Điều đầu tiên ấn tượng với mình là độ dày của quyển manga này, má ơi gần 300 trang + chất giấy dày nên nhìn dày hơn mấy quyển manga khác.
Lần đầu nhìn cái bìa mình nghĩ nội dung xoay quanh "mối quan hệ ba người" - và đúng thiệt nhưng là "tình bạn". Happy Birthday xoay quanh ba người bạn: Sakuto, Kousuke và Yuutarou. Họ quen biết nhau từ khi học đại học, kể cả sau khi ra trường và đi làm, cả ba vẫn thân thiết với nhau.
Điều mới mẻ với mình nằm ở cách "tình bạn" của ba nhân vật được thể hiện. Một tình bạn đẹp và đáng ngưỡng mộ, dù thân nhau là thế, nhưng mỗi người vẫn có cho mình một "bí mật" của riêng họ. Mỗi nhân vật đều có một "chuyện tình" xuyên suốt diễn biến, mình thích cách tác giả đưa hai người bạn còn lại giúp đỡ trong mối quan hệ của người kia.
Dù Happy Birthday đã thể hiện một câu chuyện khá sâu sắc về tình bạn, nhưng mình cảm thấy chưa thực sự thỏa mãn hết. Cách phân chia câu chuyện của mỗi nhân vật không đều, mình chỉ thích nhất phần của Kousuke.
Mình cảm thấy rõ ràng nội dung vẫn có thể phát triển, nhưng tác giả chọn kết thúc nhanh chóng. Rất xin lỗi, nhưng nét vẽ của tác giả "không đẹp" lắm với mình, thậm chí phải đọc qua kha khá mình mới nhận ra đâu là nhân vật nào...

A very healthy and tender all-ages manga from ymz sensei, revolving around three boys, their friendship, relationship, work and life. It was not officially published in Chinese for many years so I read the unofficial scanlation online and bought the Taiwan ver when it finally released in 2025, eight years later than the Japanese original published in 2017!
The three boys met when they were in university and maintained their friendship through to working life, although they have different professions, sexualities, and personalities. Their friendship is more precious than their love lives, although it’s not all smooth sailing, their bond grows stronger through arguments.
The manga started with them chatting about 悠太郎’s gf birthday coming up, and ended with them chatting about 朔人’s manager 永瀬 士朗’s birthday coming up. Showing the boys growing up together, sharing their lives with changing surroundings.
Three main characters and their potential boyfriends, order on the front cover from left to right:
First pair:
Uke 朔人 (black hair), a bisexual office worker and seme 永瀬 士朗, his direct line manager at work. The uke got dumped by his gf but feels content about life with good manager and good friends. He has been spending Friday nights with his manager, eating and drinking after work, and slowing developing feeling for the handsome and mature seme.
The seme is gay and has crush on the uke but already decided to maintain their relationship professional because he doesn’t want to drag the innocent uke into the complicated world and cause him unnecessary trouble. The seme knows 慎 恒助 from gay bar for some years and they are friends.
Second pair:
Uke 慎 恒助 (blonde hair), a gay izakaya manager and seme 基輝, a 18 year old high school student planning to study art in university. The uke has daddy issues growing up in a single-parent family so he’s only ever been with older men, whether they are single or married. 悠太郎 saw 慎 恒助 getting out of some rich man’s car and didn’t like how he laughed it off without opening up and sharing his issues with friend.
The seme got saved by the uke on a hot summer day when he had heat stroke, he’s been following the uke ever since with 500% determination and persistence, unbeatable courage due to youth! Can this naive young boy break down the experienced player’s defense with the help of the two other friends?
Third pair:
悠太郎 (brown hair), a bisexual (?) store staff and 和宽, his health room teacher from high school. The boy had difficulty fitting into the small groups back in high school and would spend a lot of time in the health room, the teacher taught him that running away won’t solve issues and he should be hopeful about future.
The boy met the other two boys in university working on a small group assignment together and found his sense of belonging. This pair has open ending but the boy just broke up with his gf and the teacher thinks it’s a sign that they meet again…
The teacher only had a few pages in the main story, he reappeared in the bonus chapter, the managa’s inside cover and the extra paper released in Japan, along with the other two seme…

Su sencillo trazo casa con una historia de tomo único que me ha dejado una impronta maravillosa, tres amigos dispares en gustos y vidas que emergen en un sin fin de emociones que apetece disfrutar leyendo desde su misma portada.Sin analizar en profundidad por no hacer spoiler, tengo que deciros que es una lectura donde los sentimientos afloran lentamente, así como sin distinciones en género, aumenta la percepción de una educación apta para todas las edades. La libertad de expresión de cada personaje marca una tendencia que debería ser tenida en cuenta desde el nacimiento, lo que me hace ser consciente de unos diálogos que ennoblecen la sensibilidad de una pluma delicada con unas bellas ilustraciones. Confieso que me he quedado con ganas de leer más de estos tres amigos, su buena vibra, sus citas para enmarcar, e incluso, la energía positiva que enseña y que es una forma de vida maravillosa, es totalmente un manga apasionante.

Personally I feel this was the manga that I liked the less of this week, not because the story, it was pretty and sweet. I don't like the desicion of the author: Choosing to focus in three couples instead of only one in a one shot manga and in less 300 pages can be negative 'cause at the end you don't remember them very well. Nobody is special because they were in only a few pages.

Je pense être totalement passé à côté du manga. Pourtant, il avait matière à me plaire avec une histoire tranche de vie entre un groupe d'amis, des bons sentiments et des héros tiraillés par leur vie et qui découvre l'amour.
Malheureusement, toutes les relations croisées ne mènent nulle part, ou pas dans le sens que j'espérais. J'ai été vite lassé par leurs lamentations permanentes.
J'avoue aussi que le dessin m'a particulièrement plu et aussi un peu perturbé. Dans le sens, où les personnages ont tous la même tête, à une différence près de la coiffure ou des lunettes. Cela m'a vite perdu dans les protagonistes, vu le mélange de point de vue récurrents.
Bref, c'est mignon dans l'ensemble et on peut passer un bon moment dessus. Pour ma part, je n'ai pas spécialement accroché au livre.

A cute story of three friends and their relationships with each other and with potential boyfriends. The translation by Yuzu Scanlations is a little rough in the beginning, and the mangaka has included some weird cutscenes between chapters that are not necessarily easy to follow.

Câu chuyện khá thú vị và mới mẻ, tập trung nhiều vào tình bạn của 3 nhân vật chính hơn nên không bị rập khuôn và sến súa. Tuy ngắn nhưng có chiều sâu mà không bị drama quá mức. Kết thúc viên mãn nhưng giá dài thêm tí nữa thì thích hơn. 4 sao.

Me encantó la cotidianidad del manga, las vivencias de un grupo de amigos con orientaciones sexuales muy diferentes los unos con los otros. No es la gran historia pero mantengo las ganas de releerlo más adelante.

Happy Birthday c'est les histoires d'amour de trois garçons mais surtout c'est le récit d'une amitié qui traverse les années et surmonte les obstacles. Ces tranches de vie que nous découvrons font chaud au cœur et le coup de crayon de YMZ donne une touche de douceur et de poésie au tout.

Es una historia muy bonita. Como entrelazan las vidas de tres personas , que se conocieron en el instituto y son buenos amigos.
A pesar de su personalidad o su sexualidad, lo tres tienen algo en común y es , en los malos momentos que se unen mas.
Ha sido una experiencia maravillosa pues he leido muchos comics a lo largo de mi vida pero nunca había leido manga.En el manga las viñetas y páginas se leen de derecha a izquierda, la mayoría de los mangas originales que se traducen a otros idiomas han respetado este orden. Me ha costado acostumbrarme a leerlo, pero cuando ya le coges el tranquillo, no puedes parar.
Las viñetas estan en blanco y negro, con todo tipo de detalles y expresiones. Así, podemos leer y ver con las viñetas, lo que les sucede.
Conocia otros mangas, pero no leyendo, sino viendolos por la tele, como Sakura, Mazinger Z, La bola de Drac, Dr, Slump, entre otros.
Excelente , un dibujo a veces vale más que mil palabras

Un manga sobre tres amics que es coneixen des de la universitat, les seves vides amoroses i com gestionen els seus sentiments. Un és gai, propietari d'un bar i té un pretendent artista de 18 anys; un altre és bi, treballa en una oficina i té un crush amb el seu supervisor (i resulta que és recíproc, però aii l'homofòbia interioritzada) i l'últim és hetero i ha tingut sempre problemes per encaixar per això valora tant els seus amics. Crec que amb el ventall de personatges i les mogudes de la trama podia donar molt més de si, m'ha deixat molt freda amb la resolució de totes les parelles sense ni un trist petó... :/
