دنیای داستانی بهاء طاهر بازتاب تجربه‌های پر افت و خیز زندگی اوست. این نویسندهٔ مصری فراخور موقعیت گوناگونی که در عمر تا اکنون هشتاد و یک ساله‌‌اش در آنها قرار گرفته است، از منظر‌های متفاوت به جهان نگریسته و با نوشتن -که به گفتهٔ خودش، در جوانی می‌پنداشته جهان را تغییر می‌دهد- ما را نیز در این منظرها می‌نشاند.

زمستان ترس سومین کتابی است که از بهاء طاهر به زبان فارسی منتشر می‌شود. رمان‌های واحهٔ غروب و عشق در تبعید پیشتر به همین قلم ترجمه و منتشر شده اند. آن دو رمان‌های مستقلی بودند اما این مجموعه به نوعی گزیده‌‌ای از آثار اوست که در دوره‌های مختلف کاری‌‌اش نوشته شده اند.

نگاهی به تاریخ انتشار داستان‌های این مجموعه هدف مرا از این گزینش و ترجمه روشن می‌کند. به گمانم اکنون خوانندهٔ فارسی زبان به نمونه‌های گوناگونی از کارهای طاهر دسترسی دارد و می‌تواند سیر تکاملی‌‌اش را از دیدگاه‌های مختلف پیگیری کند و دربارهٔ افت و خیزهایش بیندیشد.

See also بهاء طاهر Shortly after graduating from the University of Cairo, he started work in Radio 2, the culture channel of the Egyptian Radio. In 1964, he published his first short story. Bahaa was active in the left-wing and avant-garde literary circles of the 1960s and was one of the writers of the Gallery 68 movement. A storyteller and social commentator Taher lost his job in radio broadcasting and was prevented from publishing in the mid 1970s in Sadat's Egypt. In 1981 he chose to leave for Geneva to work as a translator for the United Nations. After many years of exile in Switzerland, he has returned recently to Egypt and is very active in all cultural circles. He has received much recognition in the last five years. Apart from the translation into English of two of his novels, his collected works were published in Cairo by Dar al Hilal in 1992, and a film was made about him as a leading member of the 60s generation by Jamil 'At iyyat lbrahim in 1995. Quickly becoming one of the most widely read contemporary novelists in the Arab world, Taher has received in 1998 the State's Award of Merit in Literature, the highest honour the Egyptian establishment can confer on a writer. In 2000 he was awarded the prestigious Italian Guiseppe Acerbi prize for his widely acclaimed novel Khalti Safiya wal Dier (My Aunt Safiya and the Monastery) , and He was awarded the inaugural International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2008 for his novel Sunset Oasis . این کتاب به نوعی گزیده‌ای از کارهای بهاء طاهر است و داستان‌های آن از نظر تاریخی در دوره‌های مختلف کاری این نویسنده نوشته شده و در مصر منتشر شده‌اند.

این مجموعه شامل یک رمان و چهار داستان کوتاه است. رمان کوتاه «خاله صفیه و دیر». چهار داستان کوتاه این مجموعه هر کدام از یکی از مجموعه‌های این نویسنده انتخاب شده‌اند. «خواستگاری» «دیشب خوابت را دیدم» «زمستان ترس» «ساکن قصر» داستان های کوتاه کتاب هستند.
کتاب خوبی بود. بخصوص برای من که همیشه کشور مصر و تاریخ و فرهنگ اون برام جذاب بوده.
داستان خاله صفیه و دیر رو بیشتر پسندیدم و به همین علت بهش 4 دادم.داستانهای کوتاهش تقریبا معمولی بوند.
دیشب خوابت رو دیدم" رو دوست داشتم چون نگاهش به مشکلات مهاجران بود".

مثل اکثر کتاب‌داستان‌های عربی تصویر روشن و دردناکی از فقر و خفقان و دیکتاتوری ارائه می‌داد. این کتاب چهار داستان کوتاه و یک داستان بلند داشت. داستان بلندی که انتهای کتاب اومده بود (خاله صفیه‌ام و دیر) فوق العاده بود. اصلا به خاطر همین داستان یک ستاره دیگه اضافه کردم و شد چهار ستاره. این اولین کتابی بود که از بها طاهر خوندم شاید وقت دیگری یکی دیگه از رمانهاشو مطالعه کنم.
