Uh. That was awkward.
I gotta blame this one on the Rupi fever.
People think they can just artfully arange words on a page and call it poetry - in this case, without the goods to back it up.

I don't even think this guy's wife likes this book - and it is abour her manic-pixie-dream-girl self!

I quote:

you
me
you always did look so good
on top

NOPE.

woman, you make me feel
so goddamn lucky

That's not poetry.

"If you remember to be grateful for the good in your life, no one can truly hurt you."

I highlighted 3 sentences in this book. I found the phrases and poems too short for my liking. It is as if the author hands over the words to his readers without a pinch of mystery. I felt like I was being spoon-fed the entire time that I was reading. I had no time to digest the poems and no time to actually reflect and think about his words. Still, I don't consider the time that I spent reading this wasted. I still enjoyed the book but I just wish that there is more to it than the obvious.

this was more a love declaration than poetry but if someone loved me this way i’d probably feel better about it

Let's chat for a sec: I don't know about most people, but I cannot read books like this and pretend platitudes are what constitute as poetry. Is it because I do write my own poetry? Maybe. Is it also because I understand what poetry is suppose to be? Definitely, and it's not this. Please keep books like this far away from me in the near future, thanks

This was cute, I must say all the love and good things that were talked about weren’t for me or the right moment, but all I kept thinking was “wow...imagine someone loving you this much”.

This whole thing was so sweet🥲💛 here are some of my fav lines after my first read-through:

“i caught feelings for you before i truly knew what those feelings meant”

“i want to tell you all the small details of my day and listen as you tell me about yours”

“perhaps i care too much and that has caused me a tremendous amount of pain during my life
but in you i found someone who saw how much i cared and appreciated it and even returned it tenfold
and so i consider the pain more than worth it.”

“i don’t care if i get to have all the things i always dreamed of having
all i really care about is having you.”

“i almost wish i had a narrator of my life who would expose my inner thoughts and feelings and make them known
perhaps then you would known there is not a shred of untruth when i tell you
i love you”

“if you loved me forever everything would be okay”

I believed love exist long time ago. But somehow along the way, it got lost. Funnily i didn't bothered to try and find it back again..

Lovely

This is such a lovely, romantic, honest, and beautiful collection of poetry. I enjoyed every page. Will definitely keep a look out for more from this poet :)

Some pieces were nice. But the style really didn't vibe with me.

Just too romantic and has less substance. I don't get why the book is divided into four parts when the theme and the poetry in them are the same...

There were a few good poems, but like other people have said, a little too short and some of the topics were just a little too basic. It needs to go deeper, explain the feelings more eloquently rather than straight up simple declarations of love. The reason I picked this book up was my favourite colour is yellow too! <3

Here are some poems that I loved:

"i long to be broken by you
in ways no one else has

i would adore the scars you gave me
knowing it meanth
i got to be touched
by you"

__ ** __

"broken dreams
broken bottles
falling back in love
with memories of you"

__ ** __

" do you feel that?

the crackling energy
in the space
between our fingertips

as if the universe
is begging

for us to touch"

__ ** __

"you
me

you always did look so good
on top"

"is it really such a bad thing
that two broken people
should find each other
in the dark of night
and make their own light
together?"

I found this book after seeing it all over goodreads. So many readers were praising it and I thought this must be the poetry book for me. Sadly, It wasn’t. I found a few poems that I liked but I felt like it was a bit too short for my liking. The poems were sweet but not enough to make me love it. I’d definitely still try Edgar Holmes poetry. This one might not have been the right one for me.

so this is what it feels like
to finally meet someone
who exists
on the same frequency
as you do

[ 1/5 ☆ ]

Bastante flojo. Supongo que tienes que ser su mujer para que las palabras que hay aquí
mal
ordenadas
creyendo que es
poesía
lleguen a ti.

If you're going to write about love, then I say write about it with the fervency that Edgar Holmes talks about his love. The same passion and possibly a similar vocabulary because I really enjoyed the writing in this collection. Although I do admit some of the poems are more like phrases. Holmes tried. I'm always willing to give something a chance because there is always room for growth.

This was so boring, I didn't even want to finish the book. I was tired of it and this was definitely not a poetry book. I barely liked any of the "quotes" that I read. Maybe it was because it was his debut book but other poetry writers have great debut books so I don't know.

It was beautiful, but.. wouldn't exactly call it poetry. More like little love confessions and random facts about life.

, and may you be lucky enough to find a love like i
have.

The collection had a hell bent motive to prove how much one's life can be/should be centred around another's validation? which isn't an idea I highly stand by..and that was there all to it..the cliched "Before you I was a dust ..and now I'm a mountain because you stepped on me" just puts me tf off.
So..ah... that didn't go too well for me.

Trash.

Complete trash.

Plagiarized trash.

I am appalled that the great E.E. Cummings did not receive proper credit for Edgar Holmes “poem” (if you want to call it that) on page 72: “You are my sun, moon, and stars”—literally word for word from “You are my sun, my moon, and all my stars” by E.E. Cummings.

There’s 20 minutes I’ll never get back. I don’t think there is a single original thought in this whole book.
This is the meanest review I’ve ever written, but I wouldn’t waste my time again.

This is a book about the love between a couple.

I honestly clicked this book cos I just lost my best friend who’s favourite colour was yellow. And the bond I had with her was a love I looked for in a partner. And there were so many lines that just described my love for her perfectly and this book was just so beautifully written

Meh.

This poet is also fond of the random spacing technique like Rupi Kaur, which is quickly becoming a pet peeve of mine when it comes to poetry. Instead of just trying to format something into prettiness and hoping that it will come across as ~deep, why not, oh I don't know, actually write something that IS deep?

The author is obsessively in love with his wife or muse or girlfriend or whoever she is - uncomfortably so, at least for me. We are told in numerous strings of words that he'll die without her, that his life has no meaning without her in it, etc, etc. Maybe that's okay for younger people who haven't, you know, lived and loved and lost and loved again and lost again and realize that life does, indeed, go on, even if you don't want it to at some points. For me, I was left thinking that I probably would have enjoyed this maybe fifteen years ago, but now it doesn't do anything for me.

At least it was free on Kindle Unlimited!

Solid 3 Stars

I’m constantly looking for new (to me) poetry collections. Her Favorite Color Was Yellow was a solid three star collection. It didn’t completely blow me away but it was far from terrible too. This is a collection for the lovers of love poems which I feel like we don’t see much of anymore. I did read this on my phone so the formatting threw me off a bit, and I’m wondering if that’s why. If you’re looking for a quick read with a few poems that pack a decent punch, I definitely recommend.
