Danny had a lot of problems in his life; however, unlike his brother Aaron, most of Danny's problems were self inflicted. At twenty-five Danny had succeeded in completing absolutely nothing in his life. He had dropped out of school when he was fifteen, had never had a job, and had never attempted to get his drivers license. Showing no signs of ever wanting to do anything more than smoke, play video games, and eat half the food in the fridge everyday, Danny's parents had had enough of his behavior and kicked him out of the house. Now desperate, Danny is forced to make a choice, one that would put him in more danger than he could ever imagine.
Warning: this book contains explicit sexual content, abuse, and strong language.
I almost gave this book 3 and 1/2 Stars because I found parts of it so difficult to read. Lenore Darcy knows how to write a dark story. This one that involved such abuse was harder to read than the serial killers with Aaron.
Danny gets caught in the trap of a sadistic Baptist preacher. He completely dominates him and tries to destroy his self esteem. Very heavy stuff. It was too well written not to give it four stars, although like the other books it still needs a better editor.
The author takes your heart in her hand in this story of a dysfunctional family with two boys who face some of society’s most evil predators. Aaron has survived his ordeal and now Danny finds himself outcast, adrift without a safe haven. The solace he seeks with the family pastor is upended when Danny faces his own predator. Danny finds he can never be perfect enough in his new setting to find the peace and acceptance he so desperately seeks.
