Rate this book
Falling in love doesn’t lessen a ghost detective’s workload, so when a mystery client contacts her for help, Jayce crosses the country, curiosity biting her in the butt with each mile she travels. But the mystery client is a famous face, Marla Davison. An actress with a Crown Prince and Princess for parents and whose recent past has been shrouded in secrets, making her as infamous as she is famous.
Jayce helps the dead, not the living. But when she calls on her ghostly pals to help the spirit haunting her client, she soon realizes helping the dead isn’t enough.
Cue the arrival of Drake Edwins, her new boyfriend and eminent psychologist.
As a team, they have to discern exactly why Marla’s being haunted and how to help the spirit cross over. But the truth has barbs neither expected, and Jayce’s role of ghost detective is no longer enough.
When the chance for vengeance arises, Jayce can step up to the plate and do what needs to be done, or she can remain the passive detective she’s always been.
With the man she’s growing to love at her side, there’s never been a better time for her to evolve into what she should always have been—Jayce Ventura: Ghost Avenger.

Jayce Ventura - Ghost Detective to Jayce Ventura - Ghost Avenger
I love the sassy, strong, independent side of Jayce but I also enjoyed seeing her sweet, innocent, vulnerable side in this book. She lets hers guard down and really lets Drake in. The two of them come together not only to help the dead but the living as well. In a strange house in the middle of nowhere unexpected secrets are revealed causing the need for not only closure and peace but vengeance as well. I look forward to more from Jayce and Drake!

Spokesperson for the dead, what a calling!

Jayce is thrown in with a high profile client, and developing feelings for Drake. The odd combination of professions is so contradictory, yet it works. Great slow burn build up relationship between them. Love the world building involved.

Marla’s loss, may cause possible triggers for some. Her story isn’t sweet, her life remains connected with her dead son’s. The intertwined life, love and death, the ones you leave behind, was certainly present in this read. 4.5 ⭐️

We get to know more about Jayce a ghost whisperer who is being asked by a secret client to come and help her with a ghost problem. Jayce normally doesn’t go for secret clients but something about this case intrigues her. So against her better judgment and the less than enthusiastic responses from Kenna isn’t helping her decide if she made a good choice or not.

After some prove to me you can see my ghost testing by her new client Marla Davison, Jayce finds out that the ghost in question is Charles an eight y/o boy who is Marla’s son. Child ghosts are not Jayce’s favorite type of ghost to work with. They are petulant and due to their age and not understanding death fully they are the hardest to move on and to deal with.

As Jayce spends more time with both Marla and Charles she realizes that there is more to this case than previously thought. After assessing Marla’s mental health she asks Drake if he would come and offer his services to Marla. Since Drake knows first hand what Jayce can do if the ghost and the client are in accord he comes to their aid.

In the process of helping both the living and the dead some dreadful events are uncovered. The need to avenge the young ghost now has Jayce making some decisions that may affect how she feels about what she is able to do for her clients.

Drake is having a hard time getting Marla to open up and admit how she really feels. At his wits end he makes a decision to seek the assistance of someone from Marla’s life. His major concern is the fragility of Marla’s mental state and her ability to process the dreadful information that Jayce has gleaned from her deceased son.

Since he and Jayce are staying at Marla’s mansion and they are sharing a room things heat up and the two finally consummate their relationship.

Jayce still has her snarky side and Kenna still likes to push her buttons at times. This case also has Drake discovering a side to Jayce he did not know existed. To prove her family wrong she got herself admitted to Yale to study Psychology. True she didn’t take it any further but to her being able to at least best her brother made her dislike of dealing with “The Establishment” more palatable.

There were a lot of things I liked about this story and some things were a little frustrating. There were a few times when I had to go back and reread a bit to find out who was speaking. Plus to me this story was a bit disjointed and it did not have the flow and feel of “Ghost Detective” the earlier story. I did like the passion that Jayce and Drake were finally able to express and the newfound closeness they feel with each other. Liked getting to know a little bit more of her ghostly entourage.

Should also mention there is a possible trigger warning involving the young ghost. If you have issues with stories that involve hurting a young child please be aware that it is in the story. Plus there are some mental health issues with Marla that some may find upsetting. The author handles the subject matter well and there is only discussion about the events that occurred with the young ghost but for some it can be upsetting.

Jayce is surrounded by a ghost entourage we were introduced to in the first book – including her best friend and surrogate mother. While this second book in the series can stand on its own, reading the first book in the series will provide additional depth to certain things mentioned in this one.

Jayce has dedicated her life to helping ghosts resolve the issues holding them on this plane and pass over to the afterlife. She periodically has customers request her services and fly her to their location. After one such customer turns out to be a childhood movie star favorite of hers, she insists the reclusive film idol use the services of her new psychiatrist boyfriend in exchange for Jayce assisting the celebrity’s ghost.

Warning – while no specific details are provided (thank goodness), this story does contain disturbing information regarding a child. Only something this horrible could bring out Jayce’s anger to the point of deciding whether she is simply assisting ghosts to pass over or going the extra several miles to avenge the wrongs done to cause their deaths.

Second warning – while the first story was clean in the category of romance/sex, this story has a very, very hot sex scene. Good thing they are somewhere with lots and lots of snow. Grin

Unique premise, fun execution – great read!!

Jayce doesn’t have many “real” friends – her life is too crowded with ghosts. Kenna has been with her since she was four, and more of a mom than anything. Ghosts follow Jayce because they are relieved someone can see them at all, or they need her to do something for them.

When a mysterious client hires Jayce she flies to an undisclosed location to attempt to help. But in this case the living needs help too, so boyfriend and eminent psychologist Drake is called to join them. When an injustice is the cause for the ghostly presence, Jayce finds herself in Avenger mode.

Not your typical romance, but then not your typical anything here…. A great addition to this series!!!

I really am enjoying this series. Each book gets better and better. When Jayce is asked to help with a ghost and has no idea where or who she is dealing with Drake is upset. Jayce is realizing the full extent of her feelings towards Drake and the same goes for him. The case ends up being a very disturbing case for Jayce when she learns things about the young ghost she'd rather not know. Between her and Drake they work there hardest to improve things for the person who has hired her. Such a great story. I'm excited for the next book.

Equal parts mystery and spice.

This book has an intriguing twist to the ghost world.

Jayce speaks up for people who can't. She tries to bring them peace and I love that we not only see her strength, but her vulnerability as well, the toll it takes on her to hear and see the things she does. We learn more about Drake in this book, and I feel he is the perfect fit for Jayce. His patience and intellect are a great balance, and his smirk of arrogance is humanizing- and a touch to his inner character that I love.

Jayce is whisked away by a mysterious client who requires her help with a ghost. Flying in luxury aboard a Lear jet, Jayce doesn't know where she is going or who she is meeting until she lands. When she enters the limousine waiting at the private airstrip, she greets her favourite childhood movie star, Marla Davison. Marla's son Charles died in a car accident when he was eight and all she wants is to know if he is watching over her or if he has gone over to the light. Jayce senses that there is more to the story than Marla is letting on so she convinces her to talk to Drake, who is a renowned psychologist in exchange for helping little Charles cross over. Together, Jayce and Drake must help Charles and Marla escape the gilded cage they have been living in, whether by choice or by force.

Good story

I enjoyed this story because of the little details. Sure, you might wonder why Marla is alone in a huge house of her own with no one but the servants in their, but it was something I could relate to (on a much smaller scale.) I like how Jayce is learning to trust Drake, and how she is still staying true to herself. Plus their relationship is progressing so YAY!!!
Overall a shorter story but a goodie. Glad I picked it up and look forward to the next book!

As always Serena writes and delivers a uniquely different story....this, being book 2 follows on from the Ghost Detective, continues on the story with the amazing talent of Jayce has to communicate with those that are stuck and not passed over....this is where she grows from being a Ghost Detective to a Ghost Avenger....and boy does she get revenge for her ghosts not just once but twice...I'm not going to spoil it for anyone but you just need to read and enjoy

I loved this debut but this was even better. You learned to love the characters in book one so in this book you know their little quirks and kinks so it is so enjoyable. This was a fast, fun book to read and Jayce once again learns that the dead and living both need her help. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

A well written addition to the series that shows Jayce and Drake moving on with their romance and Jayce finally moving into her powers of speaking with and for ghosts. The story shows that love revenge can either weaken or strengthen you. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Heartbreaking

Jayce is called out on a job. She doesn't know who it is with or where the jet was taking her. The story is two fold. One about Marla and the other about the son she lost.
Jayce can't do it alone and calls on Drake. They have some tough decisions to make.
Caution their could be some triggers for certain people, but it was an excellent read.

This was beautiful and heartbreaking. I definitely love Jayce even more now, her heart is huge. This series is just right for my current mellow mood, and makes me happy even with its somber subject. I definitely recommend reading this series and I look forward to reading the next installment.

I don’t really know what happened to me but the writing just felt meh - the most average and boring meh you could imagine. It’s a very short book but I couldn’t bring myself to finish it.

Maybe it’s a harsh assessment that (though i doubt it) got affected by my mood or the timing but it’s what it is right now.

Amazing

As always I'm beyond impressed with this story it's not a love story but a story about love revenge and how it can weaken you or make you stronger. It's the need to know what happens next and how they get there. I loved it and cant wait for more books in this series

This is a great little novella to get the story started. Serena does an excellent job starting to develop the characters so they seem real and I know more is to come! The idea behind a Ghost Detective is so intriguing and I can’t wait to read more.

Brilliant

This series is very different to others by this author, but the characters are just as well written and the storylines imaginative.
I love the relationship development between Jayce and Drake, with just the right amount of sex.
I’ll be reading the next book right away.

The Ghost avenger

Another great adventure with the witty and slightly sarcastic Jayce. A twisted tale of family drama and Jayce unravels the secrets of the past with the help of her ghost friends.
