The things you do for a job interview...

Lol, but in all honesty, a very smooth read. I especially liked the way the author involved the stories of India's leaders, both past and present, to draw conclusions on what indeed "makes a politician."

Ridiculous and yet highly relevant.
The title of the book " What makes a politician " on the face of it looks ridiculous to a general Indian reader to whom Politicians are born in families or cast in those Business castles.
The Author with a background of working closely with representatives of all hues throws light on the lesser known life on India's political class. The books delves on fundamental qualities needed for a public representative.
In its effort to dissect the Indian polity the book comes up with policy focus on wages to Parliamentarians. The author in her effort to see people from all walks of life to enter politics provides a pathway for a middle class professional to take up the path of politics.
The times we are in where for the first time in independent Indian history we could see the posts of PM , President and Vice President being manned by the individuals coming from the humblest of backgrounds . The very fact inspires millions of social sensitive individuals to take up the mantle of Indian politics and for whom this book provides a basic background.

A primer on how to enter and thrive in Indian politics, ethically and effectively. A walkthrough into basic expectations and responsibilities of a politician and provides an insight into the political world.
Author, being a politician herself, has given ample examples of her insights, experiences of real-life politicians and explains their drive, motive without pulling in controversies that surrounds them, playing the blame-game like a typical journalist. This is much appreciable as it inducts in us, a sense of rationale, a political acumen which helps a reader to consider/approach Indian politics and it's politicians as a study.

A short read with actionable steps towards becoming a politician in India. Purely for the Indian audience. It also has questions for introspection whilst choosing a career in India Politics.
