This title is nominated for the 2019 Hackmatack Award in the non-fiction category. It tells us the story of up-and-coming NHL player Connor McDavid & how he became the youngest captain in the league. I really like how team-centred Connor's philosophy is. Throughout the book they emphasized his commitment to working hard and being a team player. Rather than seeking personal glory, his focus seems to be on contributing to the team. I think this is a very positive message for young people. I thought that the graphic pages provided a nice change of pace, switching things up a little to keep reluctant readers interested & engaged. My only criticism is that it is pretty early in his career to start talking about his achievements, however it became clear upon reading the book that Connor has already accomplished a lot of things for someone so young. I think this book would be inspirational for any kids who love team sports, especially hockey. Would recommend for ages 8 and up.
