Some relations are like an old sweater; often too worn out to be revived, but too precious to be replaced.
This book is a collection of simple, heartfelt and inspiring poetry, conversations and musings that celebrate ordinary life with all its imperfections, sorrows and little joys. It explores the themes of love, life, grief, depression, self-actualization and personal growth through the lens of an introvert who uses writing as a preferred way of communicating with mankind. The vignettes are divided into sections of loving, losing, hurting, surviving, conquering, on living today and on writing. Coffee, the ultimate companion, represents the breaks we take from experiencing life to write about it.

Coffee and Ordinary Life is a collection of just that, ordinary life. The author shares little pieces of her life, poems about everyone's life, and even tiny tales of the earths life.
One of my favourite things about poetry is that it's often written about the same few topics, but every single poem comes from a different perspective of the topic and can be interpreted hundreds of thousands of ways. With this book I felt like I could easily understand what the author was trying to get across in majority of the pieces, and maybe we just think alike but, I really loved being able to feel that way.
I of course also love this cover and want a paperback of it ASAP!
Coffee and Ordinary Life by Mitali Meelan is a small collection of poetry by the author. It is a very short read and well-suited to read before bed or when you just want to relax.
In the foreword, which I really liked, the author gives an insight on about this books, what coffee represents for her and the full meaning of the name of the book. I liked her take on coffee as a companion and a metaphor.
There are very short poems. All of them are about different emotions. Some of them are quite meaningful and some of them felt like I already know and were too short. There were some that were very relatable. Overall, this book is an enjoyable read.
If you’re a fan of Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey or just want to read a nice book, I recommend this.
On a cold and breezy afternoon when I enveloped myself cozily in a soft blanket, Mitali Meelan's poetry book Coffee And Ordinary Life brought me the warmth of words that was much needed. The essence of the poetries is as refreshing as a cup of hot coffee. It retains the bittersweet flavour and lives up to it's name.
I have bookmarked so many poems in the book that I have lost the count. Every poem is revitalizing. You haven't read anything like this ever before. These poems stay with you.
The writing style is witty, humourous, sentimental, inspiring and at times or simultaneously, deep and philosophical.
What I loved about the book is that the poet adeptly personifies the feelings; you have an anxiety speak, depression and even voice finds it's voice through Meelan's words. The poems bring the picture alive for the readers and that's a virtue worth laudable.
All in all you read about love, love lost, about conquering and break-up. It is written in a tumbler poems -esque manner.
Poems that I loved are plenty but Nowhere To Hide, A Simple How Are You, On Your Feet, Scraps, Sharks, Load Shedding are those that will stay with me.
Ratings 4 stars. On the scale of readability it sure is 10 on 10!
“Coffee and ordinary life” - A good, catchy title which in itself is suffice for you to look for the book and download it. A very good collection of poetry, conversations & musings by Mitali that once you read, can be related to your own life. It’s my first attempt to read such a genre and I must say I ain’t disappointed at all. I’m very much damn sure that you won’t be too..
Overall, a very good try by Mitali and is one of the must read books I might say.
Once again, a very good and inspiring try Mitali!!
I am a avid reader and love reading and reviewing books; Books that talk about stories that may be history, autobiography, mythology or plain fiction. I love losing myself in those worlds.
Poems , now they are something we relate to with childhood. At least I do. I haven't read many English poems. I read lot of Marathi/ Hindi and like them. This was the first collection I have read by any Indian author and I must say I am proud I picked up this.
Coffee and stories go hand in hand and yes coffee and poems too go hand in hand now. The author has penned such beautiful, easy to relate to poems that I have started enjoying reading poems too. Very simply put, beautifully crafted emotions and very strong effect. Like a good coffee, that is strong, bitter yet sweet.
The best part of this was I started to enjoy this one so much that I was sad when it finished. Hats off Mitali for being able to write such wonderful gems in such simple words. You do have a flair for this.Waiting to read some more from you now.
Titled Coffee and Ordinary Life because the author feels coffee is the perfect companion to everything, this book has poems inspired from daily life. The book is divided into seven sections : On Writing, On Loving, On Losing, On Hurting, On Surviving, On Conquering and On Living Today. Each section has a few poems and each poem is beautiful in its own right. The poems are varied be it in subject or the length, have a pull that draws you to read them again. Yes, some poems are just brilliantly beautiful. There are few poems in which a lot of spoken in just a few words. Dealing with emotions of different kinds, you will find that you can relate to the poems. Some times there is a message that is hard to miss and that requires to think about it a little more.
