A fully illustrated version of timeless children's classic, The Sugar-Plum Tree, a work by Eugene Field. A perfect bedtime tale for the young (and not so young).
i am aware this is a retelling and not the original text - i just like using goodreads for my own little writings.
man, this poem as a kid made me want candy sooo much. i love when writers use food words for non food things to be cute - chocolate cat and gingerbread dog is just great, as is lollipop sea. beautiful images implanted into the child's imagination. i'm glad i got to read poems like this. makes me sad that kids don't... they might get to see the lollipop seas ans sugarplum trees as pixels on a screen, but the vividness of a child's imagination is so much brighter.
i honestly still want to taste a sugarplum so bad lol. maybe just sprinkling white sugar on a piece of cut, ripe plum would suffice?
"there are marshmallows, gumdrops, and peppermint canes, with stripings of scarlet or gold, and you carry away of the treasure that rains as much as your apron can hold!"
I was so excited to get this book because "The Sugar Plum Tree" poem by Eugene Field is a favorite of mine. I was extremely disappointed that the author--Katherine James--wrote her own version of the poem based on Field's poem. Nevertheless, I still like it and the illustrations by Jan Dolby are great.
