I realize the world has plummeted to the depths of hell itself however, that does not mean I have to accept it. Why do authors feel the need to over exemplify sex? Why can't we be more graceful stating: ...as he lowered his hand vs my p *"sy was soaking wet??? A bit of CLASS let's us create our own fantasy..MINE DOES NOT thrive on over done crass! Give us a bit of leeway! Might I remind you skeptics that the huge hit "50 Shades..." NEVER had to describe the bodily residuals of sex? It didn't use tacky crass name for where his or her body parts are going nor the ...viscosity, color and amount !!!!! This just ruined the entire book for me so I couldn't continue nor could the rest of varying ages of 50+ female book club! Suggestive OK. Crass names...thumbs down!!!!
In the first book of the set, Unapologetic the situation Cara puts herself into with River is not sexy, it is appalling. I could not read past chapter 2 for the pure reason that the relationship between Cara and River reminds me of a relationship of my own that more or less mirrors theirs. Although, unlike her, I was never foolish enough to allow such a manipulative and self-centered guy back into my life. I cannot truly express how many things I immediately find wrong with Cara just in the first few chapters, including the fact that she makes an incredibly huge mistake at the very beginning of the book.
DNFing @ a mere 2% because, much as I like the kind of angsty premise, I simply cannot put up with the writing. It's like the author regurgitated a thesaurus without truly understanding the words she chose. Like she had a goal of making each sentence as long as possible. There's no concept of voice and how it changes with age or the kind of language people speak or think in. It's painful. Truly painful.
Overall the books center around what I feel is women going back to their abusers and giving them a 'second chance' because the men have 'changed'. Sure, the sex scenes were okay, but the basis of the books wasnt what I was expecting.
It was bad. Every single one of them. To me they are all sluts or manwhores How can you go fuck around while claiming to be in love with someone. It was childish and immature. It was plain disgusting and dumb
Each leads to multiple follow-up books. I do not want to be tricked into buying multiple books. Authors need to sell each as one complete novel, not in portions.
