WARNING: This book contains romance (and sex) between one woman and six men, and she doesn't have to choose just one. Also contains: raunchy humor, too many puns, group sex, a bit of M/M, and plenty of action, violence, and intrigue.
Six hunky, supernatural tradesmen. One sarcastic, caffeine addicted bride. A match made by fate … or karma?
My name is Arizona Smoke, and I have six husbands. Yup. Count 'em—six. Four sexy plumbers, one electric electrician ... and my last husband? Total prick. Our unconventional marriage is almost complete. All I need to do is reconcile with my first love, and rescue a man I’ve never met. Easy, right?
As if marrying a bunch of supernatural plumbers isn't hard enough, I also have to deal with the fact that my biological father and his six wives (yeah, I have six moms, too) are still hunting us, stalking us through sex parties hosted by demons and setting traps for us in the middle of underground supernatural raves. And you thought your family was dysfunctional!
All I wanted was a moment to breathe, a chance to get to know my new husbands in a way that was more than sexual—although I'm not exactly complaining about our time in the bedroom. But between my maniacal mother-in-law, some kidnapped lady-elementals, and the rich asshole I'm supposed to welcome into my new harem … when's a girl got time for dates? Let alone planning a seven-way ... wedding that is.
I'm Ari Smoke, spirit elemental, supernatural bada**, and hot-as-f*ck dragon chick. Having six hot husbands is nice … but being hunted by evil sex demons, not so much.
ELEMENTS OF RUIN is a full-length comedic paranormal, reverse harem romance. This means our leading lady has six male love interests and doesn't have to choose between them. This book is full of steamy sex, ridiculous plumbing puns, and heaps of action, intrigue, and ... well, more puns. This is book 2 of 3.
Well shit, if the books keep ending like that I may just wait for the series to be over to finish it. I did love it though and was happy that the humor was turned down just a smidge and the sexy tunes were turned way up!
This book had me alternating between laughing and fanning myself which was just great. Either way i was unable to put the thing down until I hit the last page which of course leaves of hanging. I swear if I didn't love Tate's books so much I would hate her instead but that is impossible with writing this good. Bad puns aside this book was just awesome as the group dealt with attacks, family drama (Ari standing up for herself was awesome), and faulty magic that all came together to create an incredible story that I was sad to have come to an end. If you enjoy funny paranormal RH novels then you so have to read this book/series. I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This installment starts out immediately after the events of the first book, a battle aftermath. It sets the stage as a reminder that this book will be a little more intense than the first.
Not a lot. It’s 35% pun after all. But a little more intense.
For the most part, I was 100% in. It’s still fun as all get out, sexy times to beat all sexy times (seriously. Whoa), and an actual story on top of it. There was less overall satire of the community and more references to the wriers’ books. There’s nothing wrong with that per se, it just made the story a little less magical and a little more promotional. Which makes sense completely, I just found myself a little disappointed by it. The plumbing puns were down, but still there; however, you don’t feel their lack because the acronym puns more than take their place.
This series wouldn’t be the same without puns, after all.
Well done: Family dynamics - you start to understand what’s going on a little bit more. Not a whole lot, but some of the animosity is resolved and their group gets a little more cohesive. The way Warden was handled was my favorite part I think. Both characters accepted their mistakes and had some seriously believable fights before the inevitable make-up. Ari’s heartbreaking pain was almost a living thing and I felt as sad as she did, good job writers. Good freaking job.
Less well done: I know the ending was to get us interested in the next book, but there didn’t seem any basis for it. To be fair, that statement may be retracted when the next book proves me wrong. There was a betrayal I did NOT see coming and didn’t buy (partially because the MC didn’t buy it), and the plot point seemed to be added to assuage some moral dilemmas and a little deus ex machina thrown in for good measure. But I’m withholding true judgement until the last book. I trust these authors and I’m sure they’ve thought of answers to these things or are laughing because that’s exactly how they want us to feel.
Conclusion: One of my favorite sexy times books, a story and emotional support that makes it worth re-reading and not just bookmarking certain (ahem) scenes. Definitely looking forward to the ending and how everything is resolved.
Like the first book, Elements of Ruin was incredibly over-the-top on all fronts: puns, plots, and penises. (Sorry, I couldn't help the alliteration.) At times, it got a bit too much, which is maybe why I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. I might have benefited with a longer waiting period between reading each book. It was also just a bit too ridiculous, with all the random characters. I was half wishing for someone normal to show up.
One thing I did love about this is how meta it got at times, making references to various tropes and genres. "Straighter than a YA sweet romance novel" had me nodding knowingly, because it is very true for most of YA romance. (Though that is slowly changing.) I wanted to both laugh and cringe at the references to the authors' other work. (Arizona and the boys go to a bookstore and buy a book by C.M. Stunich.)
I was happy to see some more actual relationship development between Arizona and the boys, though the ending to this might have thrown a wrench into that. We'll see in a couple of weeks, won't we! I was also a big fan of the ratcheted up sexy scenes, especially towards the end.
Ok so this book was a Lot better than the first it I feel it has a Lot more room to grow! I loved the turn of events and this one but man that cliffhanger was a doozy. I mean WTF? Now I have to see what the heck is going on. Hopefully is the next book Arizona learns how to be the bad*** b*tch I know she could become with out the numb blonde moments going on!
Why would you be so cruel to end the book like that! I was left mouth open and huge O SHI*! Now that that's off my chest, this was a great book. The book had alot of action, especially the good kind ;). The story will keep you intrigued from beginning to end, and the end will leave you shocked. Throughout the entire book there are many funny puns and many laugh out loud moments, I can't wait for book three.
AHH Holy crap that ending tho!!!?😱 Whaat the fuck don't leave me hanging there... ofc there has to be ha big F-kn chliffhanger at the very end😩 But as you can tell at my rating it was lit so good, in this book we got to meet all of her guys. Rawr we get a lot of smut scenes in this and even a orgy😏
Arizona Smoke has recently found out that she is the spirit elemental in a sept of elementals and is soul bonded to six male elementals, four sexy plumbers, one electrician who happens to be her 'first', and a sexy, but awful Irishman. Her two best friends hate each other, oh and one is a werewolf, the other a succubus. She is haunted by her grandmother, hated by her future mother-in-law, and hunted by her bio-dad and his 6 wives. She just wants to get to know her 'husbands' better and have some hot group sex, but instead, she's fighting for her life and making big enemies in the paranormal community.
This second installment of the Hijinks Harem is even better than the first. Funny, sexy, full of action. I love the unapologetic, in your face bawdiness. It's over the top, punny fun. The writing is solid and it's obvious that the two authors are having a blast with this series. The Harem is complete now and we get to spend plenty of 'quality' time with all of the guys. There's no shortage of sexy times in every combination; MF, MMF, MMM, MFM. It borders on porn in the best of ways, but the storyline is solid, the sex fits in to strengthen it. My only issue with the sex was all of the hate sex. I realize that others enjoy this, but I personally don't. It makes me feel bad. This is a my taste and I do not judge on anything so personal, only the writing and story quality.
Ari is an interesting lead female. I think she's incredibly balanced and normal considering. She has moments of strength and moments of utter failure. She drinks to much. She has walls around her heart, although they are crumbling. She loves her besties fiercely. She's funny and vulnerable. The guys are all bold personalities. The newest member Dustin easily takes over the top spot as Reigning A**. Shane is adorable with his southern charm, George is a sweetie, Reg is incorrigible, and Billy is sexy and intense. Warden is my favorite. I love his crazy sayings, his honesty concerning himself, and the strength of his feelings for Ari. His anger and pain hurt me at times, but I understood him. I love Britt and her wolfie ways. I hate Siobhan equally. I did not like her connection to Dustin from the beginning. I'm also not a fan of Joan. Enough!
This is a book that you can't put down once you start. The suspense, the constant surprises are addicting. Each time you think that you have a handle on what is happening, everything is upended. That's especially true with the ending. Cliffhanger isn't the proper word. I have never actually yelled at and ending before, but I did with this one. I can't decide if I was more shocked or infuriated. Either way, the first chapter of the final book is vitally important to me. Depending on how Ari's husbands all react will be key to me. I'm worried even thinking about how wrong it could all go and I know I won't forgive any harm done to Ari's heart. February seems so far away!
Amazing follow-up to Elements of Mischief! I liked that this one had more twists and turns than Book 1, but didn't decrease in the amount of steaminess and hilarity. I really enjoyed the addition of Warden and am still cautious of Dusty. I absolutely loved the M/M action that Tate and CM continue to add in this series, keep it coming ladies <3
In this book you get to learn more about Warden and Dusty, how they all ended up connected, and get to see some of Ari's walls come down in the process. I liked that she was a little more serious in this one, you can tell she is falling for her guys and is coming to terms with everything and embracing it. There's more Daddy and evil momma drama and some awesomely vivid scenes (loved the visual I got with the gold and silver during the ritual!). I can't wait to see where Tate and CM take the story in the final book of the trilogy. I adored the little cameos/references to their previous books, made me smile and giggle to see them. I didn't think the ending was as big of a deal as other readers have, just know that they did it for a reason and things will work out in Book 3, they always do. I can't wait for Book 3, this series was a nice break from some of the more serious RH series I have read this year. I recommend this series to everyone, especially if you need a pick me up!
To be quite frank, I don’t really like this series. Although I have nothing against m/m books, they’re not my speed and this series certainly has a lot of that going on. However I’m still going to try to finish the last book.
I love this series! This one is basically a Huge (pun intended) steamy 7-way😂😂😂 It's got everything and will have you googling 😂 It's so funny and has great heart! The bomb drop at the end had me downloading book 3 immediately! 🔥🔥🔥
This book was an absolutely amazing fun and sexy read! If you are looking for a reverse harem with plenty of steam and don't mind guy action as well then give this book a go.
This book had me going the whole way with all the comedy, romance, and action. This book had me laughing one minute then had me wondering what would happen the next and then had me loving all the steamy action. I ended not being able to help myself in telling others about the book because this book just had me so happy that I had picked up and started reading again after being in a bit of a reading slump.
This book has plenty of steamy scenes so I would recommend this to people 18 and up only. Be advised that Arizona, the main character does have a fiery side that does involve quite a foul mouth but it is so worth it.
5-star review of Elements of Ruin (book 2 Hijinks Reverse Harem) by Tate James & C.M Stunich
Well what can I say? The second book in this elementals series is far better than the first. The first book I felt was lacking, in what I’m not quite sure. Perhaps it was that there wasn’t much progressing in the first book but a lot of set up for the second. This book has plenty of funny phrases and one liners which I like; however perhaps too many puns. It was okay in the beginning but it is the same puns and jokes over and over; it’s almost like the authors are trying too hard to be funny.
I liked the pop culture referenced; Fifty Shades, Pokemon, the bachelor, the authors other published books etc. Plenty of things to relate to that make it seem more realistic.
I can honestly say I was not sold on the introduction of the new character but perhaps he will grow on me. I like how Ari’s character has evolved; she isn’t quite the alcoholic, foul mouthed failure she was in the first book, I would perhaps like her to cry and have a little bit of a melt down she’s perhaps a little too tough; which is fine but realistically after what she goes through who wouldn’t have a few tantrums and tears? Some consoling from the guys would be nice, as they all seem a bit ‘dickish’ as our heroine puts it. Loved Reg standing up to his bitch Mother and defending Ari; I think there’s been quite a bit of character growth with him and George. Shane I felt was a little out of the loop through the whole book; he was all in charge in book one but as soon as the other two guys appear he takes a step back.
There are some very, very steamy and smutty scenes that may not be to everyone’s tastes! Think of what fifty shades was trying to do but never managed because it was tame, I would say this book is graphic and definitely Erotica with an actual story! Phewwwwee, I thought the booom chica wow wow scenes were very well written; however not having had 6 men I really couldn’t attest to the authenticity of it!
There are some surprising reveals in this book and wow the ending what a cliff hanger, can’t wait for the next book.
I don’t want to give anything away because it would ruin a perfectly good series to give spoilers. If you like a strong female lead with a snarky sense of humour and a mouth like a sailor, with plenty of male interest and some ...’hawt..’ sexy time then I would most definitely recommend this book.

This book sucked me right in! Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!! But freaking seriously?!?!? To leave a girl hanging??? My heart is pounding! I need the next one to CUM out already! Great second book to what is going to be an amazeballs trilogy! Great work ladies!
First of all, I really love the concept of the story and how the lead female character was super funny and I loved the four original mates of hers, but it was a little overwhelming emotionally with all the different relationships aside from Arizona. And that’s totally fine. I just was not really prepared with how much they seem to need with their own relationships in the group and it didn’t seem like they had a lot of care for how she felt and just expected her to know all this stuff and be OK with it and still keeping things from her. She had a lot of inner monologue that that she did in the story than her actually talking and expressing her feelings I guess. I kinda was hoping she would show up that dusty character more and put them in his place and I know he was under whatever control with her friend, but it was just kind of weird and then with all the separate sexual situations going on in the same room and they’re supposed to be having the group thing, but some of the guys are completely fine without even messing with her and again that’s totally fine, but I just wish that they had more interest in her than wanting something separate with one or two the other guys. It just didn’t seem like she was the main character in the story, the guys just seem like they could’ve been fine just being together themselves and then she was just added in the mix and that’s fine if they do a little touching and all that it just kind of got a little too much, personally for me when some of them were still being jerks to her and then not even really satisfying in a way to me to get her emotional needs met. And it just seems to be so much filler in between I’m not getting that satisfying action from her side. I’m halfway through the second book and I’m I think I’m gonna just stop right here and I’m super bum because I again loved it. I just it was just a little too much of everyone else. There was a lot going on and I didn’t really have enough from her,not enough kicking ass I guess from her.Lol but maybe I didn’t read the triggers in depth, but maybe put a little disclaimer that says multiple individual relationships in the mix with all of them because I like the polyamory thing, I like when the female is more the center of it than having multiple relationships going on in the mix. It’s just a little too much emotions for me to get excited for anything and takes too long to get her to stand up for herself and push back.
This sequel just solidified how much I love this series. It’s still very funny with plenty of puns and meta jokes, but this one is a tad bit more serious as it focuses more on the war and the state of the supernatural world.
And I always want to know what comes next. (Or who, because it’s usually some sort of group sex.) The cheesy plumber puns just keep coming and the camp remains high. I am seriously having so much fun reading this series. I don’t know how it’s not a cult classic, because it should be.
My tiny pet peeves from the last book were not nearly as bothersome in this one. Though I did gain some new ones… The hateful mother-in-law bit was getting really old. Especially when no one was standing up to her. Of course, eventually the guys came to their senses and stood up for Arizona, but damn did that go on way too long.
Also, the way everyone treats Arizona as if she is stupid for not knowing how to be a supernatural when she has been living as human for 29 years is so frustrating… They should treat her like she’s stupid for never listening to her psychic ghost grandma who is always right.
Also, that ending?! Girl, what?
As always, the only way to get a perfect 5 on the audio score is to have multiple narrators playing different characters within the dialogue for a full theatrical presentation. So, 4/5 is my audio rating as this was a first person single POV and the narrator did very well on her own.
The FMC gets treated like shit by some of the men and she is aroused by it. I have no problem when characters use snark as their love language but not absolute verbal abuse.
Dustin is an absolute asshole. He treats the FMC with utter disdain, verbal abuse, contempt. The FMC gets aroused by this sort of treatment. Nope!!! Full stop! Nope! This is enough to ruin the entire book for me. I can’t stand Dustin’s toxicity or how the book condones it. Having this be acceptable in the books implies that it should be acceptable in reality. This could lead people who read this especially people with limited experience to think this is “normal.” There is already to much misogynistic, toxic, hateful speech in the world. It shouldn’t be normalized, definitely not used to arouse someone. If verbal abuse is someone’s kink, then I would hope there was a solid consensual foundation before scenes would be acted out and would have safe words. Not used at the start of a relationship where there hasn’t been any communication, consent or trust built.
It comes out that all of her mates aren’t preordained but are the result of one of the men in the harem. She has had her life derailed and yet is treated poorly by most everyone (except George) at some point especially by the MIL.
There are so many plot holes, things that doesn’t make sense, convoluted ideas, and plain idiotic things. For example the characters hear about a thing that is happening. They figure the big bads will be there. So they wander in to spy and of course it’s a total trap. The MIL happens to be the person in charge in the area and because one of the men didn’t do what she wanted she won’t bring in anyone to help take down the big bad. Even though the big bads are trying to kill all the elementals. Afterwards the MIL verbally abuses the FMC and makes it out to be completely the FMC’s fault. None of the men notice how horrible the MIL is. They just go along with everything.
For a book, marked as comedic,it was surprisingly unfunny. Well,I guess authors decided that onslaught of terrible puns, constant sexual innuendos and acronyms are funny, but they are not. It gets tiresome after the first few and terribly annoying the more they are used. The whole book consists of sex scenes with few and sparse plot going on. So sparse, that reader have to wonder what was the point of the plot at all,if it is never developed. Oh,and the main heroine/love interest is an alcoholic in denial. To make her supposedly more real, authors also made her dumb. Like absolutely dumb. So dumb that any reader with an IQ over 100 have to wonder where the inspiration of sutch idiocity came from. I truly hope it was not inspired by actual person, that would be just sad.
So,the book promotes sex as love, sex as cure, sex as everything really. Barely there plot, blatant advertising of both authors other works and names( I absolutely despise when authors do that) ,terrible, terrible cultural references- think tv shows, movies, books, performers, unfunny jokes, bad puns, you name it. Basically, if you skip all of above, you can come up of barely couple of pages of actual plot going on. Not my cup of tea.
These still aren’t my favorite books. But it’s a testament to these two authors that even though these are some of the raunchiest, silliest books that I’ve ever read, they’re still able to make me feel heart broken for Siobhan about Dustin. Tate’s way with creating these amazing worlds combined with CM’s emotional depth of writing can take. it. there. even in the midst of public sex and silly acronyms. Anyway, an penance for my negative feelings, here are my thoughts, as I had them:
These acronyms will be the death of me.
I hate the term “bio”. Bio dad. Bio parents. Bio, bio, bio. Blegh.
I would like to also take back the phrase ‘basic btch’. It’s mine. I own it. Figuratively. Not like I’m going to TRADEMARK that. 🙄
Tomorrow-Ari = Future-Kit. Easter egg!
Ugh, Warden. I can’t believe I’m reading this book. It’s so cheesy.
“I feel like Alice”. God, I love all of these obscure tie-ins.
Kit Davenport themed underwear. Kmn.
Ugh. I hate all of this time with Dustin and Warden. I miss George. I miss Shane. I miss Billy. Reg, whatever.
What the heck was that ending?! I wasn’t really interested in finishing this series because I don’t really care for the repressed homosexuality and terribly-punny sex puns/scenes, but I need to read the next book to figure out what that last line meant.... Also, I know this is just a reverse harem erotica, so not much is to be expected in terms of plot or development because it is all about sex. However, I can’t get past the fact that the boys show no chemistry with eachother or Arizona. The group is thrown together in a matter of days and develop insta-lust with their soulmate. But, I can appreciate the fact that Arizona was trying to get to know her mates, so that redeems the insta-lust. After finishing “Elements of Ruin,” I know that I would prefer reading about Arizona and Warden because they have chemistry. If the book series was just them, I think it would have been far superior. The other boys, on the other hand, are just alive sex toys for Arizona. Anyway, we will see if I continue this series after the next book or shelve it for enternity.
BLEEDING HELL. THAT CLIFFHANGER…. No I’m going to throw up. That was the cruellest ending, my heart literally dropped into my stomach and I felt the rug ripped out from under me.
THIS BOOK. ugh, I’m so glad I continued with the series, it has truly grown on me so much! I only wish she made Dusty work for it a bit more that is really my only complaint. He’s such a prick and she just chases him, let him work for it damnit.
I’m at such a loss for words. I finished this book so quickly I didn’t even realize I had gone through it; I need to know what happens next with this Gemma character, I really can’t handle other girl drama and this series is seriously dragging my heart through the mud here! Bring on the awkwardness that’s for fucking sure. Yikes, I don’t know if I’m ready..
All I know is I need Ari to get taken, or like, I need her to run away cause she’s so pissed about Gemma or SOMETHING. Like do something that doesn’t make you look like desperate for affection, have some dignity and respect for yourself girl, let’s go.
Ok. If you are in to funny and hot stories with some danger and a lot more humor and steaminess, then these books are for you. One minute I'm laughing at the ridiculousness and the next I can't believe how utterly HOT the story is! I can't get enough of these books!
This is book two, so if you haven't read book one, just go do it. But seriously, read it first. That's important. Ari and her men are in for new twists and turns this go round as they meet the sixth man in their... group. And he is a character! You'll love to hate him. Or maybe hate to love him? Either way, the whole dynamic takes a little change to accommodate this guy, but whether or not it'll really work between all seven is still to be determined.
This was such a fun read. I really enjoyed from start to finish and could not put it down. Seriously, I just kept reading. Stunich and James are insanely good at what they do and I cannot wait to read the next book!
Book 2 in the Hijinks Harem trilogy was just as fun and sexy as the first! In this book we see Ari beginning to accept the guys as her bonded mates and finish filling her sept! Ari and Max/Warden deal with their past issues and finally begin to move forward, Ari meets Dustin (who is such a lovable asshole), and she and the guys learn more about her powers and evil parents. This book helped to fill some of the gaps from the first book, resolving some issues and showing the characters moving forward, and Ari admits to herself that she's falling for the guys. Also, as a result of Dustin being caught in a difficult situation when they meet, Ari makes a deal to marry her guys. The end of this book sees Ari and her guys getting married, big poofy cinderella dress and all, but also introduces us to a girl from the guys' pasts. Hopefully next book will tell us more about... and get rid of!.... this new chick and end with Ari and her guys' happily ever after :)!
