excellent stories

Obviously different in many ways from the movie. Only similarity is the characters and that it is only the first of 7 books about Barsoom. It is fantasy more than fiction when looked at in 2024 vs the year it was written. Still a good series of stories, from the author of Tarzan. ERB was certainly an author ahead of his time.

Just finished the first novel of the John carter series, "Princess of Mars" and just LOVED it. The action was non-stop. The characters were fairly well developed and complicated enough for me to care about them. Multiple plot lines abound! The idea that the main character had fought in the Civil War and relates to things in an early 20th century way was fascinating. This POV as well as the alien culture made the entire novel truly novel and entertaining to follow. Because the character names were literally alien to me, it challenged my memory to remember all of them but I did and the reward was great. Love this novel and loved going backwards in time and technology. Looking forward to the rest.

Nice and entertaining

To be honest, I had no expected that the Bsrsoom series was meant to be so entertaining. If you want to read some classic science fiction write hundred years ago, this is the set of books for you.
