The author offered this story and asked for a review, so here it goes! :)

Seth Alwen is a cop, a seer, and suffers from PTSD since witnessing his partner Heather Brady shot to death in an alley during an investigation.
The guilt is eating at him, because as a seer he saw her death but was helpless to do anything about it.
He is assigned a new partner Connor Sharp, a huge mountain of a man.
Connor has his own pile of issues, trust being a big one for him after being betrayed by those closest to him.
As the attraction between them sizzles, the murders of people in the 'Shadows' are increasing as well as other unexplained occurrences with them.
Sharp and Alwen work together to try and figure out who is killing healers, mages and shifters and why, all the while working on their own issues with each other.
We get both POV's each one in alternating chapters.
I read it in one sitting and it held my attention and interest all the way through. There is a definite HFN ending but..my only real complaint is that it's the first in a trilogy and left many unanswered questions and I have no patience and want to know NOW! :)
Seth has visions, will they come to pass, is he going to tell Connor? Who is the hooded baddie? Why is he doing it?
Is there a resolution to Connor's family's betrayal? What's up with Seth's family?

ETA and maybe I should mention that Connor isn't a plain ol' human either?

I thought this was a decent introduction to the series. Set in a world where shifters and magic practitioners alike hide who they are, two cops are paired together, each not knowing the other's "secret".

A series of unexplained events force Seth (a seer) and Conner (a werewolf) to reveal their true nature in order to find out what mysterious entity is causing other supernaturals to lose control of their powers. Unfortunately Seth and Conner are not immune themselves. Such close proximity and dangerous situations ignite the underlying attraction these two have for each other, where neither can stay away despite personal reservations.

This story ends with the mystery still unsolved but with these two forming a tenuous truce about their romantic relationship. Like I said, this was a decent intro to a new paranormal series. Nothing new in shifter lore is introduced but it had some nice "mate" issues and adequate steam. It also doesn't hurt that this was a freebie.

I was given this book to read by the author through the M/M Romance group, thank you.

Connor Sharp is a rogue wolf shifter and has been on the run from his past for the last six years, a past where his pack attacked him and left him to die. He’s now scared physically and emotionally and finds it impossible to trust anyone until he meets Seth Alwen, the partner at his new job as a detective in Haven City.

Seth Alwen has problems of his own. He’s a seer and was unable to stop his previous partner’s murder. His guilt and the PTSD over not preventing Heather Brady’s death are affecting his abilities to ‘see’ the future. Now he is also very much attracted to his new partner and feels guilty for moving on with his life. Both Connor and Seth try to track down the people responsible for the various murders among the shifters, healers and other magic users, also known as ‘shadow people,’ while trying to overcome their own personal issues and the growing attraction they have for one another.

Present tense can be very love/hate, if done well it's invisible but when done badly it comes off as awkward. Here it was very awkward, add in first person and descriptions become odd. On top of that there are quite a few editing issues 'Jutebox' is possibly a cultural differential of Jukebox, but the man ate stake and his steak was good!

S (Seth) + C (Conner) = grrrr (Me)
S is supernatural, he knows C is supernatural but can't talk about it because - secret
C is supernatural, he suspects S is supernatural but can't confirm this because - secret
Let the dancing commence!
It all equals rising reader frustration, at least in this reader.

I was not convinced about the wonderful aroma of blood and what is the problem with beards? Dreams of a handsome man (aka minus the beard) hiding himself behind the 'thing'?
What's the opposite of a pognophile - is beardist a thing? Cause I got to tell you right now they're kind of a current fashion.

I didn't get that far but it irritated me, can't see me returning to finish this one. (fortunately it was a kidle-freebie - so that's good)

This was a surprisingly good read. I got it for free and only glanced at the blurb, but it sounded okay so I said I'd give it a go. But this was a lot more than okay. It was sort of sweet, hot and I really liked both MC's.

Considering this is the first book in the series, I'm really happy with how this one ended. For a while I worried it would have a cliffhanger or wouldn't have a happy ending. But the ending was actually perfect considering where the couple are now. It left me wanting more without it feeling incomplete.

I hope more of Conner's past is explored in the next book. It'd be nice to see his family come back into it, even if it's just for him to get closure.

I loved the dual first person present tense POV's. It added to my enjoyment and I liked getting inside both guys heads.

I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

Ok, but not exactly thrilling. The writing was a bit clumsy at times and the both MCs were very stereotypical.
They didn't feel like real people - and being a clairvoyant and a werewolf was the least of the problems.

It was a book that mostly left me bored and detached.

Have to take a break from this one. The way both MCs keep telling themselves they don't trust each other, in their heads, is not making me cheer for them to have a romance. The mystery seems like it will be good, but I have to want the guys together if I am to enjoy this book.

For the most part I did enjoy this story, the whole shadow world concept was interesting. I realize that this is the first book in the series and there was setting up with the world and the players involved, but there was just too much going on and it was little too much. I was a little disappointed because it seemed like the last part of the book was just rushed and then it ended. I realize this is so the reader will continue with the 2nd book, but I prefer a book to end and not to be left hanging.

I liked it. I took a chance on this book. This is the first I've read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Seth and Conner were robust characters and there was an interesting back story. Seth's visions came at the most (to me) inopportune times but it was part of this book's charm. I loved Connor (sexy wolfie, rowr). As others have mentioned, this is the first in a series so it ended with an HFN but I felt satisfied.

Bottom line: moving on to book 2!

I'm not a huge shifter fan, but this series came up in connection with another author I like, so I thought I'd give it a try. This first book was good enough (plot and character wise) that I continued with the next one.

I liked both Seth and Conner, though their refusal to really communicate (especially on Seth's part) drove me insane. I really hate that device, and it was overused here, imo. Still, I enjoyed their relationship (though I have to admit, the sex scenes made me laugh out loud because of the author's word choices), and the mystery was enough to keep me going to the next one.

As I've mentioned with the other books in this series, the writing has some flaws, so be prepared to set aside your internal editor.

This was a good story and I am really looking forward to the next book.

Connor and Seth are interesting characters - although Seth was a bit difficult for me because of his "Lying"
I would love to read more books like that but it is difficult to find good paranormal suspense lgbt-books.

so all in all a real good read and I can't wait to read the next one

Note: I was given a copy of this book by the author and agreed to do a review.

Overall, I really liked this story and it's apparently the beginning of a series so the story ends on a HFN. Conner Sharp, marked as a rogue werewolf by his former pack, is now a lone wolf in hiding from them in fear of his life. He's spent six years moving around and finally settles in Haven, utilizing his profession as police detective. He's assigned as partner to Seth Alwin, a cop who's recently lost his partner due to her murder, and he's carrying a load of guilt about that. He's a seer and he feels guilty because he believes he could have somehow prevented her murder if he hadn't downplayed his visions. They don't always come true, since a seer can see several future paths and the actual outcome depends on multiple factors and decisions made by others. But he nevertheless carries the burden, is not eating or sleeping well, and sees a therapist for his PTSD.

Sparks fly when they meet, literally. As soon as Seth touches Conner's hand, he is transported into a hazy vision where he sees his dream man, tall dark, muscular and with three scars on his face. Since it's cloudy and hazy he can't clearly focus on the face, other than to see the scars. But he feels strongly that this dream man may be his future. (He doesn't connect the vision to Conner since Conner wears a beard and no one can see the scars beneath.) Once Seth comes back to himself, he makes an excuse for zoning out and then shows Conner around the office and offers to take him to lunch. But, they are quickly assigned a murder investigation and take off to the scene. There, when he touches the corpse, he lapses into a trance state again as he sees some of what the victim encountered before she died. Conner, meanwhile, wonders why his partner is phasing out and worries about having a partner with mental health issues.

Neither wants to tell the other about their "other world" status but the issue is forced when Conner suddenly gets a piercing headache and visualizes a burning symbol as he body begins to force the change to werewolf against his will. This has never happened before, and it's happening in front of Seth. Turns out to be a good thing as it opens the door for them to communicate and find that each is other-worldly. That symbol that Conner sees, and that Seth has seen in a vision but kept it to himself, is a key in their investigation. Once Conner is back to himself, they begin to work more closely together as police partners and they begin to act on their sexual attraction. For further details, you'll have to read the story!

I like the way the author made this a romance, yet allowed it to also be a mystery/suspense story. Neither has the primary focus, yet each is very clearly intended. The sex scenes are erotic, the mystery is well described and the outcome, though not shocking, comes to an explosive ending while allowing for sequels to the story. Another positive is that the author used first person voice with both Seth's and Conner's POV alternating. She clearly labeled each POV, a point I appreciate, since some authors do a lot of switching and it can become confusing when there's no clear line.

I hovered between 3 and 4 stars for this story for only minor reasons. There are some typos and grammatical errors in the story and, though minor, these things pull me out of the moment. My number one pet peeve is that the author uses the word "member" to describe Seth's penis too many times. It's personal, but I hate that term. In these scenes, the word cock would have been perfectly appropriate. However, I gave the story 4 stars because of the world-building. It was a refreshing look at the shifter theme and having a location where many persons who had a magic presence were able to live together was a nice twist. Some of the secondary characters were healers, and there were other shifters, mages, hunters, witches and warlocks in the city, giving plenty of choices for future books in this world. In addition, the MC's characters were very well done, the setting very well described and the story very detailed. I recommend this story to all who like a well done shifter or mage/seer story.

This author has several volumes to her name but either this is a very early effort or she still does not master her craft.

This M/M urban fantasy novella is the first instalment in a series of which only the first two volumes seem to cast these two leads.
The story is interesting and writing not too bad but there are many things that simply do not work.

Plot is essentially based on the characters' inability to communicate: Seth looks more juvenile than guilt-ridden and his habit of never telling the truth is first of all annoying and second hardly justified. The plot itself could have used more development -and therefore more pages- and a better pacing, especially in the coming together of the leads who we are told are attracted to each other while the reader can never really feel all that heat.
Writing is also faulty:
- the author uses a first person narration, the POV shifting between the leads. Problem is she does not know how to describe people and situation that way, so we are facing characters who say about themselves: "My pink nipple was pert and hard." which is hilarious.
- her writing also fails to wake much emotion so that even the long and explicit sex-scenes feel a bit dull.

A thorough revision might be needed.

I was astonished to see I've read this book before, as I couldn't remember it AT ALL. My previous rating was 3 stars, but I've regraded it to two stars.

Connor Sharp is a cop and a rogue wolf, for reasons that was never fully explained. He came to Haven City to make a new start, and met Seth Alwen, his partner on the force, and a seer. They form part of Haven City's shadow people - magic users and shifters that live a secret life among "normal" people.

Seth lost his previous partner to a murder - he saw her murder in a vision, but not enough detail to really prevent it. He was cut up about the murder, and keep blaming himself for it, although it was apparent he couldn't really prevent it. So reading page after page of unnecessary self-blame got tedious.

Sharp on the other hand, is a typical passionate shifter with a short temper. This is one of my pet hates, and he really annoyed me on several occasions. I also did not really feel any chemistry between them.

That being said - this is the first book in the series, and the story is not yet finished. I will read the second book to complete the story, and will decide from there if I want to continue.

Eh. Ok, but not great. I have nothing particularly good or bad to say about this book. It was just ok. Conner and Seth are fine characters. I liked them ok. The sex was ok. The world was simplistic, but ok. The mystery was ok. It was basically something to hang the romance on and I didn't think it ended particularly satisfactorily. We were given a pretty pat 'and then this happened' wrap up as an ending that left more unexplained and open for the sequel than it explained. But it did conclude.

The writing was also ok. Nothing about it was particularly good, but other than a couple really annoying things (like hips that buckle instead of buck, even when a person is laying supine) and some repetition, nothing about it was bad either. It was all ok. (Could have done with a tad more editing, though.)

This is one of those books you read and forget because it all just feels so insubstantial and flatl. But if I found the sequel as a freebie I'd give it a read.

I am not sure where to begin with my insights on this book. I like the story and the interaction between Conner and Seth. I wish there was more chemistry between Seth and Conner. I think this book could use something extra to make it sizzle.

Was this a novel escape? Meh...(6.5 out of 10)
Would I check out other books by the author? Maybe(5 out of 10)
Would I buy part two in the series? Maybe(4 out of 10)

This could have been a decent book, but this was published back in 2013 and it shows. Especially when one of the first things Seth observes about Connor is that he looks “half-g*psy”. You know, this is a self-published book on KU, so you know 2013 isn’t really an excuse to NOT take that out (as well as all the other references to Seth and his almond shaped eyes).

This writing isn’t great? I’m prone to using a lot of exclamation points whenever I tweet or whatever, but it drives me up the wall when they’re used in books for first-person POVs. It’s really annoying and this book uses them a lot.

I don’t really get a sense of WHO Seth and Connor are. Yes, Seth is a seer who lost his detective partner and Connor is a wolf shifter. But everything feels very removed and the feelings only at surface level and I’m just not loving this book.

DNF at 28%.

I enjoyed the opportunity to read my first book by this author. The world-building was intriguing, and the complexities of the characters’ motivations kept me pushing forward to find out what would come next. Occasionally the lack of communication between Seth and Conner was frustrating, and it sometimes jarred me out of the story’s flow. The mystery and murders were not my typical read, but Ms. Perdita did a good job of sustaining interest. I appreciated how easy it was to keep track of whose viewpoint was being told. This is a story that fans of shifters, paranormal creatures, and mysteries will find appealing.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. (Thank you!)

This was a fairly quick, easy read but not exactly what I was expecting. I liked both MCs and thought the chemistry between them was good but the overall story was hit and miss for me. I honestly expected more with the cases they were working and instead they were more background noise to the characters and their various issues. Not that it wasn't good but I really wanted more since both Connor and Seth are detectives. Things were wrapped up fairly easily overall though While it could come up in a later book, it left the book a little lacking for me. I'll eventually read more if the series but it isn't one I'm dying to continue right now. 3.5 stars.

Awesome Story

This story has a bit of everything in it. Cops, crooks, murder, mayhem, sizzling sex, shifters, seers, magical healers, secrets, lies, it was breathtakingly wonderful. It all flowed together so effortlessly, and it was just so believable. The pace and the action was just enough to keep me on edge until the very end, and then it's over. But it's not, because there is a #2. And I need to start that one right now.

Just Wow. I can't believe how much I just LOVED this book.

What a great start to a new series. The mystery and the overall sexual tension between these two was just gripping!
I loved how Seth and Conner mesh. I felt it was wonderfully written! I am extremely excited and looking forward to the second book!!

I was kind of hoping for more :( I liked Conner and Seth, but when it ended it still felt like a HFN. The 2nd book is about the same couple but I'm not sure I want to move onto it right away.

There are still so many questions though, since the cliffhanger left things unfinished. I hate that.

I also hated how Seth never really shared his visions :(

I think this a good start to a new series. I'm really interested in Seth's seer talent and enjoy the relationship between the scarred heroes. I would almost call this a cliffhanger in the sense that they only actually solve part of their case. Hopefully the case will continue and we will delve more into the shadow world of Haven.

This was a good start to a cool mystery series! I experienced this one in audio and the narrator's performance was pretty good but his voice for Conner was so bad it was funny! Aside from that the story was solid. Seth is a seer who is having trouble with his visions. He gets paired with a wolf shifter with a dark past. A little predictable but I'm interested to know more about the hooded figure.
