Wow! This novel had so many ups and downs, twists and turns. The family dynamics will blow the mind. Love triangles, deaths and mysteries. Everything you can think of is in this one. Cannot wait to start the next one in the series.
Between Brothers by Brenda Barrett, a new author to this reader is a great segway for the books in this series. It is a novella providing the background on the Wiley Brothers and how their transition into one big family as the result of their parents consequences. Joseph Wiley, the matriarch of the Wiley brothers lived a double life. On one hand, he had a wife, Jennifer and 3 sons living a well-to-do life, however was unhappy because he was pressured at the time to wed a woman he did not love. On the other hand, he had Hannah his first love who gave him 3 sons also but they lived a modest life, far from the other.
Do to their circumstances and somewhat selfish wants as adults, the result led to the wife ending the lives of Joseph, Hannah, and unborn child, and aunt. This catapulted the brothers to come together as a family, learn to trust and depend on one another in order to make it through their hurts, hardships, pain and coming to adulthood sooner than they had wished.
A truly wonderful, well-written prequel to the Wiley Brothers series. Totally enjoyed and could not put the book down. A recommended read.
This book, though sad, is an endearing story of six brothers who learn to love and bond with each other through unusual circumstances. Their parents lived a triangular life and it seems the only good that came from it is the lesson it's teaching these boys. I felt this story was very unique in the way it was told. It is both tragic and endearing and I can't wait to read how these brothers grow and what they become. I highly recommend this book.
The Wiley brothers was an unusual family. Three of the brothers belonged to Hannah and Joseph and the other three belonged to Joseph and Jennifer. Joseph was in love with Hannah and had 3 sons with her. Joseph allowed Jennifer’s father to buy him. Joseph married Jennifer and they had 3 sons also. Jennifer did not allow her sons to hang out with their father. Jennifer did not want her sons to know their brother’s. Awesome book, on to the next one.
This book took me through an emotional wringer, I couldn't put it down. I even read it while spinning at the gym! The story line is quite gripping and the twists and turns... I couldn't understand though why saint was mentioned only sporadically. It made me quite curious about him, and of all the brothers, I want to know what happened to him the most. I would recommend it to anyone, whatever your tastes may be, as I would a Brenda Barrett books.
It was suggested by the author at the beginning of "Baby for a Pryce" to read this book for background and foundation. First time reading this author's work. I found this book very good and well written. The brothers learned positive and negative from parents. This book informs me that all families have problems. I have purchased the "Wiley Brothers" series.
I read “For Pete’s Sake “ first because it was tagged as the first book in the Wiley Brothers series. Clearly “Between Brothers “ should have been tagged as book #1 The book was compelling as it went into great detail to explain the sometimes tormented child hood of the six brothers and and their parents. I found the story very interesting Now I look forward to reading “Crossing Jordan” can’t wait to see what’s going on with Jordan and Shawn
I am an avid fan of Ms. Barrett and am always excited to learn that she has a new series on the way. While this book spans over a few years, she captured and held my attention throughout. I cannot wait to read each of the brother's individual stories. This book is written well with lots of details and the twists and turns will have you reading with your mouth open!
This book had so many twist and turn can't wait for the remaining books in the series. I read this book in four hours without a break. Brenda is doing it again.
Like every other book written by Brenda , this book is amazing . It made cry , laugh and clutch chest in fear. The message is clear Darkness & Gloom before dawn.
I am going to enjoy this series these boys are special. They have been through hell and back with the death of the parents. Fred selling off their livily hood because of his gambling habit.
I really was intrigued with the brothers experiences with their mom's & dad. I plan to read the upcoming 📚 in this series. Now each brother will have his own book and Preston's story is next. It is titled "For Pete's Sake (Book 1)".
This was a very good read. It started off slow but it eventually picked up. The Wiley family has been through so much to be so young. They have had to deal with death, jealousy, greed, hatred, theft etc. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
This book made me laugh cry and definitely want more. I cannot wait to see more from this series to see how these brothers grow up and mature and manage and live their lives.
First book I read of young people and it wasn't a love story. It took a few hours to read and it was breathtaking. I have probably read hundreds of books and this one was definitely special and unique. She is definitely a master at writing!!!
I loved the beginning story of the Wiley Brothers. I can't wait to start reading the next book. From the excerpt it's going to be fantastic reading. I recommend this series to everyone.
This book started off slowly , but when it took off , it really took off. This is a story of unconditional love, forged from tragedy and pain and the willpower to fight on in the face of abject circumstances. I am certainly looking forward to reading the next in the series. Well done!
This book is absolutely outstanding. In spite of their upbringing The Wiley Brothers commitment to stay together after tragically losing their parents; shows their strength and bonds as brothers.
Jennifer was so selfish, she took someone else’s husband, and it back fired on her, but happy the boys stuck together and came out successful they had some ups and down but they did it 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾
Really enjoyed this book. It had been in my library for a while and I finally got a chance to read it. Brenda Barrett did an awesome job with this storyline. I was heartbroken when the boys were left without parents. I can’t wait to read more about these brothers.
I read the Wiley Brothers series first. Should have started with this book for the back stories on the brothers parents. The story made me sad yet happy ☺ that these brothers came together in love to support each other no matter what!
