Lovely. Well written, quite insightful, thought provoking and very enjoyable. This is one book that I will happily purchase the actual physical copy so I can write in the margins and show it to friends.
What a wonderful and gifted writer. I read my first day in Finding the Gift this morning and loved it. I will look forward to reading Angela Howell's inspirational and insightful reflections each day. Thank you Ms. Howell for sharing your introspection with us.
'Finding the Gift' redirects the mind, refreshes the soul and motivates the heart. Fantastic! Amazing daily read and a thoughtful gift for family and friends.” Kathleen Johnson, Writer
I started reading FINDING THE GIFT when I was looking for a book of mindfulness exercises to help improve my day-to-day life and mental health. I wanted short, daily meditations that would help me focus on the positives in life, but I also wanted meditations without a religious spin. FINDING THE GIFT completely fits the bill. It’s hard to find inspirational reads that don’t employ religion to deliver their message, and I greatly appreciate that Howell makes mindfulness accessible to anyone. If you’re thinking about a daily meditation or mindfulness ritual, I urge you to give FINDING THE GIFT a try.
This feels like someone saw a weird tree, decided to start meditating, and turned their daily journal into a book. Maybe I'm too narcissistic for meditation, but I don't care about someone else's rumination. Give me a concept and allow me to contemplate it on my own, uninfluenced. Instead, I am sifting through what the author saw on her walk one day or the antics of squirrels.
Honestly-- let's start with being fortunate enough to live somewhere with an attic and trees. It sounds amazing and all I read about it was how annoying nature was being to her neighbors one January morning
This book has many golden nuggets that will help you in many situations & mindsets! I personally didn’t read it every day but more binge read it when I made time While keeping a journal. Either way you read it you will not regret it! This book confirmed a lot of things for me & taught me more. There are Christian religious attributes in it; however, it is more spiritual in contacts.
Updated review 9/2020 A year has passed and I've read through Angela's daily meditations for a year. I decided to upgrade it to a 5. I rarely give 5 stars because I am a writer and I read critically, even the books of my friends—fabulous books. I could still give this a 4 and live with that, (the writing is good,) but I'm upgrading it to a 5 because it meant so much to me. It was a gift, like the title, to read it and incorporate it into my morning contemplative practices. It was amazing how much of the time, the day's reading was just what I needed that very moment. I ended up highlighting many portions and sharing them to Facebook via Kindle quotes. There was so much quote worthy in this treasure of a book.
Angela is very transparent in this book and that vulnerability and authenticity, especially casually knowing her, helped increase its meaning and value. I still feel the same about the god language but having read through a year, I don't dock it for that as much as it's not incredibly prevalent throughout the book.
This book has blessed me this year of great transition and growth. Thank you, Angela, for the gift of your writing, insights, your growth and this book. Brava!!
Original review Nov. 2019 Confession. I purchased at least a dozen copies of this book a year ago to give as holiday gifts to family and employees. I met the author at an artist's gathering. She caught my attention when she said her book was about mindfulness. She had a calm demeanor about her, and I intuited she was authentic and this book would be a useful gift. But, I didn't begin reading it until a year later. I like to read something when I awaken and I already had a couple of morning meditation books in the line up. A year rolls around and I'm a little ho-hum the first week of reading. Cute, pleasant nature metaphors. I was a tad turned off by the sprinkling of "God" language. But, I decided to download on Kindle for inspirational morning reading in lieu of toxic Facebook, and got a different sense as I read the intro and the lovely mediation on the tree that served as Angela's catalyst for this book. Then my eye caught a title in September as I was swiping to the current date. What I found was a handful of meditations that were spot on, what I needed to read today, topic after topic of spiritual depth and spiritual clearing. I'm impressed and happy to have finally put this as my first up morning reading and pleased I took a risk to give, unread, to so many others. I look forward to "finding the gift" of inspiration and uplift in the morning pages to come. Too, it feels good to read how another person intuits wisdom in nature surroundings. I recommend this book!
I want to thank you again for choosing me as a winner of your book. It is actually amazing I received this message shortly after my grandmother messaged me thanking me for gifting the book to her. I chose to give her this book because my grandpa passed away in Christmas Eve and I felt this would be a nice inspiration to her. She has always put everyone else before herself. She knows the importance of understanding what others are going through to know she is not the only one who has suffering. She messaged me this morning to tell me how useful your book is for her. I will gain more insight from her as she continues reading and I will also let her know your comments about the entries you mentioned. I will eagerly await the day she finishes it so I can read it myself!
