Greed is the root cause of all unhappiness. The rest that follows it such as Wealth, Power are just secondary. But as the saying goes, what goes around, comes around. Karma always prevails and the guilty are always punished.
'Murderous greed' is a story involving two gruesome murders in the quaint village of Avadi, in Tamilnadu. Avadi village, which is known to have one of the lowest crime rates in the state, witnessed two shocking murders in a single day. Kanaga, a middle aged lady who was on her way to attend a wedding, injured her head against a lamp post when she was protecting her necklace from the chain snatcher. She succumbed to the injuries on her head.
At the same time, CEO of Fast Construction Corporation was murdered in his car, when he was returning home in the wee hours of the morning. Top cop Satyajit is summoned for duty. During the course of the investigation, he finds that the common link between two murder cases, is the bike. The case turns ugly, when The Commissioner of Police, asks him to speed up the investigations, he too comes under the radar of suspicion. Meanwhile, the participation of the police commissioner, in the secret society 'The Gun Club' also comes into the picture.
The way the author has woven the two murders and established a logical and feasible connection is commendable. There was not a single moment, when the plot drifted apart from the central theme i.e Greed. The description of the picturesque village of Avadi is beautifully articulated in words.I loved the realistic characterisation of the investigating officer, Satyajit. He didn't resemble any of the famous detectives in literature, and has managed to carve a separate niche for himself. I look forward to witness him in action, in the next book.
The fast pace of the book, will influence the surge of adrenaline to a great extent. I couldn't predict the ending, no matter how much I tried. The author has saved the best for the last.
The plot slightly slumped in the middle, as there were only discussions amongst the police officers and less of the investigation sequences. The suspense element was lost in between the lines. The language was too simple, it could have been more refined.
