued, but the frosty chef won’t give him the time of day.

After a disastrous blow to her career, Holly has one last chance to prove her skills as a chef de cuisine and earn her stars. Her life is complicated enough, and she doesn’t need more distractions, especially not in the form of sexy celebrity chef Dante Muccino. But there’s something about the easygoing chef that’s melting the icy walls she spent years to build.

Holly Jolly Lycan Christmas is a paranormal romance novel that's a standalone novel with a HEA, hot and sexy scenes, Lycan action and no cheating. It takes place in the True Mates Universe but works as a standalone novel.

This was a great story. I really liked Dante and Holly and completely enjoyed their story. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked it enough that I'm sure I'll try more of her work in the future.

Holly is a chef that's been trained in French cuisine via a scholarship to a French cooking school. Holly lost most of her family, most recently her brother and his wife. Holly's brother left behind a daughter, Hannah, that Holly has taken in to raise. Unfortunately, Hannah was traumatized by the death of her parents and won't talk...at all.

Dante is wolf shifter as well as a chef at one of his family's restaurants. Dante has gained a fair amount of fame in recent times and has enjoyed some of the glamor of it but that only goes so far. Dante has women throwing themselves at him but he's been getting restless, wanting to find his true-mate.

Holly and Dante's first meeting doesn't go well. Holly is hired as the head chef for a French restaurant that's opening across the street from Dante's restaurant. Dante tries to be welcoming but some issues come up that cause Holly to think badly of Dante (for untrue reasons) and he has a lot of problems trying to convince her that he's a good guy and not the bad guy she thinks he is. Thankfully, Holly ends up in a bind and Dante offers her a helping hand...which brings him into Hannah's orbit and Hannah loves Dante from the first. Holly doesn't understand why her traumatized niece would find Dante comforting but the time they spend together because of it convinces Holly that maybe Dante is a good guy after all.

Of course, even with knowing that Dante isn't a bad guy, Holly pushes him away because of...well, life. Dante knows he can't force his way into Holly's life but he also can't keep his mind off of Holly and wants to be with her. Thankfully, things happen (bad things, unfortunately) that give Dante an opening to spend time with Holly and Hannah (for their protection) and grow his relationship with them. Holly does still have a few bouts of angst but the relationship drama isn't too bad. There are some other issues that bring danger with them but those also are dealt with. In the end, Dante and Holly (and Hannah) are a family and headed into a lovely HEA (with an epilogue and an extended epilogue to prove the HEA as well as the likelihood that this is the conclusion of the series).

I really enjoyed this story a lot! Holly was a really good heroine...maybe a bit too standoffish at first but she was known as being the "ice queen" and she warmed up in the end. Dante was great and I loved him...no wonder Hannah latched on to him right off the bat. Hannah was an interesting character too and I liked her and the other secondary characters. Overall, this was a great story with characters I liked/loved that sucked me in from pretty much the beginning so I'd recommend it. :)

When he first meets Holly Taylor, werewolf chef Dante Muccino thinks she's snooty and elitist, and she thinks he's rude and dishonest. But despite her training in French culinary school, Holly just wants to make good food and run her restaurant (across the street from Dante's). But when Holly's in danger, Dante's wolf can't help but come out to protect her, leading to a lot of complications.

This is a cute Christmas romance. It's got love, suspense, and plenty of family moments (with Holly's niece and Dante's extended family). It's more a romance than a romantic suspense, but it doesn't feel out of balance. It's the perfect paranormal romance for the holidays.

This was maybe a 2.5 star read for me, it wasn't horrible but it was easily predictable and it was the cliche fated mates story, or as they are called in this book "True Mates". Man meets woman, woman can't stand man (at first) and then it all changes and they fall in-love. I hope that's not a spoiler, you kinda know that's going to happen right? And you get your HEA with even a glimpse in the far future.

3.5 stars. Was in the mood for a good Christmas read but this was not really Christmassy enough.
Have not read any of this series or anything by this author that I remember. This is obviously a pull together for this series as there are lots of people in this book and especially in the epilogue.
Enjoyed the story but wasn't really enamoured of the two main H's or the cooking side of it.
Found Holly tough to like and don't like hero's who are man whores.
Apart from this liked the writing style and may look into reading this series.
Did like Hannah and the other characters.
Needed to be proof read, lots of silly errors allowed to slip through.
Read in KU which is good for trying out new authors.

2020. Bought the book. Upgraded to 4 stars.
Reread and having now read the rest of the books and the follow on Next Generation series, I enjoyed this more.
I just really wish the errors had been dealt with.

I so love this story. It’s part of the wonderful Fated Mates series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. But one you read this one you will be hooked to read all the others. I don’t think two people could start off on the wrong foot any worse than these two. She acts like a cold b*tch and he acts like an a$$. But it may all be cause they felt an instant connection and want to ignore it. But some bad guys will change everything and actually bring the two together. I love how much love Dante has for his family and friends. He would do anything for them and for anyone really. Holly may seem cold but she has some major worries in her life. Add in the whole factor that Dante is a wolf shifter and the story just gets better. Some action and a few hot scenes make it a perfect paranormal romance.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

SUMMARY
December 1
Holly looks around her kitchen at the new restaurant, Petite Louve. She earned the nickname The Ice Queen in her Paris school. Sharice, classmate, offers to finance and run a restaurant if Holly will cook. A man comes into the kitchen. He has heterochromia. She assumes he works for the produce supplier, directs him to put away potatoes. He does. The grocer asks where his potatoes are. Who's the guy in my pantry?? Sharice introduces her to famous Chef Dante Muccino. Are you spying? No, I brought cannolis to welcome you to the neighborhood.

Dante doesn't know what to make of Holly. His wolf had even perked up, which he never does. She looks like the type who'd never pay attention to a nobody from Jersey. He can't stop thinking about her. Enzo, his human half-brother, tells him rich patrons want to see him. “So, Chef, I I see the restaurant across the street’s re-opening. I heard it’s gonna be some fancy shmancy French place. Is that true?” “French cooking? Please. Talk about uptight, overpriced, and bland.” “So you think they won’t last the year?” “Won’t last the month.”

Holly is overseeing their soft opening, can't stop thinking about Dante. Her crew shows her a video of that conversation. She tells them to get back to work, goes to the closet, screams.

Enzo shows Dante the video posted by a blogger. Dante's wolf is mad at Dante. He needs to apologize. The next day, half the ingredients for his lunch service were not provided. Then he and Enzo see a van at Holly's restaurant. Enzo, You don't snipe other people's suppliers. Dante tells him to leave it be.

The next day, nobody comes to Holly's restaurant for over an hour. They find a note taped to their door, Closed by the Health Dept. Holly stomps over to Dante's restaurant, accuses him. He walks her to the pantry for privacy. They talk about this competition, are about to kiss when Enzo yells, asking if the crazy lady came over about the sign he put up.

Holly goes in Monday. She sees an old woman at Dante's restaurant. Gianna is waiting for her nephew, and her phone is dead. Holly invites her over to charge it and for tea.

Dante slept in because it was his day off. He sees lights on at Holly's restaurant, knows they only do dinner. He goes over, Nonna plays matchmaker by inviting Dante to drink with them. Yes, she is French taught. His is all from his grandmother and great-aunt, a family restaurant. Petite Louve is Old French for little wolf. Dante chokes on his tea. “Oh, that was mostly Sharice’s idea. I really wanted another name, but she came up with it and the wolf just kind of grew on me.” Gianna, “It’s nice to know that wolves grow on you. They can be such … fickle creatures.” “And how is business?” Holly’s face falters. “It’s fine. I mean, it’s only been a week, so time will tell.” Gianna goes to the restroom. Dante's apology makes things worse. Then a woman comes in, says Hannah's school called, she needs to be picked up. Holly leaves. Is Holly married? He had checked for a ring, but then again, chefs don’t wear jewelry while working. His chest tightens. His wolf growls. Gianna, “She doesn’t look old enough to have a child in school. I’m surprised.” He offers to take Gianna to his sister's. They find Holly outside looking for a cab. Gianna, “Don’t you have anyone to take you there? Your husband?” “Husband? Uh, no. I’m not married. Hannah is ac—” “I’ll take you.” He's so relieved.

Holly is worried. Hannah has been moody and non-vocal. Dante, “Look, just let me help, okay? I’ll bring you guys home or wherever you want afterwards. Please, think of this as my apology. A better one than this morning’s.” Hannah's been in a fight, won't tell her side of the story, gets expelled. While Hannah's in the restroom, Holly tells Dante that Hannah is her niece, her parents were killed, so Holly went to Seattle for the funerals and to take custody, then moved here a month later. Mom died when Holly was born, Dad died when she was 14; Sean had just gotten out of the police academy, took guardianship of her until she turned 18 and went to Paris. Holly introduces Dante to Hannah.

EVALUATION
Character development is good for both main people. The shifter aspect of Dante's life, including true mates, isn't treated much more heavily than other aspects of his character. Holly changes from Ice Queen to flustered pretty quick; maybe she's only cold in the kitchen. I really like Noah.

The suspense seemed obvious to me where to investigate. Still exciting, though.

The premise of the enemies to lovers was weak sauce. She thought he was the vegetable supplier, and when she found out he was a chef she freaks out and assumes he’s spying and is extremely rude. He jokes with a vip customer that her restaurant will fail in a month, which is so insanely completely out of character for him from the whole rest of the book.

Time was really hard to keep track of here. We get told in the beginning of one of the early chapters that it’s December 1, but then time jumps randomly and with no indication for the rest of December.

There are several instances where the writer mixes up the child and the FMC’s names. I’m assuming in early versions the child was the one named Holly.

The mystery plot line of who is trying to kill them is severely underdeveloped and makes little sense. You know it’s going to be the people who killed the brother and his wife, because it’s literally the only bad guys mentioned. But it’s developed poorly and then the climax is ridiculous.

The FMC spends the whole time they are seeing each other saying in her internal monologue that they aren’t really dating and that she fully expects this to just be a fling and he will move on. But then when she finds out about True Mates, she assumes it’s not her and flips out on the MMC because he “lied” to her and was just using her until he met his mate. If he was human, and they were casual like she was saying the whole time, then the expectation always was that they would break up and be with other people one day.

But the thing that got me the most riled up was the whole “True Mates always get pregnant the first time they have sex without a physical barrier.” That’s not my thing, but whatever, I can deal. What I can’t deal with is her jumping up from bed the second they finish having unprotected sex the first time and immediately taking 3 pregnancy tests and then all coming back positive. Like it’s the damn Sims. And at one month she says she been ravenous (it seems like the whole time). The epilogue and extended epilogue read like fanfic/fan service with no real finesse.

It was ok enough in the first half. I liked the couple enough and their romance, and I could look past the clunky writing and weird pacing. But it got more annoying towards the end, and the poorly written aspects became more plentiful. It’s a good thing Hannah didn’t talk most of the book, because her dialogue was so bad.

Dante comes from a large Italian family and is a successful chef. His wolf is restless though after seeing most of his family find their true mates. Then he meets Holly, a chef opening a ne french restaurant across the street. She has his wolf even more restless but she wants no part of him.

Holly has enough on her plate. A new restaurant opening and the sole care of her 7 year old niece who hasn't spoken since her parents were killed. She doesn't need the "too hot for his own good" celebrity chef from across the street showing her any attention!

Bad things start to happen to Holly; a fire at her restaurant, a break-in at her apartment. Even though she and Dante have somewhat made peace, he stays at her apartment to make sure she is safe after the fire and after the break in, he takes her and her niece to his apartment.

Who is after Holly and her niece? Will Holly give in to the chemistry between she and Dante? Can Dante keep them safe?

I liked this story, it was sweet with some heat! Holly figures Dante is some playboy chef and is determined to not be another notch on his bedpost. She has enough to deal with between a new restaurant and her non-verbal niece. Dante is over being a celebrity chef. He is all about his restaurant and his close family, he just needs to convince Holly of that!

This reminds me of a Hallmark Xmas movie but with a little more heat and a werewolf of course. I did enjoy it. I loved the closeness of Dante's family and them welcoming Holly into their fold.

Loved

Sorry to see this series end, but looking forward to reading the next generation of True Mates. This is Dante Muccino, a lycan, and Holly Taylor's story, a human. Both are competitive Chefs who take pride in their work.

Holly had to give up her dream career working in a restaurant owned by a renowned chef in order to take guardianship of her 7 year ago niece, Hannah. Holly's broth, a cop, was killed along with his wife. They made Hannah run. Since that night, Hannah hasn't said a word and no one knows why; doctors, specialists, etc.

Dante is now a famous chef after his sister opened a 2nd restaurant in NY. But meeting women who just want to be with him because he's famous isn't fun anymore. When he goes next door with pastries for his new restaurant neighbor, he gets the shock of his life.

His wolf immediately falls for Holly, but she is nothing but cold and rude to him. That is until something happens to Holly in her restaurant and Dante's wolf breaks through a burning restaurant to save both Holly and Hannah. That's when she meets his wolf and needs to promise to protect the clan.

There on the attacks escalate and both girls move in with Dante for safety. He knows that Holly's his true mate, but doesn't know how she will take the news after just getting over knowing that he's a Lycan.

Will it be be too late to tell her before trouble shows up again?

Great Christmas Shifter Read

Dive in to this wonderful holiday shifter read. It will have you feeling the Christmas spirit and rooting for Dante and Holly. I feel like giving away too much will spoil the surprise in the story.
Dante and Holly have a unique journey that will require the whole family to rally and give them the HEA they need.
Dante is the last lycan of his group to be single. He works hard as a Chef and enjoys all that encompasses, including working next to his employees. When a new restaurant opens across the street, his wolf notices. Then Dante notices Holly. He will have the battle he never expected come barreling through the door. Dante will have to work hard to make Christmas bright for Holly.
Holly, the Ice Queen, doesn't want her cold heart melted. She has so much to do and be, finding a man and falling in love, isn't on the agenda. When fear and trouble come into her life, she has to take a leap of faith into the arms of the man she avoids.
Overall this is a fantastic Christmas story and brings a conclusion to the True Mates. All that's left is an epilogue that will make you want the next generation immediately.

A Lycan, a very protective aunt, and a terrified silent young girl

Holly has moved to New York with her traumatized niece. Holly is a Paris-trained chef who is head chef in her friend's new French restaurant. Across the street is Dante's family's family restaurant (Italian). Hannah is seven. Her parents were killed. Her father was a police officer in Seattle. Her mother sacrificed her life so her daughter could get away. Not knowing why Hannah did not speak, Holly did everything she could to help and care for Hannah. Things got off to a rocky start between Holly and Dante, but when he realized someone was trying to hurt Holly and Hannah, Dante did his best to protect them. Tied into other books in the series, their world is inhabited by many other family characters. The story is lively and very interesting, with a surprise revelation as to Hannah's silence--and a very happy ending.

Excellent

Holly is a chef in her friend’s French restaurant. She is raising her young niece after her brother and sister in law were killed. Hannah hasn’t spoken since then and gets kicked out of school for fighting.
Dante owns an Italian restaurant and is lycan. He’s known as the bad boy chef and has had his fair share of models and actresses. But one look at Holly and his wolf perks up. He thinks she’s his true mate but the only way to really know is if she gets pregnant because only true mates can have kids.
Holly is known as the Ice Queen and wants nothing to do with Dante. When someone tries to burn the restaurant with Holly and Hannah in it, Dante saves them. Someone is after Hannah but Dante will protect them both with his life.
Awesome story. Hot scenes. Wolves. Loved Dante, Holly took some getting used too and Hannah was a cutie pie.

Holly Jolly Lycan Christmas

Loved it. It's serious and funny too. Holly is a chef, so is Dante. She excells in French cuisine, he in Italian. Dante has a busy established family Italian restaurant. Holly's friend buys premises across the street from Dante and asks Holly to run the kitchen for her. They are both attracted and rivals. Someone is out to harm Holly and her niece, Dante's wolf wants to protect them. This story starts in the run up to Christmas, it has a really good storyline. If you like a good shifter book this author writes them. I am starting the True Mates series next, think should of started with them first. Never mind, won't stop me enjoying them. Look forward to the books she has planned in the future.............

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Yet another hit from Alicia Montgomery! I have been waiting for what seems like forever (only a year really) to read Dantes story and I wasn't left disappointed, it's part of her true mates series (which is my absolute favourite paranormal romance collection to date!) and I can't recommend the books highly enough, this continues in a similar theme although a little more light hearted as it's a Christmas episode and it's set a few years after Connors story so you get to see how all the kids and your favourite characters have got on. it's quick witted and a joy to read and very difficult to put down! Give the series ago you won't be disappointed!!

Two Chefs Fall in Love

I’ve been waiting for Dante to get his true mate since he was first introduced. He’s always been such a sweet guy. Getting to know him a bit better through his love story with Holly was fun. It really showed his true personality and that he wasn’t just a celebrity playboy. Holly was perfect for him and I loved how she cared for her niece. I absolutely loved the way Hannah responded to Dante. He made her feel safe.

I have a love/hate relationship with epilogues, so I'm torn on the one included in this book. On one hand, I wish the authors would let the endings stand. On the other hand, it’s sometimes nice to see the characters’ futures.

Writing quality: Good
Violence: Yes
Sexual content: Yes
Narration: Third person
Pace: Fast

Disclosure: I received a free advance copy of the book which I also pre-ordered

3.5 stars. I probably shouldn't have started with book 7. I guess it didnt matter too much but I had no idea who any of the side characters were or how the true mates worked until it was explained to Holly. Holly was an ice queen in her kitchen but outside of work she just seemed lonely and sad which given her story it's understandable. I hate manwhores and Dante seemed like one but realized it as he had said he regrets it and now just wants to settle down so that made it better. He wasnt an alpha Male that I normally like but he was sweet and that was adorable. Bit of suspense and some steamy scenes. Overall a good story. Great epilogue!

This is such a touching story! Holly is a French Chef who took in her niece after they were murdered. Dealing with the fall out from the death of her parents Hannah would not talk and acted out in school causing a lot of grief for Holly. Holly has a new job in New York across from a well know restaurant. Holly and Dante first meeting were on deceptive terms but once the air was cleared these two were a likely couple especially to Dante's wolf, she called to it and knew that she was their true mate. This Christmas story is filled with so much action and drama that it will have you falling for this Lycan clan hands down!

Celebrity master chef Dante Muccino and coming chef Holly Taylor from the new restaurant across the street didn’t get off on the right foot though mutual attraction was they clear. But two things happened to change how they treated each other. First Dante took Holly to pick up her niece who hadn’t spoken since her parents were murdered during an emergency and a snowstorm. Secondly, Dante rescued Holly when she and her niece were trapped in a burning building.

Aargh! This reader was enjoying the outing from a new to me author (even with logical errors) until the ending which was bad on multiple levels to my taste including its effect on the rating.

I’m so excited to share my thoughts about this new book and so fitting for the holidays. Another True Mate smash hit by Ms. Montgomery. This book is about the handsome & charming chef Lycan Dante and the beautiful ice queen Holly (human)who is another chef in the same area where Dante’s restaurant’s located. The couple have their share of ups and downs then throw in a munchkin name Hannah & with the Russian mob then things got interesting. Just love the parts where some of the characters from the previous books were in the mix. I received this book (ARC) in exchange for my honest review!

Dante is an Italian chef from a large family living in New York. Holly is a French chef who went to school in Paris and opens a restaurant across the street from Dante's family restaurant. Hannah is Holly's neice who hasn't talked since her parents death and Holly took her to live with her. Dante got off on the wrong foot with Holly when he went to welcome her to the neighborhood. Things were strained between them even though there was a strong attraction between them. When someone tried to kill Holly and Hannah, Dante stepped in and kept them safe.

Another paranormal holiday read that needs proofreading! The story was good and the characters were interesting. It's always good reading about a large, established group. It seems to allow the author to develop characters and stories beyond just one story. Dante and Holly were a pretty good pair. I loved it when Dante is in wolf form and trying to save Holly and Hannah from the fire..Holly is scared of the wolf and throws the stapler at him! 🤣🤣 I thought the extended ending was a bit strange. It felt a bit like a roll call. Recommended.

Cooking up the perfect Christmas

First impressions are the lasting impression, but a kitchen rivalry won’t keep fate from creating her perfect recipe with these two. I love how the characters are both feisty in the kitchen and out, but underneath they have a core of gold. There are so many layers to this story and with each reveal I fell more in love with the characters. The author kept the intensity high throughout the book culminating in a HEA that set the tone for the holidays. This book was a fantastic read and I am looking forward to more by the author.

I found this book for free on Amazon via Freebooksy.
The little wars between the two chefs reminded me of a movie I saw years ago but with French/Indian food instead of French/Italian. I really like it when there's more than one romance/suspense in one story. Romance, mixed with mystery and suspense, a bit predictable with a few twists here and there. I've seen it in the other books (3 series 11 books), editing needs a pass but this one needs a serious one ("coq au vain" was the worse - "vain" being the homonym of "vin" - but also wrong name, missing words, etc.).

I loved this story! It was cute and I was so happy to finally get to read Dante's story. We get a bit of a bonus and get some of Enzo's too. I loved the characters and how Dante handled handled the situation with Holly and Hannah. They were adorable. This story is just a feel good read! I loved getting the bits of pieces of the other people as they came in and out and the epilogue was awesome!!!!! I can't wait for the next generation!

Outstanding

For somebody who used to hate reading I must say that Alicia Montgomery made me into a reader with her True Mate Series plus!! I could not stop reading and was so intrigued with all the plots, stories, and twists. She had me so involved that my imagination was actually picturing what I was reading from front to back, page by page, and series by series. Thank you Alicia!!
