No Jack Reacher

Lauren Pauling goes to remote island of San Clemente, looking to find out about a clients' daughters' death. They say she drowned but her father doesn't believe it. One, the water is ice cold, two, she couldn't swim and three, there are sharks around the island. This is my second novel by Ames with Jack Reacher's name being used to lure Lauren Pauling into a case. I enjoyed it but don't understand the title. Good read anyway!

This book is actually the first chronologically even though its the third in the series. Again with the Reacher bait and switch. Reacher's name is used to get Pauling involved in the case, but no sign of him.
Pauling is hired to go to San Clemente island to investigate a young woman's death. The population of the island is SOG and naturalists.
Good story, good lead character

The plot was ok, but the main reason for reading was because of the link to Jack Reacher, so what a con and let down when he did not appear anywhere. For Jack Reacher fans what a con, has Lee Child given his approval to use his hero's name? I will not read anymore Ames.

A little confuse I this one since Talon and Pulling seem to meet for the first time and they worked together in the first two?? But could the book have been wrongly numbered! The plot was interesting and the characters well worked with!

Again a good read, but could be expanded. Refers to items not covered in book. I'm sure Gallon was in last book, but treated as a new character. Book could be a full length novel very easily

This mystery series is known as the Jack Reacher Cases. Jack Reacher is the well know character in the very popular series written by Lee Child. Jack Reacher is used as a “hook” to get you to read this series and as a “hook” to get the main character of this series, Private Investigator Lauren Pauling, to accept the current case she is offered. Jack never actually appears in these stories. Lauren has a history with Jack since she was a primary character in a previously issued Lee Child Jack Reacher story, The Hard Way. This wasn’t a very tightly written story as events happen that seem to require some sort of introduction prior to the current event, but they aren’t explained. An example would be, how did Lauren and Blake Chandler know each other previously? Another, when did Lauren smoke pot before accepting an invitation to go to Rag City with Gabe? She admits to herself to being tipsy due to liquor and pot, but we never encounter her smoking any pot prior to meeting with Gabe. But we are well aware of her alcohol intake prior to meeting up with Gabe. Also, it wasn’t much of a mystery. Suspects only became such because they were there on San Clemente Island where the murder took place, no clues were presented as to motive and opportunity to have committed the murder. While this is the third book in the series, it is a prequel as the story occurs prior to Lauren meeting Michael Tallon who is an investigator who works with Lauren in the first two books of this series. I bought these three books as a boxed set. I will not be continuing to read other books in this series. You fooled me once with the Jack Reacher connection, but not again.

I think that Dan Ames gets better with every book he writes. This new series The Jack Reacher Cases have thus far been extremely well done and I can tell you if you can guess this who dunnit you are truly a master. I like many others love Lee Childs Jack Reacher books and I also love Diana Capri and her search for Jack books. Dan Ames has added his name to these books and has done a masterful job. This book starts with a death on San Clemente Island off the California coast where the military holds training exercises and scientists are saving a bird from extinction. Pauling is brought in to supposedly help Reacher in solving the young girls death. From there Pauling can't find Reacher and trys to solve the case on her own. I won't spoil it by saying what happens, but I will say you will keep turning the pages until you finish. I truly enjoyed this book

A man made for killing. Dan Ames

Pauline, a private investigator with a very impressive background is hired to investigate the death of an extremely wealthy mans daughter on San Clemente Island in California's channel islands. The Sheriffs department have labeled it as a drowning and the body was then mauled by great white sharks. The population of the island is primarily military and bird watchers or scientists monitoring birds and other wildlife on the island.. A uniquely extreme difference in human personalities. An extremely fast paced mystery full of twisty and turns. Enjoyed immensely.

A MAN MADE FOR KILLING by Dan Ames. Jack Reacher Cases
Talon see's the tattoo of a birds wings, he knew her. Pauline gets a call "Jack Reacher needs your help" odd, there is nothing he can't handle.
Nathan is sure his daughter was murdered, she didn't like swimming.Would she jump into icy water, murky, and full of sharks. Pauline, taking the case, she would make the odds to find out, what really happened. Something was going on with the Bird Sanctuary, involving young women, would Pauline being a female be in trouble. A good plot, you felt you were with Pauline on this case. What was the truth about Jack Reader asking for help. Awaiting another good read from Dan.

The third book in the Jack Reacher Cases series, but supposedly should have been the first. Go figure. Anyway, Lauren Pauling is hired by a billionaire to help Jack Reacher investigate what happened to his daughter, who drowned and was mauled by great sharks off California's San Clemente Island while working for scientific wildlife researchers. The rest of the island is "owned" by the military in all the ways that matter. Pauling arrives to find herself among the prey there, and then has to solve the mystery of what happened to someone who would not have even ventured to swim outside of a warm, waveless pool. (No Jack Reacher again.)

Pauling is called to an Island to find the Cause of death of a young woman. As the Island belongs to the military with part of the Island reserved to the bird society, Pauling must navigate through a sea full of sharks and an island of mysteries as none of the Nest nor the Military are willing to help apart for a navy officer called Michael Tallon. As Pauling comes closer to the truth, someone tries very hard to hide it.

Good introduction to what is to become a friendship between Tallon and Pauling, with Reacher’s elusive presence guiding them…

This book is a great thriller to read in a day. It has everything you’ll need, lots of gripping suspense, remoteness, no friends or backup, and the discovery of possibly more murders, lots of suspects and attempts on the heroines life

I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the setting, very believable, the whole book being well written, it just rolls fast forward on the pages and I had to hold on tight to keep up with this thriller.

Nope on this series, after reading the first three (this is the third but first in the chronology). "Jack Reacher" was always a false message to lure Pauling into a case. Obviously, the author doesn't have permission to use the character himself. Tallon seems to be around to dig her out of trouble with his superpower military skills and his blue eyes. The mystery in this one is rather ho-hum with a few weird red herrings. Nope, no more.

What surprised me in this book, (being the third one) is now Lauren Pauling is Meeting Michael Tallon for the first time, when in the other two they already knew each other. I do admit they each stand alone but why not put this first? Lauren Pauling is quite the character and at 50 years of age, pretty awesome. A very good read, maybe the best of these three. 5

Another great fast paced book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love trying to figure out who the guilty party is and love it even more when I'm not able to figure out the answer until the end. You'll definitely want to pick up this book to read.

Some people are not what they appear to be.

I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it. Dan Ames does a excellent job of writhing suspense filled stories that hold your attention to the ferry end.

This is number 3 of Dan Ames spin off series in the Jack Reacher universe, however people might want to read this book first then return to the first book. I still stand by my first impressions of these books as being enjoyable and the best spin offs of the Jack Reacher books I have read todate.

A Man Made for Killing is another long short story that has little to do with Reacher. This is set before Case 1 & 2. Lauren Pauling meets Michael Tallon for the first time on San Clemente island where he's a diving expert for the Military. The story is a murder mystery with plenty of suspects & a twists. 3.5 stars.

Lauren Pauling is tricked into searching to what happened to a rich man’s daughter on a desolate island just off the coast of California that is used by conservationists and the military for training exercises.

Cut off from the rest of humanity, with little to do in their off time, the two groups residing there have a somewhat lawless community that in some cases leads to death.

Overall I enjoyed reading the book. But I had expected a Jack Reacher adventure. In that, I was disappointed. But it was a good read.

Book 3 in the Series

Once again, Dan Ames comes through with a winner. This book is a page-turner right from the start, and continues until the very end.

This is the 3rd book in the series but first in chronological order and much better the the last one. Still a short book but with only one story line. Much better in my opinion.
